Yes, I am still working with her, but, the thing is, do you like everyone you work with? Getting a literary agent is at least as hard as getting a new job, at least for the average non-famous person.

You know I don't know anything about such a thing. No, my assumption was that it's like picking your sidekick or henchman.

I assumed it was more like picking your pimp.

That would explain a lot about Wombat's response, then.

It's very bizarre, really. Convincing someone to be your agent is like applying for a job but worse. You have to convince them that you are the greatest thing since sliced bread and will make a ton of money for them. They have to not only fall in love with your book, but also believe that they can make an editor fall in love with it. And they have hundreds of people a week writing to them, trying to do the same thing, so they can afford to be very picky.

And then, yeah, after all this, they are basically supposed to be working for you. The whole business is very warped.

So anyway, I can't just dump her because it annoys me when she is tweeting the Oatmeal and not using her great powers (she is a literary agent, so is followed by a zillion people on Twitter who wish they had an agent) to promote me as well. I also can't dump her because she has already vetoed my second idea for a book because she thinks she can't sell it. Not unless I want to start all over trying to find another agent. I'm not at that point yet.

peanutweeter

"@Peanutweeter matches kinda random Twitter posts with somewhat less than random Peanuts® comic strips by Charles Schulz."

some are gems, others are smirk-worthy and thats about it.

magnified grains of sand

That's really fuck*ng cool, but this:
Quote
If each grain of sand is so beautiful and unique, imagine how beautiful and unique each person is?
Is some kind of false dichotomy or non-sequitur or some other logical fallacy.

Samuel L Jackson has a very specific career.

Morgan Freeman would have been better, but only slightly.
Tom Waits would have been best.

Prostatitis? (probably nsfw)

People have been getting freaky for awhile now, and have been using machines to help them along their way.
