Look, either Life Is Sacred or it's not. So if you fuck*ng hunt and kill animals, or if you eat animals that have already been cut up for you and are purchased in a climate-controlled store, you're participating in death and murder, hence being a huge fuck*ng hypocrite. I find it amusing that they think that killing and eating living beings is a-ok (pigs have intelligence similar to a 3-year old human, for example)...

So is it only cute animals that have sacred life? What about bacteria, or ants, or cockroaches, or rats, or beets?
How can one arbitrarily draw a line at what living thing is sacred and what is not?
Can it be simply understood that there is a very clear division between the life of a human the life of a beet? I'm just saying it is not necessarily hypocritical to eat animal and believe human life is sacred. The fine area of the debate, for me, is when exactly "human life begins". As a pro-choice male, I still struggle to justify to myself drawing some artificial line at the third trimester or day before birth or day of conception as to when its "ok" to terminate. What I don't struggle with is knowing that I don't have lady parts and therefore have very little to say about what happens in or around them.

As a pro-choice male and the father of two teenaged daughters, I have to say that over the past few emotionally trying weeks, I've begun to favor allowing abortion until the 80th trimester.

Yay abortion!  Anyway.  Back to the subject at hand, which is playing records backwards.

So, you know the song "On Earth My Nina" by they might be giants?  The story, for those who don't:

Eight years ago, tmbg released an album online.  One of the tracks, called "On Earth My Nina," consists entirely of a voice singing backwards, unaccompanied.  As you listen to this track repeatedly -- which you do if you're a teenaged me -- it grows on you.  It becomes haunting and mysterious, and you start to imagine that the backwards words are forwards words, and that they make sense.

Tmbg explained at the time that they had written a song called "Thunderbird," and played it backwards.  They liked it backwards better than forwards, and so they listened to the backwards recording repeatedly until they could mimic it with their voices, and then recorded this mimicry.  "Hmm, the original must not have been a very good song," I thought, "But I'm glad they found a way to turn it into something cool."

Five years later they released another album, and one song on it in particular caught my attention.  It was very catchy, with cryptic lyrics seemingly about an addiction to some kind of transcendent experience.  It quickly became my favorite song on the album, perhaps one of my all time favorites.  This song was Thunderbird.

So, next time you wonder whether tmbg have sold out, remember:  They wrote a hit, and sat on it five years, just to let the backwards version really sink in.

In conclusion:  Thunderbird/OEMN is the only song I know which is a song both backwards and forwards, and so it should be encoded on any single lane, two way streets in Ray's vision.

Also:  I think I am getting second-hand stoned just from parsing the rhyme scheme in Nightlife's poem.  Man.

on that note, the song-road-coding deal reminded me of this article i read once where someone came up with the idea to put a record needle type device onto some way old pottery. on some of the pots they discovered that somehow something had been rubbing against the pot while it was being molded, and recorded the vibrations at the time. The result was a recording of people talking and laughing at the time the ancient pottery was being made. Eerie.

Holy shit: has anyone else noticed that Cornelius is rocking the ganj?

So is it only cute animals that have sacred life? What about bacteria, or ants, or cockroaches, or rats, or beets?
How can one arbitrarily draw a line at what living thing is sacred and what is not?
Can it be simply understood that there is a very clear division between the life of a human the life of a beet? What I don't struggle with is knowing that I don't have lady parts and therefore have very little to say about what happens in or around them.

Technically speaking, if you justify humanity on anything reasonable - something that doesn't entitle ancephalic fetuses or the braindead to legal protection from termination - the level of brain activity which would qualify isn't present anywhere except in potentia until about, oh, 6 months after birth.

The only reason we get our panties in a bunch about infanticide is because we're programmed in the dumb hairless ape part of our brains to consider children cute (as opposed to the three other preprogrammed states: sex, food, and run) well before they're worth according with the dignity of a human being.

For perspective, it is literally biologically impossible for a human being to remember anything that actually happened before they were 18 months old. (Hypnotic regression to infancy, re-birthing, and especially 'past lives' are hilarious to me, knowing this. (That people have been put in jail because of 'recovered' infant molestation memories, that the idea of reincarnation basically kept the caste system alive and billions of human beings in rags in India for millenia, and that a young girl in Colorado died of strangulation while being crushed to death under a 'womb-simulating' blanket by her well-meaning parents and a couple of fraud therapists does kind of ruin the humor.)) I am not sure why I know this, but I do. I can look for a source for you if you like.

I'm not saying kill your baby with a tack hammer, but next time you hear about infanticide in some famine-stricken country don't be too fast to shout away the devil's advocates saying how otherwise the grown children are gonna starve. And pretty much any line in the sand as to where abortion becomes OK is arbitrary, unless you really find fetuses adorable.

That was on a Mythbusters episode.  Did you know they're not gay?

Don't want to see the episode where they test that one.

Let's not get into this, though.

What the hell people how did this thread get onto these topics?

I totally disagree. I want to see the episode where they prove they're not gay.

Yeah a Mythbusters where they prove they're not gay would be so awesome - they'd be all standing in a bulletproof box, firing dildos at a ballistics-gel ass.  "Nothing?"  "Nothing."  "Okay, well, I call this Myth busted!"

Also, a highway that played music to determine speed would definitely work for me.  The song I'm listening to is directly related to whether I am in "relaxed Sunday drive" mode or "get the fuck out of my way, I'm tryin' to get somewhere" mode.

Also, yes, lets not do the abortion thing.  If anyone really wants to beat a dead dog, please search and post to any of the way-too many-already threads where it's debated.  This strip has nothing to do with fetuses people - unless hairless Elvis is in an un-born state...

The funny thing about the highway music thing is that this is an idea that I've had for a while.

"You know, you could vary the depth and spacing of those strips so that it would make a recognizable sound rather than a constant tone, maybe a baritone voice telling the car to "slooow doooown."  I don't think you could get the kind of fidelity of information to get a recognizable song in there, plus you're going to get a delay-pedal effect when your back tires roll over the same strip.  The pitch and tenor of the message is going to be affected by how fast you're going (if the strip is really intended for you, you'd get a Tod the Squirrel squeeking *slow down!* in echo) and if you're going the wrong way you'd get a "nwod wools" which would probably freak you out pretty bad if you were in whatever mental state is making you go the wrong damn way down the road, you moron.

Anyway, this is an idea I've had for like, ever, and won't ever shut up about, so it's funny to see it repeated somewhere else.  That it is repeated by a stoned talking cat... I don't know what that says about me or my ideas in general.

I think I saw this on The X-Files once as well. A clay pot or something that was being spun recorded Jesus raising Lazarus. When played back you get zombies!

Although high speed dildos fired at ballistics-gel asses would be entertaining I think it's not necessary. They hired Kari, therefore they straight or at least bi.

I believe that TMBG has never actually released a song with legitmate backwards singing. It's always them imitating singing backwards. So if you were to play Subliminal backwards you still wouldn't be able to understand what they were saying.

They also put her in a body suit w/ visible thong in her first appearance. Although I don't recall how much they were looking at her.

We never have seen their wives. And Adam was single when the show started.

What about when Adam was playing with the fake breasts and falsies?
