As opposed to MY favourite David Copperfield quote:

"Holy shit, the Statue of Liberty disappeared and bitches be all up ons me!"

(yes, in my head he talks like a gangsta, I don't know why)

"Arrived at WHATEVER A-CAP'S LOCATION IS"

We have already established this: Deadly Sins 8-14.

Today (tonight) I am going to get sentimental about a car. Last week I got sleepy driving my 1990 4Runner and smacked the rear end into a wooden post on the highway. I did enough damage to it that the insurance company decided that it is worth more to them to scrap it than to fix it, although it is completely drive-able. I have had this car for about 2.5 years now, I was the second owner, and it has served me well. I had to replace the clutch, but it is over 18 years old. I have made mistakes in this car, cried in this car, exulted and commiserated in my little white 4Runner. And I'm going to miss it.

A guy down the street is selling a '93 4Runner for cheap, and I'm going to buy it. But it won't be the same.

lately I am just in the most awesome place. It is like... the "daniel will overreact to things and let them overwhelm him" switch got turned off. I am letting some schoolwork slide, but when it is time to catch up I catch up, and at this point I have really really good grades. No late-night freakouts, no guilt over being behind... I just do the work. My room is a mess, and I am OK with the fact that I'll just wait until friday to clean it up. I am thinking lately about taking on a second major, as I figured out that it would only be 2 classes for each of the next 3 semesters, and that is pretty minor, and it would be so cool to have such a complicated list of majors (major in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology with a focus in Linguistics, 2nd major in Anthropology... way too complicated, to the point of hilarity.)
I am in a Lady Situation where... I spend a lot of time talking to my friends about how unfortunate and awkward it is, but it is like I am just going through the motions of being worried.
To the point that maybe I actually should be a little more worried about some of these things. Such as the complicated lady situation where there is a lot of potential for me to come out looking like a horrible asshole. Maybe.

We eat pretty great food most days, and for some reason my inclination is to say that this is what makes the difference. My diet is no longer based on fat and sugar.
Or, it might be related to the fact that lately I am sleeping ridiculously well. Which... is new.

Today (tonight) I am going to get sentimental about a car.

When I bought my last car, and arranged to pick it up the next day and leave my old car as trade, I told the salesman, "I may cry."  He said, "You wouldn't be the first."

Today I'm gonna play with the resolution on my computer. They gave us 17" monitors with a native resolution of 1280x1024. Which is headache inducingly tiny on anything smaller than a 19". But 1024x768 is friggin' huge. Clearly the solution is getting a bigger monitor.

And the main program we use here was designed for 800x600 and won't scale up. So now it's just taking up a tiny corner in the upper left of my screen.

I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats waiting for the stunning conclusion of "Blackberry Takes A Ride"
      Oct 7, 2008
6:13 PM    Departed FedEx location   INDIANAPOLIS, IN
11:44 AM    Arrived at FedEx location      INDIANAPOLIS, IN
Oct 8, 2008
9:05 AM    On FedEx vehicle for delivery   LYNCHBURG, VA
8:59 AM    At local FedEx facility   LYNCHBURG, VA
5:32 AM    At dest sort facility ROANOKE, VA

The result is that FedEx is... a "force I believe in" much like the dishwasher man at the dining hall. Operating unseen, with internals unknowable, but producing a result as should be expected. Questioning the force and seeking understanding is an arrogant tradition of the human mind.

Wait, does this mean you received a FedEx package that didn't go through Memphis? I thought those were just a myth.

Or Ground.

..eat some food now that the sun has set.

Yom Kippur is supposed to get us thinking real hard about God but you know what fasting gets you thinking real hard about? Egg drop soup.

Fasting in Catholicism is supposed to remind you of the suffering and sacrifice of the Savior.

As in - you think you're feeling bad?  At least you're not an innocent, nailed to a cross, redeeming the sins of your brethren.

Guilt trips are canon.

I'm not signing up for any religions where there's fasting. I prefer the kind where I'm supposed to see God in everything, like in my egg drop soup.

so, my friend who has a boyfriend tried to smooch up on me when she had been drinking. OK. I can handle this.

And then, yesterday, my roommate says "y'know, (girl), dan and I were talking, and we really think you should be more drunken and slutty."

What the fuck do I say to that? Dang.

in other news: I am never playing any board or other variety of game with my roommate again.

...go see Wicked, the stage musical that's been here in L.A. for three years or so. It's a good show, but I so love the book, I had far too critical an eye about it. I need to see it again and remember to forget the book.
but basically like of the six thousand elements that made the book great the musical shares like eight it's so different

I think I'm going to suggest to Mrs. Haus that we name our daughter "(girl)" - complete with parentheses.
