We can read just fine! We're all too busy with that book learnin', don't know how to do anything of actual value.

When I was a young'un, growing up in the mean suburbs of Sydney, AUS, we didn't have a fancy clothes dryer, such as you see in folks' homes these days.  Clothes were hung on a line, or later in a fancy contraption that looked like an umbrella but had lines strung between the ribs instead of fabric.  Before that stage however, my mom would pull the sopping clothes out of the washer and run them through a device she called "The Mangler", which was an electrified set of rollers that squeezed the excess water out.  She never let my brother or I be in the washroom when she operated it, and wore her hair up in a bun on account of Precautions.

This device is more typically known as a wringer, and is thus the source of the expression "put through the wringer."
If someone writes that they've been "put through the ringer," they MIGHT AS WELL SAY "Yes I'm Stupid!"

Or the perhaps less common expression "my tits in a wringer."

My mom's rack was in no danger at that time.  Sporty physique.  Her hair was waist length though.

In my experience it's usually guys who use that expression for some reason.

"Putting your nuts in the wringer" is probably just too painful to say.

I am not a big Henry Rollins fan.

I mostly agree with what Rollins said. I would never say what he said, but I understand where he's coming from. He was insensitive, and in part over the top, but he wasn't wrong.

Thinking back, I did really like a thing he wrote about weightlifting. He made me get the appeal, which I didn't before, and I tend to think any piece of writing that makes you understand another person's experience is a good piece of writing. This piece is kinda the opposite.

That was interesting, both his original, and post-woodshed essays.  I certainly think its possible for people to evolve in their opinions over time, and I think its unfair of us to label someone as a flip-flopper or inconsistent when they do so.

Oh for Pete's sake. Because if the anti-government types were in charge, we'd have fewer guns and less racism. Yeah, sure.
