@achewood I shouldn't have to tell people not to hit me on the head nearly so often as I do.

Where in North Carolina are you from, idiom?

Born in Asheville, living now in Carrboro (formerly known as "The Place Where the Train to Chapel Hill Let Off, Back When People Took Trains").

The other day, I found a record in the radio station that I've been looking for since I was a sophomore in high school. It was in a bin of records to be thrown out, I don't know why. It was Crazy Rhythms by the Feelies, which I have described to people as "what I would sound like if I were a really brilliant band" or something to that effect. The CD is out of print and has been forever... apparently record stores typically charge hell of money for a copy. I have it on my computer, but, that isn't the same. When I found it I screamed in a really embarassing way.

Listening to it, I realized that I really want their distortion sound, and yesterday I saw a band whose guitarist had the same kind of sound-- I asked him what kind of overdrive he uses, he told me, and now I know what I want to buy once I've worked all summer (although maybe I will buy a cheap drumset instead, as I've always wanted to learn basic drum stuff.)

I will join with Dan, my brother North Carolinian, in appreciating "Crazy Rhythms."  Did you find a copy that has "Paint It Black" tacked on to the end?

The Feelies' "Only Life" (1988) pretty much got me through my last couple of years at college.  The Feelies, Vonnegut and Bob and Ray.  And cheap frozen pizzas you could buy for, like, 50 cents each.  That, and desperate hope.

Actual true fact: I live in a town called Carrboro.  But nobody gives us free cheese sandwiches, dammit.

I'm not sure - I've never seen the picture any larger than it is right now. Probably newspaper clippings or somesuch. I should probably just cut that part off. Actually, I probably shouldn't even use it, being it's someone else. I'll have to cogitate on this.
Here's a slightly larger version, in which you can see he's standing next to the words "JACK ABBIT." One might reasonably assume that at some point those words read "JACK RABBIT," although who knows.

I felt the need to research this because I thought that was Ray Charles.  Because, you know, black man with dark glasses.  And I'm a fan of Al Green, too.  I'll just be over here, wallowing in my unintentional ignorance.

I'm thinking about moving to Asheville after graduation, which is apparently a hippie mecca right now. It's a pretty neat little town, reminds me of my hometown (Lawrence, KS).
I grew up in that place.  Asheville.  It was not so much a hippie mecca 38 years ago, but I guess it is now.  I go back there maybe twice a year.  Asheville.  It's an okay place.  My family likes it.  None of this information is useful to you, I am sure.

The best part of the Wallet Pen's package design is the "TV" graphic, without any other contextualizing information.  Just kind of generally noting the existence of television.

I once saw an ad for some product in the Weekly World News with a similar graphic, which read "similar to those seen on TV."

2. Isn't Tom Petty blond?

I think what's happening here syntactically is that Molly is saying "Tom Petty" in answer to the question "Who was the only blond member of the Traveling Wilburys?"  She then lists the other Wilburys by way of contrast -- "all brunettes." (She leaves out Jeff Lynne.)

Note the period after "Tom Petty."  This tells us that it is not part of the list that follows, of the brunette Wilburys, all separated by commas.

I'm almost certain that what you've got there is, as you suspect, the Eagles.

Uh-oh! In "The Little Bride," the Muslim family is going... to the airport!

Dun-dun-dunnnnnnnn!

(beyond the definition here, she went on to explain the "rust" and where it comes from - needless to say, it's from the trombonist previously having had his can rocked by the trombone).
I would have thought that the "rust" was from the trombonist's mouth contacting the... "mouthpiece," as it were.  There certainly may be rust on the "slide" from previous can-rockin', but it wouldn't be necessary for your textbook Rusty Trombone, as recognized by the International Olympic Committee or other appropriate sanctioning body.

Much like the Paul Collins Beat/English Beat imbroglio of the early nineteen-eighties.

is Enormous c*ck the Davinci's Notebook song? That song is pretty great.
I saw three guys sing this in a karaoke bar once.  They did a pretty good job.  I got the feeling this was not the first time they had sung about their enormous c*ckes.

Interesting that there was no Medal of Excellence awarded by the Board of Regents this time last year.  Must be a biennial event.

All the years I worked at IBM, I knew the logo was reminding me of something.  I just didn't know it was "Barney Miller."  But it all makes perfect sense now.

Right here, for instance. Looks like Uncle George is Gramma K's brother.
