"Artists need to make money to eat and to continue to make art. Artists used to rely on middlemen to collect their money on their behalf, thereby rendering themselves innocent of cash-handling in the public eye. Artists will now be coming straight to you (yes YOU, you who want their music, their films, their books) for their paychecks. Please welcome them. Please help them. Please do not make them feel badly about asking you directly for money.” -Amanda Palmer

Hey Nabu, what's the best Thin Lizzy album?

Way too much of a fan to be unbiased, but I would probably go with the cliche recommendation of Jailbreak to someone who doesn't already listen to them. It's got their three real solid songs on it, and not all the keyboards that they got into at the end, plus it avoids the sort of hippy stuff their earlier albums get into. The thing is that most of their albums have some real vanity-type stuff on them. Renegade has some pretty tough songs to listen to. Having said that, anything from Fighting to Black Rose is solid.

A fellow could PM me for more information.

Unbiased opinions are worthless in rock n roll. I'll try Jailbreak out and hit you up for more recommendations.

Right now I'm on vacation and sick, but I'm only visiting my parents so whatever, except that I had to miss a Parliament Funkadelic show last night. So I'm listening to Funkadelic right now. I don't know if music gets better than:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9MgoRIXEqc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0DLMLlDu-s (best part right here for a minute or so)

and especially: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rrOdcnFbAY

I have been reading about the band online and came up on this sentence in Wikipedia:

Quote
The impact of Tate's writing lies in the seminal productive tensions he navigates between post-structural theory and black cultural nationalism; academia and street culture.

I have some drugs in my system and never sleep well anyway so I'm pretty groggy, but man, it took me like a full 45 seconds to get any traction on that sentence at all.

I think I am going to miss the show in PDX. I already missed them in Alaska once (at the ski resort - although I did see Dread Zeppelin there).

I was listening to Thin Lizzy because they were mentioned on here and it occurred to me that they were Irish and I felt in the spirit of St. Patrick's day.  Now I am listening to Rory Gallagher.

Found the craziest YT of Thin Lizzy from The Old Gray Whistle Test today. Gary Moore sang half of the song, and it had Cozy Powell on drums (I was pretty sure no one but Brian Downey had ever played drums for them).

Holy fuck just this moment on my quick scavenger hunt to find out when Brian was out of the band (it's going to take me a bit - no evidence so far) I came across this little bit of news, indicating that 700 (seven-Christing-hundred!) unreleased songs by Thin Lizzy have just recently been discovered, and there's at least a boxed set coming out at some point.

A) would not have found out about this - at least not this evening - without you folks, so thanks all for the inspiration.
B) this is like . . . Hmm . . . Wombles and Ash finding out that there's piles of unreleased Oingo Boingo that's been discovered and is coming out? I don't know. For me the real only comparison would be Marvin or early-70s era Stevie (there might be some of that, actually).
C) some of it is almost certainly crap, and I know and don't care. I have some horrendous BL Thin Lizzy and I can listen to it all day long. They're probably the only band I feel that way about (I don't like bad Hendrix or Jack White, for instance).
D) some of the stuff that I already have could have made it onto albums, and it would be nice to see if there are cuts that are more polished.
E) not certain how it works, but if they release 50 tracks in a set, the other 650 will be out there somewhere, I'll wager.

I am more shocked by this news than by the news that the Chargers took Whitehurst back and cut Volek!

I'm guessing it will trickle out over the next couple of years.

So strange to listen to Ozzy live. He spends the whole show berating the audience "louder! I can't fuck*ng hear you! Put some balls into it!" and wraps up at the end telling everyone how much he loves them. The life of a frontman must be odd.

I've seen Ozzy several times and never noticed it being that way, but I got the Black Sabbath Reunion Live Album a couple of years ago and he's fuck*ng obnoxious on that thing.  Between every song and sometimes right in the middle of the song he's berating the crowd to make more noise.  Here's a good example of this.  I'm wondering if that's a recent development?  The last time I saw him was in about 91-2.  The Reunion album was put out in 98.  Dunno.

Anyway, my respect for him started to fall when he made that horrible reality show with his horrible wife and horrible kids.  The bottom fell out when I learned that Geezer wrote Sabbath's lyrics.

Regardless, Sabbath still rules.

All the live shit I've seen/heard after he went solo seems to be that way. Can't argue the GKA theory, though.
