Nothing to do with BNL, but... I've been listening to Joseph Arthur's Even Tho about four times a day.  Think I need to pick up the album.

Wresting this thread back to the topic of actual music...

I got home from work on Sunday realizing that I had a 30 percent off coupon to Borders that would expire when the store closed in about three hours, so I went out in a panic and bought the first Barenaked Ladies I could lay my hands on.  Which was the greatest hits.

This is my my kind of thing.  They rock, but not too hard and not too relentlessly.  I don't like headbanging, but that Pandora.com sometimes seems to think that I like stuff that's awfully twee and folky.  God knows I've committed some pretty dang twee and folky stuff in my life, but it's really not what I am looking for.

I am a bit cross though that the CD booklet doesn't have the lyrics in it.  Yes, yes, I know, the internet...

Oh and Cort:  I'd rather have a llama or an emu.

You sent me a Roches CD and also Kate and Anna McGarrigle and Paul Simon.... I think Pandora might have you dead to rights.

This week's recommendation: Andrew Bird is a genius. He writes lyrics as one drinks water. I used to like Rufus Wainwright a lot, but haven't been following his work since... coupla years? Great voices, they have, and spectacularly structured songs..

I think that those (Roches, etc.) are folky but not twee.  All of them are not afraid to use instruments louder than acoustic guitars.

I don't have their hits but I do appreciate that they the title fits in with the lyrics of their song Box Set.

Also, if you like that then definitely buy Rock Spectacle, their live album as it's probably their best release period.

Neil Diamond is a dirty secret?  Fuck.

Yeah, it's totally news to me that one should be ashamed of liking Neil Diamond.

Also he just put out a new album.

Also, Jough, if you're reading this, after you recommended the newest Fiona Apple in some other thread somewhere, I checked out a couple of the tunes, loved them, and then a buddy I worked with mentioned that he considered it the best album of 2005, so picked up the CD just today.  I've listend to it 4 times already. It's great.

What, you knock Billy Joel and you're proud of Neil fuck*ng Diamond?  Puh-leeze.

Early Billy Joel is actually good.  What the hell the Neil Diamond ever do that wasn't terminally hokey?

Although I did hear a single off his new album the other day and kind of liked it.

You know I always read your posts, baby.

Yeah, I told you it was good and you didn't believe me.  Then your "buddy" mentions it and you rush out and buy it.  I know where I stand, I guess. Hurmph.

Waa?  I didn't knock Billy Joel!  I love Billy Joel!  I can sing all of "For the Longest Time" accapella (sp?), and "She's Always A Woman to Me" and "She's Got A Way About Her" are what I consider to be two of the most lovely songs ever written about the appreciation of women folk.

Also, jough, you were a major turning point in my no-longer hating Fiona Apple, who before you mentioned her, she was (to me) "that flaky girl with the nice voice who was all high at that awards show."  Also, my "buddy" was holding up the year end issue of Entertainment Weekly where they nominated it best album - my buddy also like "My Humps" by the BEP's so - his taste really doesn't have anything to do with it.  Also, I had the Death Cab for Cutie CD I mentioned earlier in this thread my bag today all ready to return it for something else, and as it happened Extraordinary Machine was the exact same price as the CD I was returning.  Also, Neil Diamond was playing in the music store as I walked in.  So you see, it all comes back to TOUAMB, and therefore you.

4 and 5 therefore 9
9 and 9 therefore 18
18 and 18 therefore 36
4 and 5 therefore 9

I have to agree.  When he was an angry young man, he wrote great songs.  Then he married Christie Brinkley, and it all went downhill.  I used to think that if he ever divorced her, he would write the greatest songs in the history of the world, but it didn't work out that way.  I suppose that once you've nailed a supermodel, your life can't ever be all that bad.

See, it's a little known fact to most men that supermodels have vacuous pu$$ys.  If you fuck a supermodel all that is of value about you will be leeched out through your sperm.  It's how supermodels stay beautiful.  Their vacuum pu$$ys suck up everything that is good and beautiful from other people.  The phenomenon explained in the Liz Phair song "Hot White Cum"

Lyrics for H.W.C. posted here because they are awesome:

Give it to me, don't give it away
Don't think about what the others say
My skins getting clear, my hairs so bright
All you do is fuck me every day and night

You're my secret beauty routine
Na, na, na, na, what my body has seen
I am lookin' good and I'm feeling nice
Baby you're the best magazine advice

Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum

I'm gonna pull you back down between the sheets
Everything is fresher when the day is sweet
In the morning light when you're already on the phone

Face it, one of these days
Without you I'm just another Dorian Gray
It's the fountain of youth
It's the meaning of life
So hot, so sweet, so WHET my appetite

Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum

Face it, one of these days
Without you I'm just another Dorian Gray
It's the fountain of youth
It's the meaning of life
Baby you're the best magazine advice

Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Gimme your hot white cum
Your hot white cum

(ha, ha - spell check doesn't recognize "pu$$ys" and wants to correct it to "pu$$y"  - this board can't take multiple lady parts.  This isn't a good sign!)

I'll give Billy Joel all the respect as a songwriter ;he deserves, but did he write "My Love Ain't Free"?

No sir, he did not.

Yesterday, I recognized some Liz Phair lyrics in a Neal Pollack post. I think my honorary diamond-studded pu$$y is in the mail.

p.s. I really like..."H.W.C."
THE SONG!
