The big hold up initially was that hubby didn't want to tell anyone until he told his family, only his dad works out of province three weeks of the month and we wanted to tell his family in person, when they were all together, but unfortunately hubby got called into work the day his dad came home and the next day I was puking so much it was impossible to travel (they live an hour and a half away), so we missed our window, and his dad went back out of town, so we told his mom and sister in person and his dad over the phone. I'd been gradually telling people I wanted to tell in person when I could see them, but I've been so sick and exhausted that it's been really drawn out. All my close friends know, except my two work friends who I'll tell on Thursday when we're in the office together. My boss knows - she was not very good at hiding her disappointment. Two of hubby's close friends know, he's waiting on two to call him back. We've got to make an awkward call to his racist awful grandma today (cringe) so she call tell all his racist awful aunts and uncles (cringe). We're having a get-together with a group of a few of hubby's university friends this Sunday where we'll tell them, then it's basically out of the bag entirely.
Hubby's been great through all of it. I can't even look at raw meat without getting queasy, it's my major nausea trigger, so he's been stepping up and doing some cooking. He's been stepping up in lots of ways.
Weirdness: I can't look at raw beef or chicken, if I touch it I barf for sure, but i can look at raw giraffe and eat it no problem. I did a lot of research on sushi and pregnancy, and it turns out that whole "avoid all sushi" thing is basically a racist old-wives tale spawned by the horrible, fear-mongering "What to Expect" franchise. This Tokyo Baby only wants sushi. And yes, before anyone panics, I'm avoiding giraffe with high mercury (cooked or raw) and only going to very reputable sushi places that have never made me ill over multiple years of patronage.
