to inev re the Avett Brothers:  I suppose I get that, but on the other hand I appreciate a band that is willing to evolve and try new things, instead of going back to the same well over and over (see also Iron & Wine and R.E.M.).  Good songs are good songs, regardless of the instrumentation.  They're still writing good melodies and writing astonishingly heartfelt and genuine lyrics.  Just because there's more piano doesn't diminish that.

"Ten Thousand Words" is probably my favorite from this record.

Indeed.  It's amazing what having real percussion has done for them.

I'm currently agonizing over driving to Dallas on Jan. 2 for their show vs. crossing my fingers for more Texas dates when they tour next summer.

I, too, cannot abide dark meat.

I will take less taste in exchange for not being greasy and stringy.

If a little extra taste is needed, that is why Odin made seasonings.

Mouthfeel is eternal.

There was/is a stretch adopted by the KKK in the state in which ye live.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Parks_Highway
Whoa, nice research, man. I remember hearing something about that now that I think of it. But anyway, the situations were a lot different. For starters, I doubt there was much - if any - opposition to the adoption in Northern Arkansas. That never would've lasted in Eastern Missouri even if it had ever really got off the ground. Two, if you set up a KKK merch table on the side of any road anywhere near the St. Louis metro area I fucking guarantee it'd be, at best, constantly ringed with protestors and, at worst, the target of daily drive-bys. Down there they were just allowed to go about their business.

I know there probably doesn't seem to be much of a difference between these two areas to someone observing from afar, but take it from a person who has traveled extensively through both states - they have very little in common in the field of race relations.

yes, that is the kind of person.

they are apparently very good at knowing things on multiple choice tests, and no other context.
Another good example is the girl in my roommate's English Lit class, who said "whatever, I just bullshitted this paper. I mean, isn't all english bullshit? Like, why does it matter what tense a story is in?" She is an English major.

Yes, that person might smoke a lot of pot. My friend has a crush on her, and I am very confused.

I want to state a hilarious, stereotypical fact about her, but in some creepy universe you could use it to track her down. So I will refrain from telling you this funny thing. Damn. Actually, a lot of things about her are stereotypically "I am a big stoner," except that she dresses all preppy, and is really into fuck*ng dudes. I don't know if fuck*ng is stereotypical of stoners.

Sounds like a future Wife of Orange County.

seconded  There is naught for me but dark meat.  White meat is way too dry, except when it's cooked well, and then it's still bland.  Bleah.

QFT. The saddest thing is ordering seeing chinese food made with white meat chicken. Stir fries are half the reason dark meat exists.

Fact: Most game birds are mostly (if not entirely) composed of dark meat.

I don't really know what I'm trying to say here, but maybe you haven't had well-prepared dark meat?

Today I got back my peer review of the paper I've been working on, in which the person says I don't have a thesis, or even an argument. This may be true.

Sorry, JL.

Right now I looked up at a poster on the wall of the radio station, and realized that it is a dude standing next to a statue of an angel.

...realize that Vista is like having your operating system be one of those old text adventure dungeon games.

My laptop suddenly lost wireless capability. The Tech Staff looked at it and clicked around and said ominously "this looks like a hardware problem" and took it away. After a very scary long time where I contemplated life, death, and my religious backup habits and hoped that I had lived a good clean life, he came back with an odd look on his face and said it was fixed. I asked what he did and he said "I found something to click that said "Solve this problem?" and I clicked it."

I realized - I had done the same thing once. The experience had been so traumatic I had wiped it out of my memory. So I said, omg, we will need to do this again - how did you find that thing to click?

And he had no idea. He didn't even know where to start to try to find it again. Just like I had, he clicked around and around and eventually the button appeared by magic.

There is obviously no logic to it. You are in a maze of twisty little passages all alike, and if you wander long enough, proving yourself worthy by persistence, you may be lucky enough to stumble into the secret chamber, where you do some nonsensical action, and then as if by magic, you are transported to a new level where your wireless works.

I don't recommend it.

Sorry, JL.

I just finished my review and emailed it back to you. It was actually fairly clear to me what your argument is supposed to be, but I felt that you didn't go far enough in your conclusions. You seemed sort of afraid to say something that came out of your own head and not from a book - which is EXACTLY how I wrote when I was an undergrad. Owning your ideas is a scary thing. Hopefully my comments will help you figure out how to do that, but if you need more nudging, I'll be happy to read it again when you've finished revising it.

It was really quite good, though. I knew you were smart and stuff, so I was expecting good, but even so, I was rather impressed.
