I demand that you all watch Yo Gabba Gabba, even if you don't have small children.

I love DJ Lance.  I had an awesome boss that looked like him, so I'm especially fond of him.

I tried to introduce this show to my friends with age appropriate children, but they all rejected it for whatever reason.  I even got one of my god children a Brobee toy, but no dice.  It drives me nuts that the one palatable thing I've encountered out there isn't catching on amoung my closest kidlets.  Oh well.

The exception I take to kids programming is that, these days, so much of the shows out there are intensly catered to very specific age brackets, without any more complex content that kids would either think on deeply or comprehend later in life.  There's also a lack of content that can allow the overseeing adult to interact and engage on a deeper level.  It is, to use the overused expression, a babysitter, rather than a tool of engagement.

When I think of the TV I most enjoyed at an early age ('70-'80 Sesamie Street and Reading Rainbow) those shows made connections to my world outside the flashing box, and made me want to figure things out.  It never made me want to... you know, go to a toy store and buy something.  In the end, I think Teletubbies and Tickle-Me-Elmo ruined children's TV.  There's such a huge amount of that crap out there now.  Then again, what did this teach me?

It taught you to count to three, and that ice cream and roller coasters are awesome.

My kids have been watching a lot of the Pinball Number Count, which makes me happy on many levels. Not the least of which is that my five year old can hit the high notes.

I'm almost 20 and haven't been able to score a better job than a freaking cook at a local fast food joint. What makes it worse is that I live in a small town so business is pretty limited, and where I work is the only place that'll hire high school graduates. I'd get the hell out of this town if I could actually drive too, but I've failed every damn test I've ever taken. I'm socially awkward, even my only other co-worker *@!!ing hates my guts. I have repressed lust for one of my best friends too; she's athletic, smart and a gorgeous southern bell. I love her. You know what it's like; I've been friend zoned real hard. She's my only real friend, besides this one kid, who I'm pretty sure is only hanging around me because he is mentally challenged. I guess he's the only one that can tolerate me. And what makes this all worse is that I live in a freaking pineapple under the sea.

Interesting:  I loved Sponge Bob when I was a stoner, but now I am indifferent to him, if somewhat annoyed.

Oh my god, I totally remember that. Nothing rules my unconscious like Sesame Street does. I still have dreams about the Teeny Little Super Guy.

speaking of TV and such

this documentary

http://www.cbc.ca/ideas/episodes/2009/11/13/the-brains-of-babes-part-13-cd/

told me that educational software (I guess that could include TV shows) actually makes kids dumber, not smarter.

point being is that kids need dynamic and complex feedback based on their own behavior if they are to learn to develop that behavior into anything.  Whereas, TV shows and educational software generally ain't that complex in their reactions to your kid.  You're kid can smear poop on the keyboard and the software will still say "GOOD JOB!!!" same goes for these fuck!ng so-called interactive toys they make now.

I think the muppets are probably kinda somewhat exempt from this general rule, as that is a medium that really forces the viewer to use his or her imagination, kinda in the same way that a black and white photo can be more beautiful than the same photo in colour... when your brain is required to fill in the blanks in a complex and dynamic way, hey, your brain enjoys that.  But that's damn tricky to do.  I got a high-end digital SLR that can snap pictures so fast it winds up being a jerky video if I feed it all into an animated GIF, but all my pictures still look like shit.  I ain't got no artistic sense.  not when it comes to photography anyway.

here is more reading:

I guess the above article is sort of relevant to the question of 'how to dress'

I don't have kids, but I have more and more friends with kids

I feel sorry for kids these days having to grow up in a TV landscape populated with the likes of Hannah Montanna.  That shit is basically like, the result of too much hard core drugs.  sesame street, back in the day, was cool.  Then one day Oscar the Grouch started cooking meth in his trash can and that show hasn't been the same since.

Isn't there any decent stoner TV for kids to watch anymore these days?  I mean, other than These guys?  ICP means well, but damn, they're a few bricks short of a load.

What I enjoy about fashion these days is the Mad Men effect.  There have been some clear improvements to structured garb for both men folk and women folk since this show took off.  It is in direct contrast to the shitty patterned leggings trend that you see some ladies trotting out.  I hate patterned leggings.  It is like a lady woke up, put on ugly tights, then decided "what the hell, I'm not going to put on a skirt, I'll just cut off the ankles of these tights and wear them as if they are #####."  No one looks good in patterned leggings, especially when there is no top pulled down to cover your fancy, patterned camel toe.  This is something that needs to be made clear to all.
