Buy some Chinese cigarettes and try smoking them, the cheaper the better.

You'll quit alright.

Godspeed and of COURSE we want to see photos of you and China.  Are you kidding?

Also, you seem like good people, so there's no reason not to feel at home here.

ALSO: Do I see from your myspace site that you're from/living in Philadelphia?

We should do a Philly meetup at some point, just to make the others jealous.

Weigh in Report
« Reply #392 on: July 06, 2006, 08:26:24 pm »

I lost .6 pounds at my weekly weigh in last night.  It's a little bit of a disapointment, but at least it's in the loss column.  I ate too much last Saturday and I didn't get as much exercise as I would like.  I was turned away from the pool on two occassians.  Once because they were showing a movie for the kids in the pool room and another time because they were cleaning feces out of the pool.  I really wish they would have told me that before I got in the pool.  Yuck.  Anyway, a loss is better than a gain.  I'll make up the slack this next week.  Still 5.8 pounds to go to get back to virgin weight loss.

Not surprisingly, gained a pound and a half this week.  Although I lost a pound from the day before weighing myself this morning.  I mean, a pint of water weighs a pound, so if you pee a pint you can lose a pound just like that.

As always one should be careful going by weight alone.  Muscle weighs more.  Do you feel better jough?  Well...  DO YOU?!

So I guess I shouldn't be too upset by the fact that I gained 1.5 pounds, since I've been running 2.5 miles a few times a week (usually).

I don't think you should be upset by pretty much any poundage you may put on until you weigh at least as much as a small child first.

Quite. I have broken the ten stone mark! That is, around 140 lbs. For someone who is 6'4. I've always been in like, the first percentile of my height/weight ratio, and was down to about 8 stone a couple of years back. That after once making it to 11.

I have been working out more, so I don't worry too much about actual weight.

One plus or minus, depending on how you look at it - my suit is too big for me.  Like, it looks like David Byrne in that Talking Heads video.

I went to my morning interview in just a shirt and tie (and trousers, kids - just no suit jacket).  I guess it went over okay, since they made me an offer on the spot and the interview only lasted about a half an hour, with me asking most of the questions.

I have another interview this afternoon and hopefully my suit will be ready by then.  Of course, if I don't get a job because I'm not wearing a suit I'm not sure I'd want to work at the place anyway.  They either want me or not.

Anyway, I haven't interviewed for a job job (other than meeting with prospective clients) in a few years now.  I'm finding myself being extremely casual and not overselling myself.  Or at least trying not to.  Now I'm doing four interviews in one week and will hopefully have at least two offers to consider over the next two weeks.  The concern so far seems to be "Can the bohemian freelancer fit into a company team atmosphere?"  I think so.  With my Major Life Changes I'm thinking about The Future and I'd like to be managing projects rather than slinging code, so it seems appropriate to work for a company larger than my own if I want to manage projects and a team of developers.

Someone asked me this morning if I considered taking a job after starting my own business as a defeat.

I do not.  I'm actually looking forward to the prospect.  And doing one thing and getting deep with it for the full work week rather than splitting my time between the 51,482 tasks you have to do as a business owner will seem almost like vacation.

Plus, I am finding that I need more human interaction outside of dating and internet message boards.  It's nice to be talking with peers.

I am Superman and I can do anything.

I'm not sure I have exact 1:1 peers, as my interests are varied and I have knowledge and experience in several disparate areas (English lit, Web Design, Philosophy, Chess) but of course only one of those at a time ever matters for an interview, unless I'm designing a web site for the literary philosophy of chess or something.

Anyway, second interview of the day - two more next week.  I'm not really shotgunning - I already know where I want to work I think - but I'm keeping my options open as I figure one or another will come through with a good offer.  Not that money is necessarily the most important thing, but of course, it helps.
