The Silver Jews are Stephen Malkamus' (Pavement) first band.  He is still a member, although they are getting old, so who knows if they are still planning anything, etc.  He doesn't write the songs or sing.  The other dude, it turns out, is a different but at least equally talented songwriter, and if singing is decent I don't complain (raised on Dylan).

No shit? I had no idea this was going on. I'll have to check this out forthwith, posthaste.

Niggling nitpick: Was that a typo? It's Malkmus with one 'a'.

No, I just haven't ever really seen his name spelled, and have maybe been mispronouncing it.

And just so you know, it is not really a Malkmus band, just his first and a side project he probably doesn't have to spend that much time on.

On the off-chance that you have an eMusic account they have 5 albums and an EP there. Not to mention an AMG write-up that's like 2 pages with no paragraph breaks for some reason.

Did Keith really just say that he has never seen the spelling of the name of a member of one of his current favorite bands? But why isn't it right there on the cover of the CD....  OMG, I am so old, right?

Some people . . . don't purchase their music at brick-and-mortar CD shops. Also, if he is on a songwriter for them, it's just possible that his name is buried in the fine print. We aren't talking about an LP where you can spend hours re-reading it after you clean your weed.

Actually, the other day I expressed the wish that I could buy a couple of things and put them directly on my mp3 player instead of having to buy a cd, copy it to the computer, and then copy it to the device.

But, I wanted to do this because they were things I had already owned on LPs and didn't feel like I needed another physical copy of.  And, I couldn't figure out how to do it. So I am still so old.

I never knew Malkmus was involved with Silver Jews.

I have actually never bought a Pavement record.  I did have to steal them the old fashion way though, the CD-R.  Back when everyone in your group had most of the same cd's and everyone had about 1/4 that were bought and all others copied.

And, while Malkmus is a member of one of my current bands, he is not really an important part, as I was trying to say.  I don't even know the main dudes name, just know I like his tunes.  I think his first name is Steve from some of the songs.  Music reviewers are as shitty as msm reporters.  I don't need their shit, and I don't need heroes.  I need anonymous people making amazing music, because that is what I listen to.

But yeah, I should have known how to spell his name.  He is pretty big time.  Plus I have a solo album of his that I have never listened to on iTunes.  So I have at least glanced at his name, but it was one of those things were I guess I thought I knew how to spell it (I have been pronouncing his name Malk-A-mus, stress on the middle A since I was like 15.  Probably never said it more than ten times though)  so never really paid attention.

Do you mean that you have one you haven't listened to, but you've listened to the others, or that you only have one and you haven't listened to it? Because both Stephen Malkmus and Pig Lib are fuck*ng great. I just got Face the Truth so I'm not sure where I am at with that. I think fondly of Stephen Malkmus because Jeffrey Rowland turned me on to him.

I have one and have never listened.  I will check it out.

Edit:  His name isn't Steve, but Malkmus' is.  Duh.

I say the first syllable of his last name like 'mall' and my friend says it like mal(nutrition). He also pronounces the nonexistent 'a' in the middle.

I thought I read an interview where he said it kinda rhymed with "walrus" but Google was being a little bitch and not helping me find it today.
