Last week of the fantasy baseball regular season.

The Atlanta Braves (ugh, terrible team name, sorry) have also clinched a playoff spot.

Banana Town is 4 GB of the Sumo Shortstops for the last spot. A tall order to make that up not playing head-to-head, but stranger things have happened I guess.

Screw it, I'm never watching baseball again, after last night's debacle.

Yeah, I was highly skeptical of Posnanski's article calling the Papelbon trade the worst thing, but now I can't help but wonder. Of course, if Storen is so fragile that being moved to the 8th inning makes him fall apart, he probably has no business being a big-league pitcher at all, but what do I know.

Speaking of which, I could not fuck*ng believe that Williams put him in the game last night. Were I managing the team, the only way Storen would have pitched last night (after the Tuesday debacle) is if the game went 18 innings or so. Let him have a couple days off, then have him work out his issues on the road.

But no. Williams was clearly thinking "Gotta show faith in the guy! Get right back on the hoss!" Bang, two-run homer, Strasburg takes the loss. As I tweeted at the time, "ALL THE PROFANITIES"

On a more pleasant note, as you are probably aware I am in the process of going to all the major league baseball stadiums (typically one per season at this point). I am planning on Miami next year, but as my daughter wants to go and we want to specifically see the Nats there, there's only one series on next year's schedule that would work, in May. And I got to thinking, what if she's in a school play or there's something else going on that we can't go then? What's plan B?

Don't want to go to Miami without her, save it for another season.
Planning on taking the family to SF the next year.
I have friends in Colorado, but there's that conference that was supposed to be there and got cancelled, I'm holding out hope that it gets rescheduled and I get to go there on the company's nickel.

That leaves me with only three choices. Just three! And that blew my mind a little bit. Really getting close to the end of this quest.
Milwaukee, Tampa, and Phoenix. None of which are places I'm super-enthused about going, but I'd make it fun somehow.

(my vote is for the Carolina league as your start.)

Yea, verily. The plan is to revisit some that I haven't been to already (Boston being first on that list--I went there when I was 10). And concurrently hit more minor league parks, starting with the Carolina League and the Appalachian League. The Appy League is way down there, but is supposedly home to some of the most picturesque little ballparks around.

No miracle comeback for Banana Town. So the first round of the playoffs are like so:

Oakey Blues (Ash) vs. Angels of Death (Ulf??)
Owensboro (Greg) vs. Sumo Shortstops (AW)

bye: Marrrrnerrrrrrs (miles), Atlanta (Kevin??)

I still don't know who Angels of Death and Atlanta are by board-names, so speak up if that's you or someone associated with you.

Not only that, you made it out of the semis.

Oakey Blues 9, Marrrnerrrrs 1
Owensboro 5, Sumos 4

Ash vs. Owensboro Greg for the champeenship.
AW vs. whoever Kevin is for third place.

Good luck yinz. Try not to let your closer choke your MVP candidate.

They just announced that Papelbon has accepted the league's 3-game suspension for plunking Machado, and the team has suspended him 4 games for the business with Harper. So he's done for the year. That's a good thing; I think there might have been a mass walk-out if he had come in to pitch today.

It's all good, I've taken my share of cheap shots at the Mets and the Braves. As I've said previously, if LFM did nothing but tweet pictures of Screech falling down at me for the next two weeks, I wouldn't blame him one bit.

Seems like every effort to tweak the baseball playoffs is a reaction to some perceived injustice, in which an inferior team won something. Too many wild card teams winning the World Series? Let's make the wild card harder by adding another team! But eventually an 88-win team will squeak in, then get hot and win the whole thing... oh wait, that happened already.

If you want the best team to win, the only solution is to scrap the playoffs altogether and declare the team with the best regular-season record the champion. (As a fan of the Washington Nationals, I'd like to retroactively impose this rule back to 2012, please.) Good enough for the EPL, why not us? Oh, because the playoffs make a shit-ton of money.

I feel bad for fans of whatever team loses the NL wild card game, be it the Pirates or Cubs. Those teams have both had great seasons, but one of them will wash out before they even really got started.

As a person who has not seen a pitch of baseball this year and who has lived in LA for a month and a day, let me just say.....haha, suck it OC!

Did I do this right?  Or in LA do you just route for whatever team is the best?

A tad anti-climactic: Owensboro 8, Oakey Blues 1, to give Owensboro Greg his first championship. He finished second last year and third the year before, so next year he'll finish in zeroth place. Second place is Ash's highest-ever baseball finish.

Third place: Atlanta 6, Marrrrners 3. I still don't know who Kevin is, but good job, you.

Thanks for playing everybody.
