Go to the store and buy a monitor. I made a damn fool of myself because the sales girl who was helping me was so pretty I literally could not form a sentence. I didn't know that actually happened to people in real life. It was clear she knew the reason why I was In A State, and so I looked more like a three-legged puppy than a perfectly healthy moose, fortunately.

It's a nice monitor. 22", 1680 x 1050.

This happens to me with the sublimely pretty and the grotesquely ugly all the time.  Also, people with hairy moles between the eyes.  Most of those tend to be aware of their effect on others, but the moley ones can get testy.

...walk to class an hour early by accident. find out I forgot to do an assignment that counts for 25% of my grade in a class that... is a complete waste of my time, to the point that I typically forget I'm in it. But it's required for my major. I go to see the professor, who basically says "tough shit, no late papers" which surprised me. I withdrew from the class.
Then i got back an A on a presentation I gave last week, and found out that I got into the program I applied to to study in Paris this summer.

Also yesterday I finally ordered a dang banjo.

3 midterms to go, all in anthropology of various types, and then an exciting roadtrip to my hometown, and then to visit my roommate's girl who lives in DC.

update: oh god, the banjo is so hard to play. How can it be this hard. Also, to tune. The strings are so thin and little.

...try to fight off a pretty heavy case of the non-specific cause blues. Working on schoolwork might help, so I'm trying that.

And wonder why I had a dream with Ash in it last night.  He was vaguely displeased with me for some reason. Also, I'm pretty sure that my dream version of Ash looks nothing like the real one.

drove 2200 miles over the last week (realistically, i drove less than half of this myself, as my roommate is much better with driving long distances with me.) Saw the Feelies in DC, it was pretty great. My roommate got to see Charlotte, which was cool-- he said "it's like when someone joins your party in an RPG, and then later you visit their hometown for a side-quest." He is a big dork.
I like DC a lot. Baltimore was kind of boring, but I really liked the Visionary Art Museum.

It was sad seeing that my friends who we visited have parents who are absolutely wonderful, friendly, and reasonable. It is my friends who are the crazy, rude, unpleasant ones.
I am chalking that up to the conflict between the genetic/cultural imperative to flee your parents, and the current economic reality that college graduates cannot find jobs.

In DC I failed at my main mission, which was "purposely act like a loser, to make [roommate] look better in front of his girlfriend's parents." I acted like my usual charming self, he acted like his usual weird dork self. I guess it comes out even because he was the one getting laid... constantly... while I sat in their basement and watched TV.

Got back into town at 11 PM last night and ran into a crying friend. Spent an hour or so feeding her and sympathizing. Then worked on a paper until 5 AM. Then slept three hours, during which at one point I woke up because I was holding my breath in my sleep (wtf!?). Then worked for a few more hours. Then said "fuck it" and decided to turn it in tomorrow. Went to classes, slept all afternoon, now is time to finish the damn paper.

That feeling--falling asleep with an incomplete yet due paper, that causes you to hold your breath while asleep--I don't miss at all. Oh man, your post gave me flashbacks.

The thing that makes me mad is that... it's only 4 damn pages. I should have been able to write it in my sleep. I had 2 weeks to write it (... albeit the week of midterms when I had 3 exams, and then spring break).

philosophy just makes me so confused and annoyed. no good at all.

I am either writing an incredibly brilliant paper, or I am missing something important.
The part I like about this philosophy class is that it is totally legit to use weird sci-fi metaphors about *****s and alien worlds and brains in vats.

Wait for my insurance company to call me back. Because I managed to hit a stationary fuck*ng object yesterday. And when I heard the crunch I flinched and pushed down on the gas making it worse.

Watched a 180 minute production of Amadeus last night that I was required to go to for a class. Look, I love me some culture as much as the next guy, but no one wants to sit in a folding chair for 180 minutes. After the midterm this morning, I rescued a friend of mine who woke up in jail this morning and has no idea how he got there.F my life.

I have only ever hit stationary objects. A moving object has a fighting chance to get out of your way, right? But a stationary one is a sitting duck.

Today I went for a job interview in my job-gettin shirt, then went to uni and had to waste half the day in a 'team building' activity thing. In the end it turns out I could have bailed fairly early on and no one would have noticed but ti wasn't so bad, just means I've got work to catch up on. Then I went for a run with some friends and made plans to see a cool band on saturday night. Life is good on this fine day!

today, I am going to see an apartment/(is there a word for the upper floor of a duplex?). At this point I am anxious enough about finding an apartment that I will probably say "YES, I WANT THIS ONE" if there are not cockroaches scurrying across the floor.

...but also it is identical to my friends' half of the house, which is very nice and affordable to boot.
