did you know that new kids on the block was basically 'new edition for white girls'?

I was paying as much attention to New Kids on the Block as I was to New Edition.

I think I have a new favorite voice.
Maybe I just have a thing for girls with southern accents. But holy hell can this lady sing, and this was the first song she ever wrote.

But seriously, listening to country artists from Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers to Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson... there is just something about the way they sing that constantly astonishes me. Even just on a level of I would never say "man" like "ma-haing" the way she does.

Also, I love the way you can hear that jazzy 20's influence in Jimmy Rodgers's music. Like, oh man, this is where pop music comes from.

There is something about the way they sing that makes me notice their awesome lyrics.
"T for texas, T for tennessee... T for Thelma, the girl who made a fool out of me."

"But the man I love, when he picks up trash
He puts it in a garbage can
And that's what a you look like to me
And what I see's a pity
You'd better close your face
And stay out of my way
If you don't wanna go to fist city"

"If your house catches fire
And there ain't no water around.
If your house catches fire
And there ain't no water around,
Throw my suitcase out the window
Let the house burn on down."

I'm listening to The Cure: Join the Dots (rarities album). "A Man Inside My Mouth" - you don't say!

that album came out when I was a sophomore in high school.

also, despite being a college radio music director, there was a really large amount of stuff that I didn't listen to because I am a hoss's ass who is lazy about listening to music.

It's a Wipers marathon today, because I'm just in that kind of mood. (Old-school Pac NW punk.)

I love the Wipers. My favorite review at the radio station where I used to work was of a wipers album.
Will type out when I am not on my phone.

It is really weird how sometimes I am really into something and I never do very much Internet research on it. And then one day, "oh, there are probably blogs about African guitar music."

I did mention that I am pretty good friends with their original drummer, right? He is awesome. Coolest rock star I ever met (though he'd hate me calling him that).

So, since I have not posted any mixes, I will send you guys a link to my friend's awesome mix. Here it is. He likes the coolest/weirdest/worst music of anyone I know. He is a unique guy. This mix super-rules, and I think I would think that even if he were a stranger on the internet.

I hope you guys like dance music, both super-hip modern and corny retro in variety.

These guys will send you an email with links to free songs. I was just going to send this to you, Paul, but then I figured some other folks might want it. If this music is not cool enough or too many people like it or the bands' names are stupid, go fuck yourself - I like free shit.
