Today I'm going to have lunch with a slammin hot german woman I do business with. It was a new level of hot for me that my eyes immediately did the full scan and moved directly to the left ring finger.

Don't german women wear their rings on the other hand?

I don't care if she wants it on her little toe, she can have it!
And wombat, YES, I acquired her card.

Awesome AC.  Shit be good on this fine day.

Today I'm gonna appreciate the internet on a whole new level as I get live updates from her husband as one of my best friends has valve replacement surgery.  Four hours of surgery and she's done and her surgeon says she's doing well.  The valve is working (opening and closing) and her heart is already shrinking, as it doesn't have to work as hard.  We're un-god parents to her kids, so I'm glad she's doing good for her sake and for her kids and husband's sake too.

If anyone wants to know more about the Canadian medical system, I should note that she was sent to a surgeon two provinces over who is a specialist in her rare heart defect, that she is unemployed due to her health, didn't pay a penny for this and didn't fill out a scrap of paperwork of any kind.  I should also note that she had to postpone her surgery for a couple of weeks due to a chest cold, and that was not problem for the doctors to work around.

They wear their engagement rings on their right hands, but when they get married they move them to the left and put the wedding band on the right.

Usually.

Sure, but what's the point of life saving surgery if you have to live in a socialist nightmare?

That sounds right. My old coworker was German and wore here ring on the right. She said it goes back to when men kissed a ladies hand. Since he always kissed her right hand that would ensure her ring was all up in his face.

Oh, and apparently etiquette-wise a man still can't initiate a handshake with a woman. He has to wait for her to hold her hand up to see if she puts it in handshake or kissing position. Because that makes sense in the modern world.

They have those in the airport here on the Slope. I never knew what the story was with them. Thanks for the info!

Okay, so after your post I went on YouTube and watched a couple videos about water free urinals, but none actually explained how they work - is there suction involved, or it the urine disposal done entirely by gravity?

Oh my God, the rodent filter in JL's post gave me the biggest belly-laugh in months.  I'm still wiping tears off my face.

Gravity feed with a no-stink cartridge. I had to look them up because I was curious, there is definitely no sucking going on. You're not supposed to put water down them at all, so the cleaning guys have to spray in a normal light weight cleaner and swab any debris out. That extra step has probably left those dudes...pissed.

I was reading about these in Wired or Slate or something a couple months ago. Supposedly the cartridges are a hang-up because of cost and being single-source. Oh, and in most places you still have to plumb the wall for a traditional urinal because of plumbers unions and whatnot.

The newest library near me has them. Other than it being kiddie-height and the little leaf painted on it as a target I don't really notice a difference between these and normal touchless urinals.
