Wine: Keep a red and a white on hand at all times. When choosing wines on the wine aisle, use this simple rhyme to make your selection: “Closer to the floor, is meant for the poor / closer to the lights, is more like for if Bono comes over.” -=RAY=-

In the past year I decided it was a good idea to get a credit card "for emergencies" and to build credit. I got something with a really low limit, and always pay off the balance immediately.

But anyway, interesting, I just got two items of mail. One is an offer of a loan to help me "fix my financial troubles." I am not having any financial troubles. The other was an offer to apply for a credit card-- that I didn't qualify for when I applied 6 months ago. So I guess the credit industry doesn't know as much about me as they'd like to think.

I also just did my tax returns on TurboTax, and it says I'm getting a whopping $10. Total. Federal and State. Hmmm.

dude the credit card offers are bulk mail bullshit. even when your name is printed on them and they say "pre-approved" it isn't like they're ready to give you credit. i had such awful credit for so long that i'm just now basically able to apply for credit, but that didn't stop any credit card offers from coming to me pre-approved. it's shit like that and weekly coupons that basically just keep the post office running. without the junk mail, a stamp would probably cost the same as sending a letter with fedex or ups.

Seems like a fair deal when you put it that way.

if you have a wood stove, junk mail is a rad way to supplement heating costs.

A lady was in my apartment yesterday and she may have given signs, upon which I didn't act because human emotions puzzle me bip bop. Today: brood ruefully at work, then brood ruefully at home.

'Burning Junk' sounds like a terrible consequence of choices.

Burning Junk?  Isn't that by William S. Gibson?

I sometimes get multiple credit card offers from the same bank on the same day. They freaking love me, apparently. It's nice to feel wanted.

I did the lifetime opt-out so I haven't received any credit card offers in the mail since I was like 19. Except Amex. They use a different database so the don't respect the opt-out.

I got a (semi-) cold call from a consumer loan agency about a week ago.  They asked if I could use a couple thousand dollar loan.  I presume this is because people get themselves into credit card problems over the holidays.  Thankfully we learned that lesson about 10 years ago.  I declined the offer.  The whole experience had a vibe like an old friend who was a pusher on the side dropping by to see if you're still sober.

Pro Tip: While putting rock candy in plastic test tubes sounds like a really cute idea for a science-themed birthday party, in practice it sort of looks like you're passing out crystal meth to six-year-olds.

Do they sell bubble-blowing glass crack pipes?  Because that would make for a festive goody bag.

Still not sure where the problem is here.

It's off-theme. I was going for Mythbusters, not Breaking Bad.
