Get ready for a visit from Hernandez...

Meh... I can get that quality for cheaper here. I have never read an article on drugs that had even semi-correct prices, at least as far as I pay. 100 for a gram of coke? 80 for some schwag? I have gotten that for as low as 35-40. (actually both of those things)
Anyhow, I smoke the "designer" stuff, which is like 50-70 for an 8th of an ounce.
-
every time I think it is time for me to start smoking pot, I remember that it is expensive as fuck. good lord.
-
If you smoke like a couple times a week that good stuff will last you at least two weeks.
If you smoke all the time, well, it gets expensive.
-
it is pretty obvious to me that I do not understand any of these measurements at all.
-
Wow all those billions of dollars and thousands of years in prison sentences have really succeeded in lowering prices and raising quality of illegal drugs. That was the goal of the war on drugs right? Oh wait...
-
*cue old-timers groaning about the price of a lid*

Nice.

See, when you buy quality American made (just being an asshole) pot that weighs one eighth of what the Mexican pot ways (3.5 g, an eighth of an ounce, which is 28 grams, usually $50(for the good stuff)), they usually will take up the same amount of bag space. One will be super condensed and will look like it was ripped off of a bigger super condensed chunk. That stuff takes way more of it to get high and is usually a mix between green and brown, which is why it is called dirt weed. Also, you have to take seeds out of it. The other stuff only takes maybe 4-10 hits, depending on quality and how high you want to get and is super fluffy, or at least not hell of condensed, and usually really green, if not some crazy orange or reddish from little "hairs" on it. Sometimes it is purple if you pay enough and get lucky, at least where I am.
Basically in my experience, an eighth of good weed will get you high as many times as the shitty ounce (usually $40-60), only it is super enjoyable to smoke and has a better high, which is why some people run through it faster. Also, there are no seeds, which is nice.
It is okay to talk about weed here, right? I'll stop once this thread gets derailed, should be soon!
And Inev, weed can get really expensive, and, well, I don't know how to say this; I am a person on the internet and you are a smart guy, so what I say probably won't matter to you, or at least you won't do stuff because I say it, but I have done nearly every drug except heroin, though I have done the closest pill substitute, and smoke cigarettes. The only one I would recommend someone I care about do, if they came to me honestly or whatever, is weed. I would say never, never do coke, but I think that has a lot to do with my experience based on my addictive personality. Besides that do what you want to do (I have enjoyed most drugs), but seriously, I didn't sleep last night and am getting lost. Here: If my younger sister who I really like and respect came and talked to me about drugs, etc., I would not tell her to do e or shrooms or whatever, even though I had a good time on them. I would probably try to talk her out of them. On the other hand, while I wouldn't smoke her out or contribute to her doing it in anyway, I would somehow get across the point that weed is ok in moderation. Lots of other people on here have smoked from what I can tell, and I think they would agree generally that weed is perfectly fine in its time and place. If not I am sure they will correct me, which is okay too.
-
A little weed, here and there, is awesome.
Getting into the whole lifestyle, not so much. That can be bad.

QFT. That shit will rob you of your ambition.
-
um, I had typed out a whole thing here, and then I somehow deleted it. Basically, I figure I will try it at some point.
-

The reason, kids, is that once you do coke, you never don't want to do more coke. Its just that good.

Just look at Whitney Houston.
-
Once you do coke, it's no longer a joke.
-
Uh-oh, here comes Robin Williams.
-
haha. I don't regret doing it, but I do regret each time I am annoying as shit to someone with it, and paying that person the next day.
-
I quit buying pot when the price soared to $25 for a quarter oz. Apparently they have been trying to woo me back ever since by stabilizing the price.
I can't speak to the current price of weed as I haven't purchased any in over 20 years, but my pot smoking friends all smoke the really good shit that will take the top of your head off. The last time I smoked pot (two Christmases ago) I was high for three days on one toke.

Yea wtf is up with that? My friend took one toke of this new stuff and he was useless as a ping pong partner for basically half a week.
-
Yeah, that stuff is awesome.
-

This is true. I took a drag off a friend's pipe a few years ago and forgot how to play the guitar. Which sucked, because we were recording that night.

As a kid, I had really bad asthma. So what was the natural, rebellious thing to do as a teenager? Why, smoke 2 packs of Marlboro reds per day in high school, of course! Then I was smoking some ungodly joint with my friends, passed out (my lips and fingernails were blue, I guess) and busted out my front tooth and part of the tooth next to it. GREAT JOERB!!! I got to have a root canal on Number 8.
Then I had the brilliant idea of getting my crowns replaced in Alaska. The work that the dentist did was heinous. Guess what he had done before he came to AK to be a dentist -- he was a prison dentist. Suh-weeeeeeeet. It will be 2010 before insurance will pay to replace them, and even then they only cover 50% and the original has to be damaged and irreparable. Plus, the fragile little root canal will probably snap like a twig in a gale when the non-prison-dentist tries to take it off with their crazy-ass, Dremel-like tools and I'll have to get an implant. I hope they come up with nonmetallic implants by then, because of my stupid metal allergies.
-
Well I didn't break any teeth, but I did take about 30 minutes to drive the 1 miles to my house. I had to leave the party because I had lost the ability to communicate with words.
-

40 cigarettes a day?? Jesus fuck, were you smoking them in class?
-

Heh, I am having a great mental image of a young Paul trying to communicate through interpretive dance to his stoned pals. Awesome.
40 cigarettes a day?? Jesus fuck, were you smoking them in class?
Pretty close... we had "designated smoking areas" on campus, one at either end (we had a very large campus). Between classes I would dart out there, suck down one or two, and then get back to class. Lots of chain-smoking. I don't think I had to be at my after-school job every night after school; however, smoke breaks are a great way to get a few minutes of peace and quiet. If you don't smoke, you just look lazy.
-
Heh, I am having a great mental image of a young Paul trying to communicate through interpretive dance to his stoned pals. Awesome.
This was just two years ago, but I guess I'm still young. I keep telling myself that anyway.
-
Yeah, I smoke like 25-30 cigarettes a day, if I am smoking pre rolls, but in high school I smoked way more. Chain smoking all the time. I couldn't smoke at school though.
smoke breaks are a great way to get a few minutes of peace and quiet. If you don't smoke, you just look lazy.
That is so true. I have a friend who, when he had to get a 9-5 job, smoked just to get breaks.
-
I smoked from age 14 to about 34, but I never got much over a pack a day - and that was when I could smoke a lot during the day. We didn't get off campus much during school, just at lunch. Plus I was saving my lung room for weed.
-
smoke breaks are a great way to get a few minutes of peace and quiet. If you don't smoke, you just look lazy.
This is almost exactly why I started smoking. When i got my first after school job, i noticed all the managers and owners would step out simultaneously for "Production Meeting"s. They were producing smoke, and so I joined the party... as a career move. It paid off. Smoke For Success, kids.
-
If you don't smoke, you just look lazy.
Uh, people, you are not fooling anyone. Well, OK, you are fooling some of the people some of the time - I once had a horrible job at a vet briefly, and the thing that pushed me over the edge to quit was the time that she yelled at me because I was standing around not working for a minute - because the only person who could tell me what to do was outside taking a smoke break, out of sight, out of mind.
-
I don't have hang ups with smokers that some non-smokers seem to have but I don't think anyone who doesn't smoke would class people on smoke breaks as being productive. If anything the knowledge that someone smokes means you can rely on them to spend a noticable portion of their day servicing this addiction instead of working.
Then again my room-mate started smoking in high school for basically the same reason, so I guess it depends on whether your bosses are ducking out for a smoke or not.
I was going to make a crack here about damaging your health long term to get friendly with your boss but frankly people do much more destructive things for their careers, at least smoking is relaxing and communal.
-
the thing that is attractive about smoking to me is how it makes you really grossly dependent on inhaling harmful chemicals. The way people crave it out of all proportion to how fun or good it is. The way people just need that one cigarette, and are so glad for like 5 seconds when they get it. The compulsive addiction.
...I am not kidding. Reading too much about the Velvet Underground and beat poets and the like have made me romanticize this kind of behavior in a way which the reasonable part of my brain is repulsed by.
The guy I worked with at a supermarket, who would volunteer to go get carts when it was raining so that he could suck down a cigarette in the 10 seconds it took to walk out to the parking lot? so cool.
-
People who smoke cigarettes generally arent happy they are smoking cigarettes. Usually when I see someone smoking a cigarette they look unhappy and mad. The opposite can be said for cigar smokers. Cigar smokers almost always look like they are having the time of their life. My personal experience confirms this- I have smoked a cigarette in a mad mood, but I have never been unhappy while smoking a Cigar.
-
The arguement in this (http://www.instantclassic.net/story.php?comicID=71) comic's 4th panel is the only thing that's made me want to smoke.
Still kind of alluring at times though.
-
see, the thing where they are mad is the thing that makes me want to smoke them.
-
Lung cancer is pretty punk rock.
Also: this (http://www.instantclassic.net/story.php?comicID=81). I'll stop now.
-
That is so true. I have a friend who, when he had to get a 9-5 job, smoked just to get breaks.
I had a construction job for six weeks when I was 18; my dad was the union foreman, which is why it didn't last 8 or 12 or 20. When I realized that every hour, the guys on the job were taking a break for five minutes, I joined them. My dad saw this, and yelled at me to get back inside and do whatever it was I was doing. The other guys, "give 'em a break, dick, we're having a cigarette." Dad pointed out that I didn't smoke. I told him, "Dad, either you let me come out here with them, or I'll show up with a pack of cigarettes tomorrow."
I got to keep my "smoke" breaks.

Every time I see the title of this thread, I keep hearing Kim Deal singing in my head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK0CJqMK6f0). Also, is it just me, or does Frank Black's head look too big for his body in that video? It was 1988...they looked like babies!!
-
...I hate being this guy, but, that's the year I was born!
So much good music came out the year I was born. I keep listening to albums and saying "wow, this came out 20 years ago... hey... I came out (almost) 20 years ago!"
-

Yeah, I can speak to the extreme dubiousness of Alaskan dentists. When I was a kid in Fairbanks, we had a pretty good family dentist, but when I was in sixth grade and got my braces, the orthodontist was so sketchy that he had somehow lost half a finger. A 9.5-fingered orthodontist is like the definition of "untrustworthy professional."
(In case you were wondering -- yes, he also sucked as an orthodontist. When I moved down to Nebraska after seventh grade, my new one basically looked at my braces, shook his head sadly, and started triage. I was still out of them six months faster than the Fairbanks doctor's estimate.)
-
Jesus, I wish I hadn't read this thread. I miss Copenhagen like sin now.
Even if you ain't wondering, that was a sonuvabitch to break. Mostly because I like that stuff, odd as that may seem.
Now my life is a melange of sugarless gum and sad little gnawed stir sticks. Sometimes I make damaged dinky little stick figures with them after use and have them all arrayed about and telling each other how the lowered risk of oral cancer is so totally worth it.
Sure.
Damn, Ash. I can't imagine chewing tobacco. Did your lady kiss you when you chewed? What about going down on her? Weren't you worried about giving her pussy cancer when you chewed tobacco?
-
linnea says what I was trying to figure out how to say.
oral ____ should only be filled in with one word, and it is not "Cancer."

I mean shit, my beloved Spouse is not a spitoon.
Best sentence ever.
For one day and one day only I worked at a call centre taking calls for a company offering free cans of their new Berry flavoured chew (I didn't know the call centre did tobacco stuff - they took calls for about 100 companies) The majority of kids calling in actually admitted to being underage, or were too stupid to lie or something. It made me feel dirty anyway. I never went back.
-
Cigarrettes will take you away from someone who loves you, someday.
Fuck cigarrettes.
-
Hells no. But then again I didn't sit around the house spitting in a cup either. I also brush well and often.
Yep, favourite activity but always dip free. I mean shit, my beloved Spouse is not a spitoon. That way, at least. I hove me some dignity.
Carcinogens and communicable diseases are different categories, 'eh.
ALSO: Tomorrow and Monday are range days, I associate outdoor sporting times with the dip.
Hence: Hankerin' Hankerin' Hankerin' Hankerin' Hankerin' Hankerin' Hankerin' Hankerin'
PUSSY CANCER KNOWS NOT OF YOUR FOOLISH SCIENCE OR LOGIC
PUSSY CANCER KNOWS ONLY FEAR
Ash, even if you did not actively have a dip in your mouth during Sexy Times, I can still imagine tiny carcinogens leaping from your gums and onto Spouse's lady-parts.
-
If it makes you feel any worse ash, I quit dipping copenhagen about 25 years ago and I still sometimes get a hankerin'.
-
Shit. At least I've improved my chances of outliving the habit by 25 years so's I can miss it.
ALSO: It's OK Somebody nice, I recognize non-cognitive fears when I read 'em and just like to roll along with the tide. I really wanted to type that line Smells quoted anyways.
That was a pretty awesome line, dude.
-
I'm not going to go looking for it, but likely there is a sort of porn out there where the SO is a spitton. Someone probably eats that shit up... oh, wait...
-
Spitorn?
Sporn?
I'm wonderin' how that'd work etamomalogicalicalistically.
-
I'm super-hopeful that, what with the quitting smoking after 20+ years (a while ago), that I don't get cancer or anything like that.
-
Holding off the inevitable is still a worthy pursuit regardless.
Don't worry about holding him off - he's made it quite clear he's hetero.
Here all week - try veal - tip waitress.
-
All the pining makes me wonder if the inevitable being held off is sort of a fetish - sort of like the whole cuckold thing, but only without any self gratification and all of the personal termoil.
-
This thread has nothing to do with me. What the hell!

Paul fuckin' rules! Whooooo-HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Paul fuckin' rules! Whooooo-HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Nabu's as drunk as MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
woot.

Paul! I saw an art-car in Charlotte, but i didn't have my camera. It was also in an area surrounded by a barbed-wire fence, late at night, in a part of Charlotte I don't know. I know I've seen pictures of this particular car around... in fact, I am pretty sure I had shown you a picture of this one before. He covered the car in some kind of moldable material, and molded it into all these cool designs before it dried. It looks really rad.

Sometimes I miss being that young. Be careful, dammit!
-
I'm getting to that age, where I can look back with friends and laugh -"we could have died!" "I know!" "I can't believe we didn't die!" "I can't believe we didn't end up in jail!" "Ha, ha!" "I guess we made it!" "Good Times!" "But I don't want to go back to that! Would you?" "Oh, hell no!" "Ha, ha!"
-
I basically never allowed myself those kinds of adventures.
I was a very paranoid and cautious kid which is to say I was never actually much of a kid at all.
Fuck. Fuck, y'know, that actually explains so much... haha.
-
I mean. I was driving by. I know that part of town in a narrow, straight area where I drive through it to get somewhere else.
-

I'm with LFM on this one.
Solidarity of the terminally geeky. Oh yeah.
We'd have a secret handshake, but we're afraid of spreading germs.
-
We'll have to have a secret hand-wave instead, then.
-
I am pretty paranoid and cautious, but also, I do not always know when I should be scared.
-
See, I always know when to be scared even when I shouldn't be scared.
It is kinda my thing.
...maybe a secret nod, though, instead of a wave. Less conspicuous, you understand.
-
We wouldn't ever meet face-to-face to exchange secret handshakes/nods/waves. There would be a secret series of letters that we would put in signatures on forums like this one.
(I was also a very cautious young'un - this is how I've made it to 30 without doing a single illegal drug or smoking a single cigarette)
-
I'm going down that path myself, 'haus. Nicotine frightens me, and I'm too much of a control freak for other drugs to hold much of an allure. It's a sad, dorky life I live.
-
I too have never smoked a tobacco cigarette... though I do enjoy a cigar every month or two and weed is awesome as long as you're not being tested for it. Harder drugs, I've eschewed, but weed and I are both so awesome that we had to cross paths at times.
Spiderman had to meet Superman, y'know, it just had to happen.
-
I talk about the secret series of characters as if it's something I've never done before. It isn't. In my freshman year of college, some friends of mine, jealous of the secret societies at UVA, decided to form our own at the college I attended. It lasted a semester. No painting of the symbols on dozens of buildings around town - ours were relegated primarily to our webpages and the occasional desk in a classroom.
-
Well your society's symbols wouldn't last long, unless you suddenly and publicly donated assloads of money, also.
-
dang, me and my roommate were totally going to make a secret society. There is just one (that we know of) at washU, and they are hell of suspect.
basically the only secret is that... they raise buttloads of money at this big carnival they throw every year, and no one knows where it goes. They donate money to charities, but the charities have to sign a thing saying they will never disclose how much was given. hell of suspect.
um, yeah, I have smoked 1 and a half cigarettes. In one case, it was offered to me by a complete stranger, I smoked some, and then my friends got all "oh my god, his first cigarette! oh my gosh!" and made it into a weird big deal because they all smoked.
The other time, it was offered to me by the bass player of a cool band, and my friend told me I was a major asshole wannabe for taking it.
Basically, I think I would smoke if it wouldn't lead to me and my clothes smelling horrible, and being socially ostracized. also, you know, cancer.
-
Trust me, cool bass players who smoke (cough cough-in this situation I am referring to myself, this could be confusing, it is not HAAAAAAK HAAAAAAAAAACK UGGGGH) do not care if you take their cigarette. They will not look down on you.
If you tell them that story on the internet they will agree with your friend though. Well, maybe not major, but the rest.
-
I mean. I took it because he was being friendly, and I wanted to see what smoking was like, since the other time it was less "half a cigarette" and more "2 puffs."
-
I'm just glad I'm not alone in having a youth free of exciting incident. I'm just starting to realise all this cool stuff I could have done at the point where I'm really to old to get away with it anymore. Kind of sad.
I've never smoked a cigarette but there are these really irritating holier than thou notices on the benches around here asking people not to smoke and leave their butts there. It's in the form of a poem called 'ode to a park bench' and if I ever walk by that with someone who does smoke I will bum a cigarette, light up and then put that fucker out in the 'O' in 'ode', I hate that stuff: just say 'don't smoke'.
-
I used to smoke, actually, I picked it up for the dumbest reason in the universe -- to impress a guy I liked (hey, I was fourteen). It took me ten years to kick it. Even now -- well, not *now* on account of the baby and all -- but sometimes when I'm out having a few drinks I'll buy a pack, smoke less than half of it, and throw the rest away. I enjoy a smoke now and then, but I definitely am not addicted. It's more of a thing I do to enhance my bargoing experience on the rare occasions I have the opportunity to go to a bar.
I know this probably sounds freakish to you Cali-folks, but remember that I live in Tobaccoland, where not only can you still smoke in most bars and restaurants, but also in the Winston-Salem shopping mall.
I didn't really drink at all until I was 22, didn't drive until I turned 18, never lived away from home for college (in fact, didn't move out of my parents' pool house until 6 months before I got married). I smoked a little weed in high school but only for the brief period before I met Pedro when I was dating a guy who grew his own stuff. It was probably incredibly low-quality but I was too dumb to know the difference anyway.
What I really meant, though, was that my cautiousness and general disinterest in living dangerously began in early childhood. I didn't get a two-wheeled bike until I was ten; I never climbed a tree, played pickup kickball in an empty lot, or kicked open a wasp's nest to see what was inside. (Apparently, if Pedro is to be believed, these are normal things to do. I lived in the suburbs. The only wasps we had were the people who attended the Presbyterian church across the street.)
I also have never broken a bone or had a cavity. I never went to the emergency room until college, when I hacked a chunk out of my thumb with a chef's knife while working at the Chik-fil-a at the student union. (I've been to the ER three times in my life, and had to get a tetanus booster all three times.) I got stung by a bee once, because it landed on my glasses while I was playing in the sandbox and when I went to swat it away, I hit the stingin' end by mistake. But usually I wasn't outside long enough to encounter wildlife that closely. I mean, the highlight of my summer between third and fourth grade was reading the encyclopedia all the way through S. (It was a "children's" encyclopedia, probably aimed at sixth graders or thereabouts. Not by any means comprehensive. But still. Geeky.) I was not exactly the kind of kid Mom had to worry about coming home bloody and bruised. In fact, some of my most distinct memories of summertime as a kid involve her coming into my bedroom and insisting that I put down that book, for Pete's sake, and go outside for a while. When I was reading the Babysitter's Club, I had a two-book-a-day habit that drove Mom crazy.
And don't even get me started on Choose Your Own Adventures.
-
I live on about 64 acres.
When I was about 12-14, I used to drive my dads truck all around there (he was at work, it was a truck for working in the field/grass clippings only(actually it still is, drove it today while axing trees)). One day I drove it to my basketball goal and started dunking off of the tailgate. I missed one time, fell ten feet on concrete, landed on my head and was literally passed out for hours (at the hospital of course). My friend called my mom and told her I was dead.
Good times.

Well that explains a lot.
-
Too easy.
Also, not my only concussion!
To be fair, the other one was minor, happened only because of the first and in organized sports.
-
I went through a period where I kept getting winded/concussed from falling off things. It started when I tripped over a cat at my great uncle's place and then kept increasing as my family travelled north. I also have a scar down the middle of my scalp from getting knocked oin the head with a plank of wood. Those are about the most exciting things that happened to me in my childhood.
-
When I was a pre-teen, shortly after we'd been taught sex ed in school, I was climbing on this snow fort we'd built on the playground and I managed to slip in a way where I slammed my crotch directly on the rigidly frozen snow wall full force. I was hella embarrassed to tell anyone due to my recent lessons in lady plumbing so I acted like nothing happened. Truthfully I was in such agony for days and days that I worried I'd some how broken my pu$$y. Thankfully it turns out it was more like when Peter Parker got bit by the spider.

As with Ash, I judge there is no sense in following this one.
Super-pussy!
-
That is the best possible way for any story to end.
Except when The Outer-Space Devil ends up saving a 120-year-old dying woman in trade for your marriage and twenty years end up going right down the pooper, of course.
But that'd be silly.
-
That is the best possible way for any story to end.
It took me some time to master my powers, and to learn to use them for good, rather than... good.
-
With great pussy comes great responsibility?
-
Undoubtedly - the responsibility is to share it with me!
-
I'll take the soup, I've got enough cats of my own, thanks.
Jesus. You know, I sort of hold you to a higher standard than that.
