I want to say all things being equal there's no advantage to using a heavier weapon.

apparently the difference is in type of damage-- axes cause bleeding, swords have a higher chance of a critical strike, maces and hammers ignore armor.

But, yeah. Switching to a sword.

I can't think of anything but this game, and my brother took our 360 to school. I'M GOING INSANE.

I don't remember this from Oblivion. I wonder if it was like that.

hm. Now both of my roommates are playing. Jerks! I guess I'll have to get other things done with my time.

watching them play is so frustrating. They just run through the dungeons without picking anything up, or examining anything, or reading anything. There are basic game mechanics that they do not quite get because they skip past all the tooltips. ahhhhhh.

...my character is gonna be so much better than them.

are you guys going Imperial or Stormcloak? I am just so annoyed by the whole "there are no good guys" thing. I thought I was going to do Stormcloak until I found out about how they are really racist against non-nords? That is pretty lame.

Solution: Play twice.

I figure there'll be a chance to betray both sides before the end if they annoy me too bad.

This time around I'm siding stormcloak with a magic-heavy werewolf breton. All taking the high road in a world that rejects him at every turn.
Next time I'm going to side imperial with an evil thief/assassin, not sure if I'll go argonian or khajitt for that.

wtf, not playing a Nord?

I got too excited about the cool Beowulf-style setting to play anything but a Nord. I'm going mostly combat, with a little sneakiness thrown in. And maybe Alteration.

I think I might have burned myself out on Elder Scrolls having played Morrowind so much. I spent a few days finishing Oblivion's main quest and never touched it again, and it seems I can't even be arsed to do that for Skyrim. Can anyone confirm if Bethesda's claim of including more "handmade" dungeons is legit? I might be down for a bit of light dungeon crawling after I finish Dark Souls.

there are, as always, lots of repetitive dungeons that all feel the same.

Then, I explored a bunch, and lately I have found a ton of cool areas. This one particular dungeon (Blackreach... so only a "dungeon" in the video game sense of the word) was really awesome, I kept calling my roommates in to see some new room I had moved into. I also explored an area of the map I had never walked through, and found some cool ruins.

Right now I'm just trying to do all of my "miscellaneous" quests. But I get so sick of repetitive caves and towers and forts.

I would recommend it, overall. Just don't let yourself get bogged down in having to explore every cave, pick up every plant, etc. I was into that until it started feeling too much like work. Nowadays I just remind myself that that cave will still be there 20 levels from now, and keep walking.

Also: I dumped all of my extraneous gear in my house. I was carrying something like 150 lbs of alchemy ingredients.

Electronic games had stopped being a part of my life for a long time until I started translating/localizing them. Working with an army of Mega-Nerds I eventually caved in. First I finished Deus Ex: HR, now I got Skyrim. So I'm still in the beginning (Lvl 22, sucking hard at everything as is the case). I'm a Khajit thief who's a high-functioning sociopath (he won't do anything that might get him into trouble but behind closed doors shit gets rough*). I too had my little obsessive phase, but now I've cooled off a little.

I kinda resent this game being so big 'cos I know I'll never muster enough interest to start over with another character and I feel like I'm missing on the old Nord action.

Also, theinevitable, re: armors, they suit different playstyles. So if you're a leap-at-them-swinging-two-axes type, the heavy armor will serve you better. But for a sneaky type like my Khajit, for instance, light armor ends up bringing more benefits.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
* - I just arrived in Riften and, upon finding that Asbjorn Fire-Tamer (the owner of The Scorched Hammer) had a 15%+ Sneak ring on his person (which I couldn't get with my shitty Pickpocketing without alerting the whole city), I went all itamae on his haunches. Dude even remained in his chair all nice and composed, there was some serious grace at play there. I hope he didn't have juicy quests for me, though. That would suck.

you are level 22 and feel like you suck at things? I am 30 and feel like I am way too powerful. Suddenly I'm finding all this enchanted shit, glass/ebony weapons... earlier I was duel-wielding swords and I killed the majority of enemies with a single combined power attack.

the armor you get for finishing the thieves' guild questline is SO fuck*ng AWESOME. I am a huge fan.

If you guys wanna feel like big assholes,
I am so rich because of this application.

My problem with this game is that none of the merchants ever have enough money to buy the shit I wanna sell.

Stuff.

Cool, maybe there'll be a list of the most happenin' dungeons in Skyrim by the time I get back to it. And I know what you mean about resisting the "ooh, shiny" urge when playing these games; New Vegas almost became a chore until I made the conscious decision to stop rifling through every file cabinet and trashcan I came across.

Today I got my Smithing to level 100. Made awesome Legendary Glass armor/weapons for my companion, Legendary dragonscale armor for myself.

I am kind of worried that my armor and weapons are maxed out, and from here the game will just get harder and harder.

Also today: crossed the threshold. the cost of this game is now less than one dollar per hour I have played it. Even less if you include the hours my roommates have put in. Good investment! And just think of all the money I would have spent going out and doing things if I weren't glued to the TV.
