My assumption WRT chance meetings has always been that The Force is leading people where they need to go.

That does help.

The suggestion in TFA that the younger characters thought that the Jedi, Luke etc were all a myth was awesome and I want them to build on that.

SPOILER ALERT!

That part didn't ring true for me. They've only jumped like 30 years into the future. It would be as if we all had heard of Ronald Reagan, but weren't sure he existed. A lot of other really huge, improbable things also took place during that 30 years. Apparently the Empire fell, the Jedi ascended, something happened between Skywalker and his son and the Jedi disappeared from the galaxy. Meanwhile Some remnant of the Empire coalesced into a new power and have managed to build a weapon the size of a small planet. the former rebels are now a new resistance. Whew, that's a lot of history for 30 years.

Well, given that in the Star Wars universe it seems like the internet/computers don't exist, it seems totally believable to me that the Jedi, Luke Skywalker, etc would be semi-myth. "I heard some crazy magic guys took down the government." Especially since the remnants of the Empire would try to suppress it all.

Saw the new Coen Bros (Hail, Caesar). I can't decide what I thought about it.

I would say not much happened, or at least that nothing got wrapped up. I came out ambivalent-- but my two friends HATED it and even said it was one of the worst Coen bros movies. Which makes me want to defend it.

Hey Inev, have you ever seen Satoshi Kon's Paprika? I was trying to think of anyone I knew who would appreciate it and you were the only one who came to mind. You can get it streaming on Amazon.

Oh, this looks so good! I remember hearing about it back when it came out, but I have not seen it. I have some Amazon credit from returning something, I'll watch it soon.

I didn't get The Big Lebowski the first time I watched it.

Me neither! I actually didn't enjoy it the first several times I watched it. Then I watched it with my sister and we were both cracking up. I guess my sense of humor has shifted a little.

This one definitely had some PERFECT scenes with excellent jokes. The more I think about it, the more I want to see it again. I just shared my analysis with the friend I saw it with and she completely rejected it and said I was making it up, even though I feel pretty sure about it.

Spouse found out I never watched Footloose before.

Guess what I'll be doing one rainy evening this weekend. Kevin Bacon with a Kenny Loggins soundtrack, it can't hurt me, right?

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I kinda like Footloose.

Because all of my friends wanted to watch it all the time. I also felt like I didn't "get" it and wanted to get it.

Maybe this is one reason I have more friends on the internet than in real life, but if my friends wanted to watch a movie I already saw and hadn't liked, I'd just go home and let them watch it. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Of course it's true that I have to be dragged kicking and screaming into watching a movie at the best of times, so this probably strikes me as more of a horror that it does most people.

I've been seeing a lot of movies lately. For the last couple of years I always add all of the Oscar nominees to my Netflix queue. So for the best I've seen from this year is Room. That is a very good movie.

For the love of God make sure you have an adblocker on though.

You should also make sure you see Tokyo Godfathers somehow.

Whoa. This is a weird thing: I remember this name (Millennium Actress) getting thrown around a lot last time I was into anime-- which I guess was when it came out. This looks great.

Today I stayed home from work and read 20th Century Boys all day. I think it is pretty great. I have been enjoying reading it (sorry, in fan-translation) and looking up the untranslated sound effects on here.

I will look for Tokyo Godfathers.

Also newly in the Paramount Vault youtube account is "North Dallas 40." Infamous among my friends in St Louis because when we were in college they were throwing out all of the old Film Club's stuff. All of the cool movie posters had been taken, but a friend got the North Dallas 40 poster because of the inscrutable tagline: "Wait 'til You See The Weird Part."
