Was your 100 an organized ride, or just your first time doing it?  I'm currently training for a triathlon (sprint distance, so pretty short for my first one), but I've really wanted to get into longer distance cycling.  What was your longest ride before you pulled off the 100?

I did the Portland Century: http://www.portlandcentury.com/routes.html

In training for it I used the grid on this page: http://bicycling.about.com/od/trainingandfitness/a/century.htm

I basically just picked a century ride that was scheduled for around when I wanted to do it, and then worked my way back on the grid to make the dates match up, and just pumped out the miles and the long ride for that week.  (I think it worked out to me starting on week 5, but I felt ok, as I had been doing roughly that distance of rides every week.)

If I had to do this last one again, I would have picked a flatter century.   This one was 3x the climbing of my longest/climbiest ride.  (66 miles, and 2000ft, 2 weeks before the century).  I also would have investigated chamois butter or some other form of crotch lubricant.  Bike shorts did me well up to 66 miles... but after so many hours, friction hits you and it gets bad quickly.

I'm currently scheduled for another one in October, and I'm looking at how to do that one faster.  Looking to move my overall average pace from 10mph up to around 15.

look at plane tix.  im planning on flying out to san diego in january or february.  my friends husband is in the corps.(hes in the middle east somewhere, as we speak), and next year in june theyre shipping out to japan.  this is kind of an emergency visit, as i wont be able to spend any time with her until(unless) they come back stateside.

theoretically, i could visit them in japan, but im poor and this is easier.

... wish I'd bothered to look into tickets for the US Open Cup final tonight. For some reason I thought the game was in Seattle instead of here. Ah well.

I'm sure you could buy them at the gate.  I'd kind of like to go myself, but I'm a lame-ass suburban family man, and schlepping into the District on short notice for a soccer game is kind of out of the question.

There are still mezzanine tickets but I don't really feel like going alone. My fried is a Screaming Eagle but his allotment of tickets are already spoken for. Had I realized it was a home game a couple weeks ago I could've gone with him. Hell, he changed his FB picture to We Win Trophies like 4 weeks ago but it never clicked for some reason.

Fried Screaming Eagle sounds delicious. Maybe like a fried turkey with cajun or thai spices.

Yeah.  I grew up in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, which is about 8 miles or so from Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne.  So this whole Screaming Eagle thing is forming weird images for me.

Yeah.  It was very common when I was in elementary school and the Vietnam War was still going on for formations of Hueys or other attack helicopters to fly over town on maneuvers.  Seems a little surreal now, but it was just everyday stuff back then.

I am a former Screaming Eagle myself.  Whenever Talon, United's eagle mascot, would wander around by our tailgate, I would should "Chicken Dinner!" at him.

I did end up going. It turns out Ticketmaster.com was crazy and there were much better and cheaper seats available. I ended up directly across from the Eagles almost at midfield.

Of course the outcome of the game sucked balls. An expansion team won? Really?
