I ended up in 4th place last year but somehow pulled off the best regular season record. My point is I haven't been completely terrible at this before this season.

But yeah, feels kinda good. It was the only thing yesterday that kept me from dissolving into tears, watching King Felix leave the mound after dominating through 5 innings, only to have Oakland suddenly to decide not to suck anymore and clinch the final playoff spot.

Also, jealous of The Mayor getting to see a MLB no-no live.

Oh yeah, that.

If there's a thread for 2015 fantasy baseball, I can't find it. Excuuuuuuuuuuuuse meeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Looks like we have 9 teams at the moment. Draft tomorrow night. Anyone else want to pile in to give us an even number of teams?

Looks like I have not previously posted about Hardball Passport, a site that helps you track all the baseball games you've been to. (They have similar sites for football and basketball. No hockey, yet, but it may come along eventually.) This was already fun as hell for a big baseball nerd like me.
http://hardballpassport.com/traveler/carlosdelvaca

This year they added a premium option that aggregates the stats for major league games you've attended. So now I know things like "When I've seen Stephen Strasburg pitch, his ERA is an absurd 1.41." It also gives you a breakout of Hall of Famers you've seen in person.

HOF (times seen): Cal Ripken (7), Mike Schmidt (4), Ozzie Smith (4), Steve Carlton (3), Roberto Alomar (2), Craig Biggio (2), Rod Carew (2), Barry Larkin (2), Paul Molitor (2), Eddie Murray (2), Johnny Bench (1), Dennis Eckersley (1), Tom Glavine (1), Greg Maddux (1), Pedro Martinez (1), Jim Palmer (1), Tony Perez (1), Jim Rice (1), Ryne Sandberg (1), Willie Stargell (1), Dave Winfield (1), Carl Yastrzemski (1), Robin Yount (1)

Discussion of this with some people in the office got me to look up this game I went to at Fenway when I was 10. Holy SHIT look at these lineups.

They're saying last night's rain delay in San Diego is only the fifth rain delay in the history of Petco Park. (Plus there was that one time they delayed a game because of bees.)

I find this especially amusing because I was at the previous one, in 2011. Ash, it was the night before we went to the Angels game. And my San Diego friend Mike, who was at that game with us, was at Petco last night. So five rain delays in 12 seasons, he was at two of them (at least). Go figure.

Yeah, he could get the state to pay for him to go to Padres games to help relieve the drought.

It's raining in California. That's good news, right?

I am off to Detroit tomorrow for this year's big dumb baseball weekend. Justin Verlander is making his first start back off the DL. That may well be ultimately disappointing, and he's not quite the guy he was a few years ago, but still: that's cool. Also, I picked him up in our fantasy league.

Did you pick up his girlfriend too?

That's a different sort of fantasy league.

Say, who's that flying up the standings in the Achewood Memorial Fantasy Baseball League? Why, it's the team from Banana Town.

Comerica Park is pretty nice--has the good view of the city skyline, not unlike Pittsburgh. Tons of bells and whistles, including a carousel AND a ferris wheel. Good beer, OK food. Verlander was OK for his first start off the DL. Miguel Cabrera is a good hitter.

There are but two weeks left in our regular season.

Marrrners and Owensboro have clinched playoff spots already.
The next four spots are currently occupied by Atlanta, the Shortstops, Angels o' Death, and Oakey Blues.

Banana Town 7.5 games out in the 7 spot, and with two weeks left that's a lot of ground to make up. So the playoff field may be practically set already.

This, by the way, is awesome. The disappointing thing for me though is that so far I can only find one ticket stub for a Mariners game during their Kingdome years, but it was an Orioles game so I have at least one HOFer. I'll have another next year when Griffey is inducted. I went to so many games in the 80s and 90s but most of the details are gone.

Football site is cool, too.

Has anyone here been to an MLB HOF induction ceremony?

Nope. I went to the HOF in roughly 1997 but just on a random day.

Perhaps if and when someone is inducted as a National (Bryce Harper?), I'll do that.

I'll be calling you in about 3 weeks, then. I will also call you when they award him NL MVP at the end of the season.

They give that hardware to guys on teams that shit their ##### to the Mets?

They gave it to Mike Schmidt in 1986, didn't they? (Also that Phillies team didn't exactly mess up, those Mets were just absurdly good.)

It's one of those years where the best individual candidates are mostly on non-playoff teams. If the Snakes somehow manage to make a run and take the NL West, perhaps he gets it.
