Guess you're going to have to click for bigger, having issues with the resizing.

That was Supreme Munificence Karma Sloth, recently back from a pilgrimage to Tibet.

You know how polar bears cover their nose with a paw, because they have black noses? How does the polar bear know his nose is black (did he see other polar bears with black noses and then assume he also has a black nose? Or see and understand a reflection in water?) and then reason it out that if only he would hide his nose, he would be invisible while he is hunting because the rest of him is white and blends in with the snow around him? That seems like a lot of thinking for a polar bear.

Probably watch a parent or clan mate do it.

It's ok to call polar bears a clan, right?

Well yeah, generation to generation I get it, but who was the innovative thoughtful bear who realized what was up, how did he or she figure it out? I want that bear on my product development team. Get me that bear on the phone. The nose covering bear.

maybe they started noticing that the ones who covered their noses didnt get spotted, and it caught on from there.  there are trendy polar bears, just like there are trendy people.

I hate to burst your bubble, but:

Quote
Contrary to a legend among native hunters, polar bears do not cover their black noses while lying in wait for seals. Canadian biologist Ian Stirling, who has spent several thousand hours watching polar bears hunt, has never seen this behavior. Nor have other scientists.

Ok so my first instinct was right, that IS too much thinking for a polar bear.
