@achewood I am composing a tone poem about eagles, lawnmowers, and Ted Nugent. It is composed only of the sounds of those things.

I don't know how to respond other than OH MY GOD CONGRATULATIONS OH MY GOSH WOW

AHHHHH

lately I have thought a lot about the idea of having kids, and I am feeling very fascinated. Such a commitment to do a thing for the rest of your life. This future human could not ask for a better lady to come out of.

I came so close to telling you guys so many times.  The past three months have been really difficult for my physically. I wanted to complain and get some sympathy, but I also had some people I just had to tell first.  Heard the heart beat two and a half weeks ago.  That was pretty special.

Ineve, you will be a great dad one day.  I know it might not feel like it now, but you've got so much time.  So take your time and try not to panic.

I totally believe that. But going through the whole break-up thing has given me a lot of perspective on commitment, planning your future, family, etc. I have a much better understanding now of why people put off having kids, marriage, etc.
I am impressed that people pull it off. What a lovely mess life is.

As a person who can't keep secrets, I am also impressed that you kept this secret. I would totally be telling everyone I passed in the street. Congrats.

The big hold up initially was that hubby didn't want to tell anyone until he told his family, only his dad works out of province three weeks of the month and we wanted to tell his family in person, when they were all together, but unfortunately hubby got called into work the day his dad came home and the next day I was puking so much it was impossible to travel (they live an hour and a half away), so we missed our window, and his dad went back out of town, so we told his mom and sister in person and his dad over the phone.  I'd been gradually telling people I wanted to tell in person when I could see them, but I've been so sick and exhausted that it's been really drawn out.  All my close friends know, except my two work friends who I'll tell on Thursday when we're in the office together. My boss knows - she was not very good at hiding her disappointment.  Two of hubby's close friends know, he's waiting on two to call him back.  We've got to make an awkward call to his racist awful grandma today (cringe) so she call tell all his racist awful aunts and uncles (cringe). We're having a get-together with a group of a few of hubby's university friends this Sunday where we'll tell them, then it's basically out of the bag entirely.

Hubby's been great through all of it.  I can't even look at raw meat without getting queasy, it's my major nausea trigger, so he's been stepping up and doing some cooking.  He's been stepping up in lots of ways.

Weirdness:  I can't look at raw beef or chicken, if I touch it I barf for sure, but i can look at raw giraffe and eat it no problem.  I did a lot of research on sushi and pregnancy, and it turns out that whole "avoid all sushi" thing is basically a racist old-wives tale spawned by the horrible, fear-mongering "What to Expect" franchise.  This Tokyo Baby only wants sushi.  And yes, before anyone panics, I'm avoiding giraffe with high mercury (cooked or raw) and only going to very reputable sushi places that have never made me ill over multiple years of patronage.

WOoooo to the mutha-fuggin HOOOOO.
As someone who has not yet managed to get a couch into their apartment I am so ridiculously impressed by the willingness to commit to something this huge and awesome. Don't let people scare you too much, I've seen mothers with hell of diabetes literally leave kids in the ward to go downstairs for a smoke, and their little screamers came out more or less all right. I cannot imagine you doing anything to seriously jeopardise your future child.

Also, and I'll delete this if you feel it's disrespectful to speculate but I really like this game: I'm calling.... Boy.

Yes sir, I will be right beside that baby for the first year of her/his life.  A year of leave is pretty amazing, something I'm looking forward to as I redefine myself.

And yes, y'all can feel free to bet on gender, or any other aspect you'd like. I do not want to find out the gender until delivery, although I hear with the quality of ultrasound that it may be pretty obvious.
