oh my god, if you are on medications that should not be mixed with alcohol, don't drink a ton and then pass out on the floor of my bathroom, and puke everywhere.

ughhh. i just cleaned that damn bathroom.

also: this girl had the loudest sex ever with my roommate. oh my god, it was like a joke how loud it was.

have any of you guys found a job using the internet?

any sites you've used and liked, other than craigslist? I have been looking on Idealist.org, but their search function is irritating, and there are very very few listings in all of the places I want to live.

for some reason my friends are all obsessed with saying "feels good man" in this particular voice. It is so damn funny, even though the comic itself did not make me laugh.

"damn dude, that girl was so loud, holy fuck, it was so funny"
"whatever... feels good man."

There was a kid in my elementary school who pulled his ##### all the way to the floor to pee.  I could never figure that out - why go to all that trouble, plus leave your full moon glowing for the lackwits to mock?

1. people love Samoas
2. they are not some sort of secret thing... they are just cookies with coconut and caramel. you could make them and sell them to the people who want them, for money.
3. ??
outcome: you can't buy cookies like this at the grocery store.

SOMETIMES the grocery store near us has these Little Debbie cookies that are like samoas, but lately they haven't had them. What gives?

I think inev knows that craigslist is cool, just wondering about jobs off of it.  I used it to get a job after college.  It took a year and a half, but I got a ton of interviews.  I look like a stoner and don't interview well, so, you know.

I have gotten a number of gigs off of Craigslist, but I also check boards for jobs in specific fields (there are boards for zookeeper jobs and boards for journalist jobs for example) so you should figure out if there are any of those that would be relevant.

I have found Monster to be useless.  I have a couple of those things set up where Monster emails me jobs that are supposedly relevant to my resume, which I can't turn off because I can't remember my password, and they are never useful, but this is obviously because of my specific preferences - Monster jobs always seem to be at huge corporations and that is not my thing.

I did once have someone contact me because they saw my resume online either at Monster or the Washington Post job ads site - they both have functions where you can upload your resume and make it searchable to people. I got an interesting tour of some animal labs out of it, and if I had been desperate for full time work at that point, I would have followed up. That's the only thing that ever came of those sites for me. It's probably worth doing since it's not a huge investment of effort.

But, and I am sorry to say this - what they say about networking being critical, it is unfortunately true. If I sat down and listed all the jobs and all the freelance gigs I have ever gotten, I am pretty sure that more than half of them had something to do with knowing someone. Quite a few were jobs that were never listed anywhere. Either someone asked their friends and colleagues if they knew someone who was looking for a job like this, or it was somewhere where I already knew people directly and they asked me. Others were jobs that were listed, but I am pretty sure I got the interview, or got the editor's attention or whatever, because I knew someone who knew someone.

So, you need to make sure people know you are looking, even people who you might not think are relevant to a job search - I got a good article assignment once because my next door neighbor knew an editor.

...save $60 on groceries, triple coupons FTW.

I also scrolled through the photo album Judy posted on Facebook today, and I have to say that while there were disappointingly few pictures of Jude himself, one of his friends is pretty hot.

Alright guys, I will check out those sites.

If you made a movie where a guy watches The Graduate, and then immediately gets a call from his parents demanding to know what his Plans are, I would tell you that was too cute, too much of a dumb obvious trick. BUT THERE IT IS.

cool map
Tin Eye says that's either "US according to the rest of the world", or "Redneck's Map of the US".  I'm having trouble reconciling those descriptions.

I know specifics from me won't help inev but I got my only 'adult' job from a website, but then the uni I worked for basically posted all available positions on this site.

Also (because this took me a little while to grasp): Don't be intimidated if you don't have all the requirements they ask for, I've both gotten jobs I wasn't qualified for on paper and been in offices where we were making up a job application and my boss just threw in everything he could think of without real expectation of finding someone to match it. At worse they're going to go 'he doesn't have the requirements we want, next resume' and you're out one e-mail big woop.

Doc is right, but also, don't apply for jobs that you have NONE of the qualifications for. You would think this would go without saying but according to some job applications I have read, it doesn't.

When I was fresh out of college, I just used the local want ads. It worked out - lots of companies (especially small, local businesses) don't want to spend the money to post entry-level jobs on Monster.

Also, what Doc said. Apply for everything you're even remotely qualified for, and get someone else to help you with your resume. (Most people I know err on the side of over-modestly.)
