Bikram yoga is not for the faint of heart.  Though I can't think of any way to really ease into it...maybe start with a month of Ashtanga?

No shit!

I liked it.  My sister-in-law took me while we were in St Louis over the weekend.  But it's not really an option for me to continue with it.  I'm too far away from a place to do it regularly, so it's Ashtanga at the gym for me.  Also, it's $17 per class.  Ouch.

Tomorrow I have a grand jury thing because of that guy who put a gun in my face and tried to boost my ride. While philsophicaly opposed to the grand jury system, I have to go and not commit perjury or something. Tomorrow I will not commit perjury.

Oooh, I've always wanted to take a Bikram yoga class. It sounds like it's really good for you. However, I doubt that I will ever take a yoga class, because I am extremely self conscious.

Anyway, today I got real license plates for my car. I was going to get some Italian Heritage plates, but they're sponsored by the Sons of Italy and I don't want my car to get nailed by anti-Columbus Day people. I know nothing about the Sons of Italy Fraternal Organization other than some of their members have tried to keep the Columbus Day parade going, even though the Columbus supporters have been drastically outnumbered by protesters in recent years. I don't get how they equate Columbus with Italian Heritage, since he was sailing for the Queen of Spain. Whatever.

Oh, the plain-Jane plates ran me fuck*ng $422. If I had gotten the special Italian plates it woulda been $482, so I guess I should count my blessings and use the other sixty bucks towards food or cat-soothing room diffusers.

Yeah, you guys know me too well. I spent $43 on the Feliway diffuser at Petsmart instead of buying groceries for myself. The little boys seem a lot calmer. I can't wait to move into my own place.

Damn, good luck with that. Maybe drink some chamomile tea before you go?

Why are you philosophically opposed to the grand jury system?  I have some (OK, many) concerns about how it's actually implemented, but I'm OK with the theory of the grand jury.

You shouldn't let that stop you.  That's been one of the nicest things about my yoga experience.  Everybody -- teachers and fellow students -- has been extremely welcoming, forgiving and encouraging, despite the fact that I'm a big fat clumsy sweaty slob.  Yoga has been the least judgmental exercise community I've ever experienced.  Go!

Although I don't know if I'd recommend Bikram as your very first class.

The grand jury, as i understand it, is the proseuctor and his choice witnesses making a one sided argument against the accused. The accused and those who might even say good things about him are not given the chance to talk. And if that isnt enough, the prosecutor can throw this at as many grand juries as it takes to get it to pass. So whats the point? The prosecutor is going to get his way if he wants it, so lets just have the pre-trial hearing and move this shit to trial or bargain.

Well, those are pretty much the same concerns I have about how the grand jury system is actually implemented.  I wouldn't call those philosophical concerns.  The philosophy behind the grand jury system is that it allows a jury of ones peers to determine if there is at least some sufficient evidence to go forward with a prosecution.  The difficulty is that prosecutors can get a grand jury to "indict a ham sandwich".

Anyway...

There are about sixteen things I want to respond to, but I'll leave all the rest alone in favor of this:

arachnocapitalist, for all the hard times we give you, we all like you a lot and would miss you if you went away.  Please do not go away.  Also, I think that you have made some very difficult but very wise decisions lately, and I hope you don't second-guess yourself.  I'm sure anyone here would be thrilled to talk to you any time about your Problems if you think it would help.  Please find someone to talk to, we want you to feel better.

Thanks JL.

Today I was ordered, under threat of arrest, by the state of New Jersey to appear in a court room to tell a story I have already told (on DVD no less).  Like something out of a Russian novel, I was moved from government building to government building for 30 minutes, then told to sit in a room with a dozen police officers for two hours. Then I was told to go home. No business was conducted. The officers were paid over-time. One day, in the indefinite future, I will be asked to come back and do this again.
What scares me is that this is characteristic of my encounters with government.

did you get to do a real-life endless loop where you had to in a big circle to various desks/offices, each one telling you that you're at the wrong one?
Those are my favorite. In my experience, that happens most often when getting a new School ID, but I'm sure it happens even more frequently out in the real world.

Did you successfully not commit perjury?

I decided that that would be my goal today too, but it was much easier for me.
