I have had a velcro cloth wallet for, oh, 4 years?  I got it for a dollar from a thrift store.

SS, I also never wear clothes with labels.  The only shirt I have with a label is a Liverpool kit.  The only other thing I have that is easy to tell who makes it is Converses, and, well, I only wear those because they are the only non leather shoes I could find that were not ridiculously priced.  Perhaps that is why I said shoes earlier, I would love some quality leather shoes, but don't think I want to do that.  Right now the only animal products I use that result in death of animal is my two belts, which I have also had for like 5 years and don't really see the point in replacing as long as they are still working.  On the other hand, a lot of people eating meat creates probably so much leather?  whatever.

Also, though LFM, sometimes I drive for like 30 hours with my wallet in and it hurts, also purses can store loads of shit.

Oh, L, meds are good.  These days I <3 meds.  Being well is the most important thing.  There ain't nothing wrong with having opinions and feelings, but if you feel like your getting fractured, don't wait until you get to a bad place.  Anyone who's been there before don't want to go back again.

Keith - I keep finding out we have more in common each day.  I have kick ass shoes, and never buy crap shoes - as a result I buy few shoes but really good ones.  They last so much longer that it's worth it.  None of them are designer labels, but shoes known for quality.

The bag that I want has really great design and no blatant exterior logos. I think it'd be different if I was wearing knockoff stuff like fake Louis Vuitton or fake Tiffany - that is blatantly about the brand. There are probably only a handful of other Coach aficionadas who would even recognize it as Coach.

Incidentally, a lot of the people on the Frugality boards constantly bitch about Coach and seem to use it as a barometer of sorts for Everything That's Wrong With Society. I think that a lot of folks in this country feel about Coach the way many Britons feel about Burberry - knockoffs are worn everywhere by irritating chavs who think they're being high-class by touting the instantly-recognizable Burberry plaid, whether authentic or not. I see nothing wrong with wanting something that is high-quality, of lasting value, and will have use for many years to come. My travels and searches in many stores elsewhere have not yielded anything of similar quality.

I have kick ass shoes, and never buy crap shoes - as a result I buy few shoes but really good ones.  They last so much longer that it's worth it.  None of them are designer labels, but shoes known for quality.

I feel the same way. I'd rather have one well-made handbag - which is a piece of luggage that I use 365 days a year - rather than a bunch of crappy ones that you can get at Ross or Payless for $30 each.  I also have about six pairs of shoes total.

**EDIT: Thanks Keith. Meant to link to a damn Achewood strip.

You're smart enough to make the right decision for yourself. It's OK to have a list of things you need and a list things you want. It's just important to be sure that the appropriate things are on each list and that you prioritize well. I'm not saying you can't ever have the bag. It just may not be the right thing right now.

You know yourself pretty well and you set some great goals for yourself in the 2008 thread. Do what you need to maximize all the aspects of wellness in your life and everything else kind of works itself into place.

Review:

Emotional
Intellectual
Social
Physical
Spiritual
Vocational

are the aspects of the wellness matrix. They all impact your life, they all require maintenance, or service occasionally and it's important to pay attention to all of them and to promptly work on the ones that are out of balance and affecting your life.

Me too. I need to seriously overhaul my Vocational life, seriously catch up on some deferred maintenance in my Physical life, maintain my Social life well, especially after my family ships out (This will also require attention to the Emotional life), make sure I don't neglect my Spiritual life (large part of Social, too,  probably) and maintain my "lifetime learner" status by keeping up with reading, stimulating conversation, maybe a class.

This model of wellness really works for me, and I've introduced it to people who didn't approach their wellness holistically - it's not piecemeal. A full, rich life is complex and generally includes all these aspects. Lots of them respond to it well because it's fairly intuitive.

That is a pdf to a condo in Aurora.

Also, but do hand bags break a lot or are they the most important thing as far as your future health goes, as shoes are?  (alright the first question was honest, the second was asshole-ish, sorry.)  I am not frugal, I make about 1.25 big technology purchases a year, but maybe people just think that because you could, as Side Show said, go to a local leather worker, or go to a shop that isn't ross or payless, but doesn't have HAND BAGS THAT COST AS MUCH AS 3-4 MONTHS WORTH OF FOOD.

The thing I think about lots of times is that lots of people cost themselves shit tons of stress and hard work, just so they can buy things they don't need.  Then they call others lazy.  I may be lazy I guess, but at least I am not a fool.

Our priorities are all different.

When we have money, we all blow it on stuff that other people can't understand.

I can't conceive of spending that sort of money on a purse, or say, $30,000 on a car.  But I know that I spend money on crap that's important to me but would boggle most folks minds.

Don't be ashamed about liking what you like Linnea.  On the other hand, don't spend too much time coveting stuff that you can't realistically acquire.  Next year...

Okay, so, today I call them to find out how much my ticket is.  It will either be 144 or 244, I am pretty sure, and I can just mail them some money.  Or, if I do decide to go to court and if this is anything like the possession of marijuana thing, you just talk to the prosecutor before court and then you get to have a 6 month deferred sentence and in this case a reduced fine.  I may do that, but really, I may want to be in San Fransisco in two months, and it will just be like a 20-40 dollar reduction and a shit load of work.

Now, on the other hand, I do not think it should cost you 144 (I think) to have 30 people over at your house.  I think that is a bad thing, especially as this is the only personnel party I had in my 4 1/2 years in school, 6 months were I am living now.  I just fuck*ng graduated, can you not have one night of people over?  Seriously, there have not been more than five people in my house at one time since I lived there, until Sat.  The police did lie to me, as far as the 50 ft, but they were standing about 20 ft away thing.  They said they could hear car doors shutting from 50 ft away, but c'mon, that is ridiculous.  Basically it has nothing to do with money, but if I am just going to go through some shit and lose, that is lame.  If I have a chance at all, I would like to fight it on principle.  Basically I am still really mad, but this time I am not super drunk.  It is just my roommates and my word against two police.  Both of us have had separate Big issues with local police and drugs (beyond simple possession), and I guess that might be a thing.  Can I get a jury trial on this?

Oh, and hey Linnea, looks like I will pay about 300 for a 3 hour party followed by five hours of pissed of drunkenness and a huge surplus of beer.  That is so much dumber than any purse could ever be.

I guess I was more tired than I thought after staying up all night multiple nights last week. Yesterday I woke up at 6 AM, hung out with my family until like 3 PM, slept for 3 hours, then went out and hung out around town until 10 or so. Watched Futurama until 2 AM, then slept for 13 hours.

What the fuck do I buy my family for Christmas? I know that my brother said something that gave me an idea, but now I forget what it was.

... have my housemate's budgie put down.
Dude got the budgie a few weeks after we moved into our new place and got a cat less than a week ago. The cat's bee stalking the budgie's cage but we've been fairly vigilant. This morning however the Lady and I awoke to find that my friend had hung the cage from a curtain rail before he went to work to keep it away from the cat, it seems he either didn't close the door properly or either the cat or the bird opened it, the result being a hallway filled with smug cat and injured budgie.
Poor thing had bites through a wing a leg and it's chest. We took it to the vet and they said they had a specialist that could take a look but it was gonna be hell of pricey and the outlook was not good so I called my buddy at work and we agreed to have the poor guy gassed.

UM.

my prof sent me back my paper, without any comments. The email reads
Quote
here are some quick comments... didn't finish the whole thing. If you
need a day or two, let me know.

And I can't tell if he's being informal, and saying "here are my comments so far, I have not finished reading it"
or telling me that the paper is incomplete. I think that it is done. I think that it is a good paper.

I think he means he didn't finish reading it and he wants to know if you need a couple more days to correct the things he mentioned.
Deep breaths man.
