Do we have a "Random" thread?
« on: October 21, 2013, 04:11:55 pm »

If not we do now.

-----------------------------------------
I'll kickstart the thread talking about a very famous and successfull post-punk/new wave band in Brazil, straight outta the 80's, who of course by now are aging, respectable rich men. The band was called Titãs ("Titans"), and they were known for their fiery political/artistic lyrical prowess (the frontman left after a while and became a bona fide figure in the São Paulo literary scene with books and shit, actually).

One of their most famous songs is "Bichos Escrotos" ("Disgusting Animals") [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diJMzgpbrI4 ], a lyrical morsel of which we bring to your attention:

"Spotted leopard / Striped zebra / Fluffy bunny: GO FUCK YOURSELVES!"

Look, it's a "random" thread.

That line you quote reminds me of the great, late and lamented Gilda Radner bit.

That was awesome. Love love love Gilda. Had never seen that before. Thank you for the link.

A friend of mine posted this link to her "intuitive guidance sessions." I was nicely told otherwise when I caller her a Fortune Teller. But c'mon, I'm not wrong am I?

$40 for 30 minutes of talking about my dreams and desires? I'd rather pay less money and just have Ash punch me in the face while telling me to unfuck myself and focus. I think I'd get more out of that.

But no, she sounds less like a fortune teller and more like a wacky kind of motivational coach who will end every session with 'Follow your dreams and you will be happy'. One of her colleagues claims to "go into the blue prints or soul design using light codes, vibration energy and channeled guidance to create shifts". Now that sounds like a party.

Lonely, anxious people will pay good money to have someone listen to them and give them gentle reassurance.

anxious people

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head. She posted the link in the comments of a friend who posted "I need to go back to school. What should I be when I grow up?"

Is there a word for a man who must raise a child that is not genetically his? I thought it was cuckold, but that isn't right.
In this story, two men were in a duel and the loser of the duel had a wife and unborn child so the winner feels duty bound to support the wife and raise the child. I'm missing a word to describe the position the dude is in.

It would probably also depend on the man's relationship to the widow.

This one hit a little close to home.

I have told my parents constantly over the past 3 years that my schedule is really unpredictable, but they were SURE it would be fine if they booked their flight to visit me a day earlier than we had discussed. Surprise, they get here tomorrow at noon and I have work until 9pm. That is going to be a frustrating shift.

I know that I am melodramatic about things, but in this case they are wrong to assume I am blowing things out of proportion. I asked for thursday and friday off, and they booked their flight for wednesday and were upset when I told them I wouldn't be free.
