I think a hamburger in a bun is a sandwich because there are two pieces of bread around it. One on top and one on bottom.

Hey, check it out.

I was going to agree with Ash, but like the note in the article - is a grilled cheese sandwich not a sandwich?

Also, returning to my non-sandwich lunch, I ended up not having a vegan lunch because I realized I had an open carton of chicken broth, so I made the couscous with that, and also, I had a big glass of chocolate milk afterward.

Tortilla = pita = bread = bun

The key is convenience.  Function.  Sandwiches are meal delivery packets that allow you to eat without utensils or getting your fingers dirty.  Sushi rolls don't qualify, because by design they are eaten with chopsticks.

a grilled cheese is a sandwich. it is a cheese sandwich that has been cooked (though rarely, if ever, actually grilled).

Wraps, rolls and sushi are not sandwiches, but they belong in the same category of convenience food.

No, but the rice serves a similar purpose to bread in sandwiches. Onigiri is essentially the Japanese equivalent of the sandwich.

For real.  Also, you can get those "hand sushis" or some shit.  I have never ordered or seen one, but I have made sushi rolls, and it seems like it is just an uncut sushi roll, so that may be a sandwich.  I wouldn't consider eating sushi without massive soy sauce and wasabi, so for me it could never be a sandwich.  If you are eating those hand rolls without sauce all the time then I think sushi would be a sandwich for you.

No! Tacos are not a sandwich!  A pita is not a sandwich, and sushi is most certainly not a sandwich.  What the fuck are you all thinking?  Walk up to your local Middle Eastern, Mexican or Japanese restaurant and go a head and ask for a sandwich and get the puzzled look you deserve for believing nonsense about food stuffs!

I am throwing down as a sandwich conservative:  Only leavened bread with something between is a sandwich!
