... SMOKE some fox at highway speed on the way to the gunks. Climb at the gunks anyways, taking a rental car the rest of the way there, and home, and leaving my poor, exploded car in upstate new york. Get rude on some 5.9's and rack up more stars than should be possible.

Wait, a fox got your car dead? Are they of a different order out there than I am used to or were you driving a tin can?

I mean, a fox or coyote is generally a mess but not a killer like an ugulate might be.

A coon took out my radiator last week to the tune of $150.

I don't think a raccoon should charge that much for that. I mean, how good at it can they possibly be?

Last day of work before I fly to the OC for thanksgiving. I also just found out that I have 5 paid vacation days saved up, so I will use them for this and x-mas.

I am so ready to be in the embrace of my family, hanging out with my little cousins, eating tons of delicious food. Awesome.

Wombat have you seen their little hands?!  They're pretty dexterous, and most are smarter than the slope-heads at the radiator shop near my house.

Seen on a FB friend's feed: a picture of a US solider in combat gear, presumably in Afghanistan or the like, with the caption "Walmart Employees, tell me again how working on Thanksgiving is ruining your holiday?"

Really, really don't get this. He's ex-military, so maybe it's just in the "Support our troops!" way. But the suggestion that people whose employers are exploiting them on Black Friday or Thanksgiving day itself should quit their whining because there are soldiers out there doing THEIR job on Thanksgiving day... I fail to see the connection.

Yeah, I've seen that one too, 'Los.

And I was like "Yeah, the job of defending a country is necessarily a 24/7 thing, for sure. The  job of selling cheap foreign-made electronics slightly cheaper for a short period of time doesn't have to be. We can totally do that Friday, you guys."

If you look at it in reverse, they are elevating working at Wal-Mart to the level of defending our country overseas. Of course soldiers aren't on duty 24/7, they work in shifts and have days off just like any other job.

And this isn't just about bitching because you have to work on Thanksgiving, it's about the further erosion of our national days of rest. I can remember when nothing at all retail was open on Thanksgiving and Christmas, not even the convenience stores and gas stations. I suppose we should be thankful that Wal-Mart and the like close at all on holidays. I imagine it won't be long before Thanksgiving and Christmas at Wal-Mart will be observed with a moment of silence then back to the selling.

I guess what I am saying is that I endorse bringing back blue laws that force retail to shut down on these special days. Let everybody, and I mean everybody*, take it easy for one day. Just one fuck*ng day.

*Except for Police and Fire Department, Hospitals and of course soldiers

I disagree. I don't want to have to rest on the same day everyone else does. In my jobs at places that were open holidays, I preferred to work the holiday and take a different day off. And when I had to work some weekends and had some weekdays off, I liked being able to go to places that are crowded on weekends while everyone else is at work.

There may be people who work at WalMart who are thrilled to get away from the family on Thanksgiving to work. People who don't celebrate Christmas might rather spend the day making money. People shouldn't be pressured to do it, but why should only police, fire, hospitals soldiers and zookeepers have the benefit of a rock solid excuse not to spend holidays with their relatives?

I kinda agree/ kinda disagree w wombat on the holiday thing (we are in the same line of work, at least when she isn't writing) but mad agree with her on the weekend thing.  My favorite work week is tues-sat.  You get to go out Saturday if you want, Friday if something awesome is happening, get to hang with people who have a normal weekend on Sunday, only you are crazy less worried about work week, and take it easy Sunday and Monday.  Plus, doing laundry at laundromats, going to grocery store, etc. all crazy easier on Monday.  Plus, if you have car or plumbing problems or something.  Anyways, I call it barber shop or barbecue weekends (in the past at least most barbecue and hair cutting places would be open sat and closed sun and mon, of course I am like the second youngest poster here, so this could be bullshit) and they are way better than sat sun off, though I am a person who slightly prefers being by myself (I at least need some alone time) and has goals.

Soldiers' woes versus Walmart woes is really about OUR TROOPS versus UNIONS. It's our tribal factions co-opting symbols and pitting them against each other straw-man style. Like when Calvin pees on everything and then prays about it.

Opening on Thanksgiving shows zero class. I'm with the "having class should not be government regulated" faction here. Siding with Wombat; always a safe move.

Today I'm gonna... post on TOUAMB for the first time in more than two years.
