Just read a great article about Facebook. The author even identified my type. I am "The Self-Hating Facebooker: You know, the dude who is always on Facebook carping about the vacuousness of “Fakebook.”" Well, except, I don't carp on Facebook, I do it here. :)

I'm not saying my roommates are boring, but they have long conversations about the weather.

Only three deaths due to prostitution or commercialized vice. Let's open some brothels up in this piece.

Something we've talked extensively about on this board, those Meth user before and after pictures. In my innocence I never doubted the validity of the photos, but I just saw them posted on Facebook, and my new everything on FB is bullshit rule of thumb has caused me to call them into question. What say you my Brain Trust?

oh damnit ubuntu, why did you delete my post?

ok well uh lets try this again

who has two thumbs and is anti-meth and pro-brothel? this guy.

marijuana, prostitution, and abortion: legalization is awesome, resulting in an improvement in quality of life for entire societies.
meth, pimpin, religious demands on child-bearing: condemnation is the future, the present state proving a detriment to any who encounter it.

the pictures of meth users are something i believe. it's harder to kick than crack, but i know two people who have managed it. they both decry it as the scourge of our time, and actively aid those currently addicted. they both have known more people to fall to meth than i have known professionally in my life. neither will even discuss the process of eliminating it from their lives. frankly, i don't want to know any details.

there are drugs which aren't bad for a person, and there are others that don't get along with being a person. i think meth, like crack, is the latter. of course i'm biased toward certain drugs, which i've done, but i have a hard time believing that meth widens a person's conciousness or introduces a consumerist to natural occurences.

any intoxicant CAN be ill for any SPECIFIC person depending on their circumstances. any child of alcoholics is of course wise to dodge that trap, et cetera. i think of meth writ alcohol times a thousand, in terms of strength of addiction and negative effects on any who use it. those two i mentioned had to excise themselves of entire social groups to escape the encapsulating culture.

look this whole post has no overreaching thesis, really, other than U.S. out of our lungs and uteri, except for meth and other drugs like it, which isn't exactly catchy. you know what i'm getting at.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way defending meth. It's some terrible terrible stuff, and I believe those pics are probably real, but it seems like literally everything on FB is pure BS so it's caused me some doubt.

One of my friends just shared this video on FB. This only bothers me because dozens of people commented on it and not one of them said, oh, this is total bullshit. I guess that's left for me to do. <sigh>

I take baby Z to Walmart today, it is her nap time so it's handy to run some errands while she snoozes in her stroller, which is something she does quite contentedly if undisturbed.  We had come straight there from her baby group, so she'd had lots of engagement and interaction and was ready for a rest.  Z is droopy eyed going in and out and well on her way to dream land, but not quite asleep as I head inside.  I am walking along and I see one of the blue vest associates is one of those "coo-coo for babies" high energy people -- old enough to be a grandmother -- the type that should know better than to disturb a baby, but either is too stupid or doesn't care.  She is locking on to the stroller with her eyes, saying "look at that baby!" to her coworkers, so I give the lady a firm shake of my head, which she seems to ignore, then I quickly steer the stroller away.  I seem to have evaded her, and go about my business.  Z is in that half daze of not-quite but not-quite-not asleep, and she is so due for a nap after a rough night of teething pain.  So I am in the Fruit of the Loom isle, looking for my size and suddenly the "coo-coo for babies" associate is right in the isle, crouched down with her head in the stroller, face to face with Z.  She had to have been following me, because she basically sprung on us.

Associate: Look at the baaaaybee!
Me: She's sleeping, please leave her...
Associate: No she's not!  Her eyes are open!  HEEELLLOOO baby!
Me: Well, she was falling asleep, but you're waking her up.  Please leave her alone.
Associate (to Z):You''re not asleep!  HELO! You're eyes are WIIIIDE open!
Me: She needs to nap.  GO. AWAY.
Assocaite:  You don't want to sleep, do you Baaaybeee?
Me:  Oh, my god, stop!  Seriously.  Leave her alone.
Associate (laughing):  Good bye sweetie!
Me: Thanks a lot.  (Sigh)

I was so pissed off with this lady that I actually considered asking to speak to a manager, but what would my complaint be apart from "this lady is a clueless idiot."  Z is a pretty laid back baby, so she just sort woke up and sat there looking shell shocked as I shopped, but she missed her nap entirely, and my hope to run a few more errands was squandered as she got more fussy from lack of rest and I needed to take her home for an in-the-bed nap instead.  FUUUUUUU!

Babies are irresistibly cute; but I keep my distance unless specifically invited.  Mama bears got nothing on sleep deprived women trying to get some life done.  Maybe older women who have had kids of their own think they've paid their dues and are immune to the personal space thing?

I've come to find there's a subsection of women in our parent's generation who have taken on a role of under-minding and/or counteracting the current generation of mothers.  The feminist in me understands that women have been taught to compete and play against each other for generations, and that that is bullshit, and solidarity is the better path.  Then there is the mother in me, who basically doesn't have any time for other people's bullshit.  I mean, come on, I feel a sense of accomplishment when I both shower and brush my teeth on the same day right now, do not fuck with me Walmart lady.
