It does sound tantalizing, is what I'm saying. I hope wombles (or another TOUAMBie, but she seems like the best bet) gets it. That would rock the hizzouse.

If you can pull it off financially, then more power to you.  Kid years, especially little kid years, go by really fast.

Fortunately, Pedro's job pays the essentials. Anything I make above and beyond his income goes towards repairs and upgrades to the house, which is more than enough motivation for me to try to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible. But I do have the luxury of being able to work towards future income at my own pace, and not worry too much about what's going to keep the lights on this month.

That's not too much, actually, for an aggregator blog like BoingBoing, where your actual post might be 200 words with a link to something you read somewhere else. I think, based on my minimal exposure to the site, that Consumerist works the same way.

This is such the Conundrum.  Finding the time to pursue the writing dream while also putting beans on the table has been my head-scratcher since the newspaper rug got yanked out from under me.  I still love the thrill of putting good words on paper, but my current full-time job leaves little room for me to do so during the day.  The natural answer is to write during my non-working hours, but I'm finding that to be easier said than done.  

I'm not sure that I have a point here, but seeing that others here are wrestling with the same (or similar) issue gives me a much-needed motivational boost, a la the underwear quote.

Hey Ted, you wanna get in on our nearly-defunct writer's workshop? It's limited access, to encourage people to post works-in-progress without fear of it being exposed to the general public. We could use some new blood in there, I think.

This goes for any other of you newbies, too, who want to write better, either professionally or as a hobby. PM August or Wombat for access.

Consumerist actually blogged about one of my articles once.  I figure that pointing that out is likely to get them to at least read my application, so it's worth a shot. I'm not worried about six posts a day so much as "modest compensation," but plenty of time to worry about that later.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, or sound like some privileged straight white dude.  But this whole "post your bra color on Facebook" thing that's going around is the weakest form of slacktivism.  "Raise breast cancer awareness?"  To who, exactly?  Who are you alerting about breast cancer that isn't already aware of it?  Are you raising money for research, or petitioning Congress to put more money into it?  What the HELL people.
