This image is from Wikipedia's "Mammal" page:

I don't know how Nixon and Brezhnev were selected to represent our species, but I'm imagining a teenaged member of a future alien species doing a research report, finding this image with the description of each photo, and drawing all of his conclusions of homo sapiens from research on Watergate and the cold war. Fitting, I suppose.

Order is indeed the dream of man, but chaos, which is only another word for dumb, blind, witless chance, is still the law of nature. - Wallace Stegner

The world needs more cat flash mobs. Just as long as I'm not the one cleaning up.

That was marginally more interesting than listening to people with American accents talk about their cats.

"Violence of the Lambs": One of the best pieces I've read all year: http://www.gq.com/news-politics/big-issues/200802/john-jeremiah-sullivan-violence-lambs-future-human-race

"In America, where animals have perhaps a freer recourse to weapons, at least four people have been shot by their dogs in the past two years."

"The jogger in southeastern North Carolina who witnesses saw get surrounded on the boardwalk by a squadron of oversize male hermit crabs, which approached him, kung fu style, with that one bulging claw forward, and appeared to attempt to drive him off a pier."

But there's so much more.
