I guess it's sad that Chris is complaining about his sad old phone which is still newer than mine. I don't even have a SIM. But on the plus side I just used my 1,000th minute. It only took 4 years.
Sadly I'm going to have to agree with Pat that shows overlapping is huge pain in the ass. Although I've never seen The O'Reilly Factor.

Although I've never seen The O'Reilly Factor.
You should say this with pride.

Sadly I'm going to have to agree with Pat that shows overlapping is huge pain in the ass.
What's worse is when you have stations like TBS that run their programming five minutes later than other stations. Or at least that's how it was for the longest time. Do they still do that anymore, or have they gotten the hint?
Even though Pat's a dick, I wish him luck getting the WPM up over 100. That's no mean feat.
-
No, TBS stopped with Turner Time a while ago. I'm mainly talking about Alias running until 10:01 thus making my TiVo record Mythbusters at like 1am. Or for about 2 years Fox would start the Simpsons at 7:59 but would still list it at 8 so I'd always miss the couch gag.
-
They did that on purpose just to fuck up Tivoing/recording people. It backfired on them, though, as people just stopped watching the shows that they did that with.
NBC was the major culprit, starting shows early, ending other shows early - so much so that they went from being the #1 network to #4 (behind Fox, even) in just one season.
Consequently, they don't do that anymore.
P.S. The spell check wanted to change "Tivoing" to "Diving" - and I think I may experiment for a week by letting the spell check change anything it doesn't like. It should make proper names more fun!
-
Using NetZero is so Pat.
-
Just two months ago my cell phone did weird things and I assumed that SOS was a shortcut to calling customer service.
Same result, and I was pissed too. Why would you not just put '911' there?
-

For the same reason that the 'on/off' buttons on phones never say 'on' and/or 'off'?
-
For the same reason that the 'on/off' buttons on phones never say 'on' and/or 'off'?
Ford flipped the switch which he saw was marked "Mode Execute Ready" instead of the now old-fashioned "Access Standby" that had so long ago replaced the appallingly stone-aged "Off."
-
I used to have to manually dial my modem to connect to my SLIP account, long ago. I don't miss that. Come to think of it, I don't miss anything about using the Interwebs then, except that ads were Evil and Not The Thing To Do. I didn't have to modify my own hosts file to turn off annoying looping ads with sound in a game I already pay a fee to play. Assholes. I also regret not getting a five-digit ICQ number, but there you go.
Currently ESPN is doing that annoying non-specific time thing which messes up my TiVo to no end, but all it really means is that I don't watch the shows I told it to record, which I am assuming is not their goal. As long as I get Mike and Mike in the Morning properly, I get enough ESPN for any given day, really. So.
Wow, this must be what it would be like to have a regularly-updated blog of my own! Mood: (http://www.intemporality.com/images/avatars/006.gif) Fiendish
-
At least ESPN has the excuse of not knowing exactly how long a given event will take. Unless they show stuff on tape or show non-event programming in which case what's the point of even calling themselves a sports channel?
-
Using NetZero is so Pat.
I agree. I like the way Blogger was able to get all his "hello"s and modem strings, though.
-
I hope his dog is all right.
-
So I'm confused. Are the racoons actually sentient and saying things or is Ray just making up stuff they would say? Or did it change halfway through the blog entry? Man, Achewood is complicated.
-
I suspect raccoons are kind of like dogs: sentient, but not the sharpest tools in the shed. All revertin' to primal squeaks.
-
I like that Ray combines words to produce greater dramatic effect: "growlfights," "mortal-ponyboyin'" (what the hell is that), and "deathsmothers."
Does "mortal-ponyboyin'" have anything to do with The Outsiders?
-
He's right though - raccoons are hell of crass.
-
I am so unbelievably glad Onstad didn't decide to have Philippe kill Franky in some horrible accidental way. This was a completely touching entry.
Is it me or is Philippe living the hardships of mature life in fast forward? Being forced into marriage, bereavement, fatherhood, watching the proverbial birds leave the proverbial nest, etc etc etc
-
It could, perhaps, be Onstad's way of commenting on how kids grow up too fast in today's society - they're pushed to learn too much too fast, they start engaging in "adult" behavior earlier than they should... kids shooting people, teenagers having babies. By subjecting Philippe to all this at the age of five/six, what he might be saying is "What will be of this child when he is an adult? Because soon, your child will be. And so will mine."
Or it could be the whiskey that makes him be mean to kids.

Nah, it's not that, it's about yourself failing to grow up, yet growing up too quickly. Phillipe is ourself and When the last birds flew away Franky stretched his wings and jumped into the air to follow them. I'm glad he looked back one last time, because I was waving at him. When I was sure he was too far away to see me anymore I went over to the little space between the shed and the fence and I had a long cry all by myself where nobody could see. It is hard enough to be a dad, I don't want people to make fun of me too.
I don't even have a child. I don't know if it's all of the brandy in my blood... but... hell of emotions runnin'.
It makes me feel good. Sort of.
It is 8:30 AM. It has been a long night.
-
**weeps**
Goddamit Onstad I was having a good day.
-
See, this is the kind of thing that renews my faith in Onstad as a writer. This packs just as much emotional punch as any ending could have, and it doesn't involve gratuitously killing Franky off. I'm not sure whether it means anything or not, but I'm not sure if I care (for once in my life). Well-played, Mr. Onstad.
-
Little by little their circle got bigger, and then one end of it came loose and they started to fly away like a long ribbon.
That's lovely imagery. The suppressed English major in me appreciates Philippe's entry greatly.
-
Scary Thought: Nice Pete may be the Charles Manson of the Underground.
-
Joining in the praise for Phillipe's little drama. I wasn't following it, then caught the last entry and went reading backwards. Hella cute.
Just as a proof that you can't have the cake and eat it too, it *is* beautifully written on its own right, but somehow I'd expect Phillipe's writing to be a little less elegant, or maybe not necessarily less elegant, but still different. There aren't typos, no spelling errors. I'm not complaining, just... remarking. And maybe adding more realistic typos and the characteristic spelling errors of a 5-year old on an entry about failed precocious fatherhood would take the entry to an unbearable, health-hazardous level of cute.
-
I've always imagined that Teodor or RB or someone did the typing for him, and as a super secret thing never to tell anyone that they did. Probably RB, because he's said stuff about Teodor before that he was trying to keep secret.

I was wondering about that as well, since most five-year-olds can't write very well and read at a fairly low level (note the word "most" in there, I wasn't talking about your kids.) So how does Philippe blog?
Then it hit me: Dragon Naturally Speaking.
This would probably explain Lyle's blog too.
-
Well, we do know that Beef does the Fun Facts (and presumable the whole Phillipe Times) (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=08192005) for Phillipe after all.

Oh no, Cornelius! Run! Heed the advice of Brother Williams:
I'm running, yes, before it's too late.
Trying to get away from that jail bait.
It's a rough temptation, but a common invitation.
And a good association.
But a quick elimination, that will take you out of circulation.
Yes, I'm talking about that younger generation.
So take my advice fellas--for goodness' sake.
15, 16, 17, that's...jail bait.
Now they swear that they're in love.
That you and her are by stars above.
And she's looking mighty good, just like a young girl should.
We try to tell you no, and let that young girl go.
But you, you know it all. You have yourself a ball.
And now that it's too late, as you look from cell number 8...
I tried to tell you, mate...
17 and a half is still...jail bait.
So tomorrow's the date, for the trial of jail bait.
And this you watch and see, the young girl will go free.
And you will get 1 to 3.
So out the door she walks. To another man she talks.
Before you can count, from 1 to 8...
Another man in for...jail bait.

Philippe is a stuffed doll and being that he is made of non-living matter, he encompasses all of the universe's knowledge, including English grammar and touch typing.
By random selection, not all of this universal knowledge is exercised simultaneously and must be recalled through a process we would call 'learning,' despite the fact that it is really more of a remembering.

LET SOCRATES DIE!
-
The line about the Corgi made Ray's entire post worth reading today.
-
Yeah, I was gonna say I like the idea/phrase that is "Dog Switchboard". Is so good.
-
OMG! Teodor has an old-timey communism propaganda poster. This proves that Chris reads the board and gets ideas from us because of hobot's avatar and the whole Russian thread!!111!
.
.
.
Oh, wait, sorry. I thought I was on the Simpsons newgroup for a minute there.
-
I like the 'it is from history" bit. If I had anything vintage, and people asked me "when is that from?", I'd just answer "uh, you know, it's from history".
Anyway, today I realized how cluttered my desktop was with a mess of scattered files and "untitled" folders, so I finally took action and cleaned it up. COMMUNISM!
-
I love the phrase "it is from history." So applicable.
Also, I approve of Philippe's definition of "Communism," since it appears to mean "cleaning the kitchen."
-
I am anxious to see if the domino effect will actually happen this time.
Also, I did laundry today. COMMUNISM!

Indeed, however, being from histoory is not a new concept. (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=01272005)

Yeah, I was planning on pointing that out myself -- did Philippe pick it up from (stoned) Ray, or is it a more general Underground saying?
-
If I had any influence on Téodor's purchase of a Communist propaganda poster and Philippe's adoption of the Communist Way of Life, I can confidently assert that my life has Meaning. Thank you, Chris Onstad. Thank you for making my life worth living.
-
Here (http://www.cafepress.com/dogs_of_war/625698) is the propaganda poster that they need at Achewood Manor.
-
I think I'm ordering that.
-
Aw, that dog reminds me of my old friend's dog, Barney, back in h.s.
He was upset I didn't pay him any attention and used to lick my feet then pause and glance up with wide eyes waiting for a response.
I started to feel bad for fearing dogs at that moment (not that I fear that breed of dog *ahem*). heh.
-
The same basic thing happened to one of my old computers. I had the old nVidia GForce card with a tiny fan on it and the fan got so clogged with dust that it siezed up. Luckily it was under warranty so I got a newer card for free.
-
This is why you shouldn't just leave the sides of your computer.
Of course, the one I built has 14 fans in it because I am retarded, so I get more dust anyway. Cleaning is like a monthly ritual for me. I burn candles and kill a chicken. It is silly.
-
I need a better cooling system. My apt doesn't have central air and can get up to almost 90 sometimes which can't be good for the computer. I see all these fancy extra fans and even a tiny air conditioner that fits in a 5.25 bay but I don't know what would actually help. Plus I'm not sure what my power supply can handle because I was too lame to spring for the bigger one.
-
It sounds like what you need is a large amount of mineral oil, a small amount of liquid nitrogen, and a pump that doesn't mind being a little chilly. This is what all the cool kids to to void the warranty on their processor as fast as possible.
-
Haha! Teodor's Photoshop Phriday was funny enough on its own, but then I realized he used a picture of Professor Snape for Trent Reznor. Then it was even better.
-
Wow Pat is gay. Really gay. Is anybody going to tell him?
-
Have we ever been properly appreciative of the fact that Pat's blog is called "A Journey into Reason"?
-
Is Teodor's Photoshop Phriday a knock at SomethingAwful.com's Photoshop Phriday? Doesn't SA.com use that same term? Could just be a weird coincidence.
Also, I love Pat's creepiness. But if someone did that to me, I would possibly need therapy for-ever.
-
OMG OMG OMG! (http://www.obeythepurebreed.com/images/shih_tzu_sm.gif)
IT'S JUST LIKE MY PUPPY!!! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/Bozack/ohyoko.jpg)

I suspect it's an intentional joke on SA's PhoPhri. It's a little opaque, but man, the use of Snape for Reznor just kills
Also, I love Pat's creepiness. But if someone did that to me, I would possibly need therapy for-ever.
Maybe it's just me, but I think I'd break up laughing. Honestly, what else can you do when someone has revenge that lame?
Also, I'd buy the salami just to spite him.
-
Pat just dreams of men with salami down their ******. You know this, all humankind knows this in their loins.
-
As a person who works in a grocery store... Nothing makes me angrier when somebody is too lazy to return the cart to the cart-return.
-
I'm surprised that a vegulon like Pat would touch salami.
-
I'm surprised that a vegulon like Pat would touch salami.
It was in a wrapper and Pat had on his grocery shopping gloves still because do you have any idea how many IGNORANT people will touch the package on the front of the shelf, getting their GERMS all over it and not have the common decency to buy the product?
-
Oh, man, I loved Pat's new entry. The overwhelming Freudian overtones absolutely killed me.
I bet that revenge totally gave Pat a trouser salami.
-
a trouser salami.
If I am a good person and lead a clean life, someday will I forget this phrase? Please?
-
Onstad mentioning his NeXT box hunchery makes me ask: does anyone want to buy a NeXT cube? I am the original owner and I have upgraded the hell out of it. Comes with an assload of peripherals and software for NeXT you wouldn't be able to buy (like Oracle 6).
-
I wish great success to Onstad the old crochety web design curmudgeon. Nothing brings out the Pat in me like a web site that starts with a big hairy Flash animation of pictures fading into one another. And music. You and your Flash animation and rollover buttons, I will take my hard earned Paypal-button-clicking Visa-card-number-typing fingers elsewhere.
-
I <3 Flashblock

As a person who works in a grocery store... Nothing makes me angrier when somebody is too lazy to return the cart to the cart-return.
For a moment I thought you were going to say that nothing makes you angrier than people shoving salamis down their trousers and then trying to return it.
But isn't anybody wondering how does Pat know that for a fact?
Haha! Teodor's Photoshop Phriday was funny enough on its own, but then I realized he used a picture of Professor Snape for Trent Reznor. Then it was even better.
Where can I buy the old Nimbus 2000 OF DESPAIR that Professor Snape used to fly when a student in Hogwarts?
