This is so obviously the correct explanation that I'm not even going to bother posting mine.

Because the ichthyologists are just more sensitive.

Today I'm going to hit the button on the vending machine and get peanut butter crackers, instead of the peanut butter sandwich cookies I had been expecting.

Fuck-words!

Upon inspection, The bags are almost identical, and they are living in the same slot on the vending machine.  Two more purchasers of Peanut Butter Crackers, and suddenly the machine will switch to Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies.

today I think I might buzz my hair, as it will solve a lot of problems (no need for haircuts over the summer when working at a summer camp, won't get as greasy, won't have to brush it, makes my face/head look better because when my hair is long it gets really poofy, keeps me from pulling out my hair). Also, tonight I will study Statistics and wait anxiously for the email telling me what position I've been given at the radio station next year.

I am stressing out about this because my future roommate, one of my best friends, is general manager for next year and gets to pick who fills various positions at the station. He is a very hard-working guy, and has very high standards for things and... I really think that he thinks that I do a bad job. I hate to feel like I am only getting the job because I'm his roommate, you know? I was on the verge of going and telling him I didn't want the job if it meant that someone more qualified would get passed over, but my friends argued that I deserve it because I have more experience, and it is really rare for someone to not get their old position unless they really screwed stuff up. The issue is that the stuff that is visible about my job is the stuff that I'm bad at-- namely, reviewing tons and tons of CDs very quickly. I am horrible at doing this, and the other music director right now is fantastic at it.
At this point I am pretty sure I am getting the job, but it makes me upset that some potentially better younger kids are going to get cruddy jobs/no jobs because of who my roommate is. Some of the freshmen going for the position are dedicated as hell, know more about new music than I do, and do hell of great CD reviews.
Although, at the same time, some of my friends have pointed out that this kid is enough of a hardass that he wouldn't give me the job if he thought someone else would really be better, and would totally expect me to suck it up for the good of the station. Which... I could handle, I guess, as long as he doesn't give me some really shitty sinecure-type job and then expect me to train my replacement.

Dude, don't pass up opportunity just because you don't "deserve it". You've got it... all you owe anyone is taking that opportunity and running with it, not undermining it because you're dealing with counterproductive guilt.

Also, remember... if you ever really need to judge CDs quickly, just send me the names and I'll come up with a series of empassioned snap judgements based on very limited knowledge. It is kinda what I'm best at.

yeah, I am pretty good at that too. The problem is that I have to such as explain what the band sounds like, and say which tracks are best.

Really my fear is based on when I look at reviews of albums I completely love, and it is all "really horrible, don't ever play this" and I think... in the future, some kid is going to read that I called The YMD "worthless white-boy-rap garbage, play if you like obnoxious yelling and references to early-90's indie rock" and think I'm an asshole.
Maybe that's a bad example. It's more likely that someone will read a review where I said something was cool, and they'll listen and think it's derivative crap. Which I find less problematic. I find music really distracting when I'm working, which means I need to set aside time for listening to CDs that I know I won't like. Instead of, you know, listening to "The World is a Ghetto" again. He would prefer to listen to old funk records than to listen to shitty (or even moderately good) new bands, as well. His comment on this was "well... yeah. That's why I didn't apply to be Music Director."

I mean, I will make myself feel better about this by working real hard at this next year. The real problem is that I don't trust myself to follow through on things.

I had actually wanted some TSP, but the machine appeared to be out.

Ah, you make my heart go a-twitter.  Canned.

Also, yesterday I bought TSP, for it's actual purpose, washing off paint stripper.  It comes in a little carton, like cream, which is nice.  But it also says "Warning!  Irritant!"  Which really should be posted on the front of all non-foods based foodstuffs, and before every episode of that ungodly Ghost Whisperer show.  I mean, have you seen how ornery an eight year old can get after one too many packaged cookie treat? Or come by my house when I can't find the remote and Jennifer Love Hewett is on the screen?  What I'm telling you smick, is that you can pick up your TSP at the hardware store and sprinkle it on your snacks for that tasty flavour.
