That's a really good idea. The standard boring advice is to train a sit for greetings, but that's a much better plan for a dog like that.

What I think is that it's important to remember that nearly all problems that people attribute to dominance in dogs have nothing to do with dominance. The popular notion of dominance in dogs is based on thinking and research that has been pretty much entirely discredited.

So I'd consider more practical and simple possibilities first. Does he just do it on those two items? It is possible that they are both so filthy that he's marking them because they smell interesting? Jackets and backpacks rarely if ever get washed. Does he only do it when they are hung in a certain place? Maybe just stop hanging them there. Those sorts of things.

Well I have no comment on human dominance hierarchies, so... as you were.

As long as we're on the cute animals behaving badly theme, anyone who thinks hummingbirds are cute (and is too cheap to buy my book) should read this.

Rose pug is gone. I am pugless for the first time in 16 years (because she wouldn't stand for me adopting the pug I tried to foster a few months ago). Even the vet said "end of an era."

Thanks. I'm glad you think so. She was always a little in Lilly's shadow I think, so I had to think hard what would do her justice.

I already said this on facebook, but I had to use your weird code name so it felt weird.

Sorry about Rose, Wombat.

The video made both my wife and I sniffle a little.  Our four legged family members are with us such a short time.  I hope your heartache eases soon.

ALSO: I love how the hoss in this video just hangs out while dude gets his lickin'.

Aside from stealing the hoss, what did this guy do? They wouldn't give him a merciless beatdown just for taking a hoss. Would they? Also, was there any disciplinary action against those officers?

(see his tail at the beginning when dude is trying to get away? that hoss doesn't like anything about what that guy is doing with him)

I'm not savvy to the ways of the hoss. What is going on?
