Dolby played a free show here last Tuesday and I wanted to go, mainly because some friends were gonna be there, but I never really liked Thomas Dolby much so I was lame and stayed home.

the best song of the show was the first song of the encore. the last song before the encore was 'blinded me with silence' and it was damned good too, of course.

'blinded me with silence'

Is that a John Cage number?

For those of you not on the Facebooks, here's a thing I put together about the music of my college radio days. There's a Spotify playlist linked, too.

http://www.bigfool.com/foolblog/archive/2012_03.htm#001301

I am sitting here rocking out to the Ned's Atomic Dustbin song with a big dopey grin on my face. Both because of the song and the memories associated with it.

I am really, really mad, because when I tried to download all my old radio shows it came up saying "shows from this date have been Archived."
Where "archived" meant... DELETED FOREVER.

Nazareth, Hollis Brown. Iggy and the Stooges do a version (which is just them dicking around in the studio, I'm reading). But maybe you heard this one.

Anything that inspires that sort of thing is ok in my book.

James Gang.

And yes, that is apparently a Tommy Bolin tribute band. I can't explain it either. Dude sounds a lot like him, though.

Yeah, I'd like to talk to you about booking my band.

Ok.

Uhm, yeah, we're called Teazer, we're a Tommy Bolin tribute band.

Tommy Bolin?  Never heard of him.

Uh yeah, he played in James Gang.

Never heard of them either.

No?  They had lots of hits back in the '70s.  Joe Walsh was in the band.

Oh? (Suddenly interested) So you're gonna be playing Joe Walsh songs?

Uh no, Tommy Bolin wasn't in the band when Joe Walsh was with them.

Huh.

He also played in Deep Purple.

Oh really, so you guys play Smoke on the Water?

Uh no, Tommy Bolin wasn't in the band when they recorded Smoke on the Water.

So did Tommy Bolin have any hits of his own?

Yeah, he had a song called Post Toastie.

I don't remember that one.

Oh yeah, it's a cool song about od'ing on heroin.

uh... ok.  Well leave your info and we'll get back with you.

Yeah, and that Post Toastee song? It's the last song he played . . . before he OD'ed on heroin.

So, timely!

No, yeah, I can show myself out, sure.
