People are scared.  Fear is the mind destroyer. It makes you think, say and do stupid things.  They want assurance and easy solutions and as always there are plenty of ignorant and/or unethical people around to offer them.

It's sad.  Lots of people think the universe works in an unnecessarily cruel way.  I don't understand it.

You know, I really agree.  Linea posted this quote on her FB, which I'm posting here because it has been the only useful response I've seen about the whole thing:

Thank you August and Smells (and everyone else). I love it when I vent some stupid bullshit that I see on Facebook and you wonderful people find a way to bring me around to seeing a little humanity.

Also, hats off to Little Porkin' for the "get the derp going" description of things. That was pretty dead on.

Good point. The implication that well-adjusted, confident girls who get 8 hours of sleep aren't smart is kind of offensive. You'd never hear something like that about smart boys.
