Y'all are fancy. I just use a pot with a ventilated lid, and shake it, shake it, shake it like a polaroid picture.
But then, I'm popping maybe two tablespoons of kernels at a time, just enough for me and my daughter to share, and I'm doing it every day. I like being able to throw the pot in the dishwasher and have it ready the next day at snacktime. I do love popcorn, but I don't care for it as much if it's plain or with just salt. I do use significantly less buttery powder on stovetop-popped kernels than they put in the microwave bags, though; I like being able to taste, you know, corn. I sprinkle it on sparingly and don't use additional butter for the topping.
So far my favorite oil is sunflower, though olive oil is pretty good too. The coconut and ghee recipe sounds fantastic, but too rich for my blood. I ran out of cheap store-brand kernels, so I bought another bag of cheap stuff and a jar of Ruby Red gourmet whatchamacallits to do a blind taste-test on my family.
I thought the test kernel thing seemed like a waste of time, but that's what the directions on the package said so I went with it. I won't bother now that I've got the TOUAMB Seal of Approval.
