Fried chicken, duh. Eaten cold, sans utensils. And sweet tea if you can get it.

Close second: meatloaf sandwich. (Wait, does that count as a sandwich?)

cold lamb chops and fried eggs: maybe the only thing better than bacon.

Mmmmm, lamb.

Ever eat any mutton?  The part of Western Kentucky where I'm originally from is famous for barbequed mutton.  It's like lamb only moreso.  Mmmm.

Dammit, now I want some mutton.

Mostly in stew.  Mutton was big in Oz when I was living there in the '70's.  Might still be.  I can't believe how expensive lamb is here.

Meatloaf might not be the BEST leftover but it IS the standard.

Perhaps, but is it a sandwich?

I don't know, but it's a great example of a leftover that's better the second day.

I think in another era everyone's meatloaf was dry and bad. My mom's meatloaf is awesome and I love it.
My dad talks about how until he was dating my mom, he thought only professionally trained chefs could make good food. His mom's kitchen had two spices: salt and pepper.

Today this "creative classhole" (can't take credit for that one) led a walk down a big street in St Louis, Delmar Blvd. He pointed to two buildings on opposite corners, and talked about how one was a successfully designed urban building and the other was not. Everyone on the tour nodded and agreed and snorted at how horrible the fast food joint was.
Fun fact: that fast food joint is extremely popular. The "successfully designed urban building" has been empty since I moved here in 2006.

When I was at WashU the student paper did a review of this place (Church's Chicken, a fried chicken chain) which was on the level of this BS. They essentially said "I was scared to go into this place because I am white, but actually it is a normal fast food restaurant that served me food."

We had a Church's Chicken in Toledo when I was a kid. I still remember the '80's radio jingle.

"Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-Church's Chicken! T-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-tastes better!"

It was better than KFC, in my kid-pinion, but they only lasted a few years before they shuttered. I never figured out why. Maybe there's latent racism about that particular brand everywhere?

We don't have them where I live now.

Re: Meatloaf. My mom's meatloaf recipe involved pouring an entire can of cream of mushroom soup over the top of the meatloaf before baking it. It looks and sounds disgusting, but holy hell, it is the creamiest, moistest, most delicious meatloaf I have ever had the pleasure of savoring. I don't make it often, myself, because it's a total calorie bomb, but when I do, I serve it up with a side of mac & cheese and no apologies. And I make damn sure I have burger buns for the leftovers, 'cause that shit will straight up destroy a regular slice of white bread.

That reminds me - I haven't made my mini-meatloafs in forever.  They are so good, and not at all dry.  Making a bunch of mini's reduces the likelihood of drying out because you only need to cook through smaller loafs without the worry of over cooking the outside to get the inside cooked.

Also, when I went to my SIL's grad this week, I looked around and realized I was the only non-Caucasian in a room of around 300 people.  That was a tad creepy - not scary, just more of an awareness that in such a group, in such a small town, that plenty of the folks there would have some racist sentiments if given half the chance to voice them.

Just had a meeting with a guy about volunteering at his organization, and I think that something I said was Shit My InEv says. At a certain point he seemed very defensive and put-off, and I felt like he was on the verge of telling me "no, you cannot work for us for free." As it stands he is going to call me sometime soon with some research to do.

There are Church's all over Houston. Fortunately Houston also has some really good fried chicken places.
