also: today I find out that at least 2 of my 3 roommates thought that "Higher Ground" was originally by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and are confused when I play the Stevie Wonder version.
See, this is another side effect of the demise of albums.  The Chili Peppers totally gave credit to Stevie for that one, but who reads the sleeve of a CD?  Or whatever documentation comes with an MP3 download?

p.s. I love their version.

I still read all my CD booklets and I do not buy mp3s but... we have already established that I am prematurely old. I do not even know how to crunk. I... am not even exactly sure what crunking is. It may have something to do with ghost-riding whips but...

All I know for that is Ghost Rider's enchanted flaming chainlink whip.

I am prematurely old AND a nerd.

I'm always disappointed by the lack of good liner notes on most albums, or at least most of the ones I see. If the internet and blogs and viral marketing etc. has proved anything it's that people love to get into the heads of people who created something we enjoy and liner notes are a lovely way to do this.

I cannot tell if you are kidding.
being "crunk" means to be drunk.

unless there is another usage of which I am unaware. ghost-riding the whip is a hyphy thing, but getting Crunk is a pretty universal rap thing at this point I think.

I'm-a stay up too late then get up too early and fly to Nashville, then immediately drive to Birmingham because my family changed plans after I bought plane tickets.

On the other hand, I bought Sim City DS today, so I have INFINITE REPLAYABILITY as long as my battery holds out.

Later I will try to convince my dad that we don't need to go to a restaurant with a dress code to get a good meal.  He seems to have trouble with this idea from time to time.

The mention of German, guinea pig, the Hudson and Holocaust (but not the one we normally think of) in the same sentence is somewhat discombobulating for me.  For some reason I'm imagining you in an SS uniform, stroking your guinea pig in that way only villains do, on a train, muttering about how the turkey's are an inferior race.

Today I'm gonna work my ass off, and possibly see the Darjeeling Unlimited.

oh man! Darjeeling Ltd! Maybe one of my friends here has not seen it yet.
I am worried that I'll hate it and have to seriously reconsider my priorities. I am starting to think that watching black and white Italian films every week since the end of August has fucked up my sense of what a Good movie is.

Today I am cleaning the shit out of my rooms and bathroom. In the house that I rent, I have my cats confined to three large rooms - essentially two bedrooms that share a Jack & Jill bath, as the realtors like to say. It is bigger than my entire apartment in Alaska, and Lenny loves to gallop along the length of the three rooms. The Problem is that my roommate's parents, sister, and brother-in-law are all coming for Thanksgiving. The parents will stay in the guest bedroom, but the only other place to sleep is in the fold-out sofa in one of my rooms (my "office").

So basically I am scouring the office and trying to clear out all my mail and back issues of The Economist, Wired, and Architectural Digest so the sister and brother-in-law will have someplace to sleep. I also have to deep-clean the bathroom and remove the nine gazillion beauty products that I don't use on a regular basis so that the sister and brother-in-law will have someplace to put their toothbrushes. This also means that Milan and Lennybruce will be cooped up in my bedroom only, a 2/3 reduction in their habitat fachrissakes, for the duration of the relatives' stay. I don't want to sound like a selgiraffe asshole, but I secretly hope they only stay one night. Wait - is it a secret if I say it out loud on the internets?

I need my own place.

The other Bad Thing is that both the parents and the sister/brother-in-law each have dogs. So while my little dudes have gotten used to the parents' dog sniffing at them from beneath the door, now they will have to contend with TWO dogs and four extra humans in the house. I feel bad for the little guys, but they will do fine.

today I woke up at 11, ate, played Mass Effect, somehow wasted the rest of the day (not playing the game... I'm not really sure what I did?), ate dinner, uploaded a ton of pictures from my mom's camera. Now I am waiting for my best friend who I haven't seen in something like 4 months to come over. He goes to the Air Force Academy, and is rad.

Maybe this will help keep them happy?

Today I got up at 6:30AM and went with my sister and her boyfriend to this fabled beer warehouse in the industrial sector. We got a huge haul of bottled beer for $30. I think we got at least 60 bottles. They are a bev distributor, so they sell off all the damaged cases and beers that are nearing their expiry date. The place was filled with a bunch of unsavory types, so we just got our beer and got the hell out.

Today I'm gonna have another Thanksgiving dinner with my roommate and his family. Tomorrow I'm going to visit my mom and have Thanksgiving dinner with her! Crazy. That's a lot of turkey.

As I type this, sitting in my bedroom instead of my office (roommate's family is camped out on my fold-out sofa in my office), I felt two small paws on my shoulders. Lenny was standing on the bed with his back legs, and resting his front paws on my shoulders, trying to get my attention for some petties. Cuuuuute!

today, Gary Kasparov was arrested during protest about the upcoming parliamentary elections. he was knocked to the ground and beaten before being handcuffed and led off. The charges are resisting arrest and organizing an unauthorized protest.
awesome.

today I am going to try to fit in too many different things which I told myself I'd do while I am in Charlotte. Go to the Penguin for a burger and sweet potato fries, see all my old Theater kids who are Dramatic about Everything friends, see all my old Smart Kids who are Good at Stuff and Work Hard friends, go to Best Buy, clean my room, organize which clothes I'm bringing back to school...

I think it was you who posted the link to the video of him on facebook? What a guy, he certainly kicks the ass out of any US politician Ive ever heard. I feel as though if he were to show up to one of the debates the conversation would be elevated so high that the other candidates would have to forfeit.
