oh, see, my cats don't sit on my parents when they are sick. They just sit at the foot of the bed and look at them occasionally.

Relate to the proverbial kettle much, Mr. Hairball?

On the subject of weird cat behavior: apparently the younger of my parent's two cats (Ashby, almost two years old, adopted from the animal shelter as a wee kitten after being found in a ditch, kind of cute but sort of off-kilter) purred for the first time anyone can remember last night. He was lying on my parents' bed and was being petted, and for the first time in his history he responded to this with purring. This is quite a surprise, given that previously we had sort of put him in the category of "cats who just won't do this" (like the late, lamented Puff, who would grunt instead).

Man, I need to get a Christmas tree. My boys are sorely deprived by not having an annual, magical new hidey-place. They would love that...well...unless Lennybruce decided to climb the tree. That could get ugly.

That is why screw the stand to a chunck of plywood and weight that sucker down. A nice fluffy tree skirt helps avoid broken ornaments. It's worth it to see a kitty face peering out of a tree at you from face level, all acting out little feral fantasies.

OH MY GOOOOOOD!

Remember how much I love Daifuku? And cute things? Well there was a cute bunny named Oolong, and his owner liked to gently balance stuff on Oolong's little noggin, and take pictures!
Here's a piccie of Oolong balancing a daifuku on his noggin!  CUTE OVERLOAD WARNING.

As wikipedia says, the head performance is actually a result of the domestic rabbit's natural tendency to cuddle with each other, other animals (like housecats) and their owners by submissively putting their heads underneath the others' chin. They seem to find the contact and light weight on their foreheads comforting. Any training involved would be minimal.

The best known of Oolong's photographs was one that was widely used as an image macro. Featuring Oolong balancing a dorayaki on his head, it had the tagline "I have no idea what you're talking about... so here's a bunny with a pancake on its head."

You old d-brella people - how huge was that in '02?

(that picture was basically like a bunny with an attached radome, cool)

okay, update from Alaska's Crazy Cat Lady (tm):

I went to a local nonprofit's auction tonight, and I bought a soft fleecy blanket (it was handmade and I bid a hell of a lot on it to win). Was it for my bed? No. was it for my sofa for when I watch movies? No. I bought it solely for Milan and Lennybruce to sleep on. They both like to knead on soft things, and Lenny even goes so far as to bite whatever he's kneading, just like he was a wee toothless laddie who was trying to nurse on his mama. The Megatokyo Sad Girl in Snow blanket was getting a little ratty from all that Lenny-nursing, so I figured it was time to get a new one.

*sigh*. Yeah, I know, dating is awkward, especially after dating a crap dude who dumped me via email...being the crazy cat lady is so much more comfortable.

Also: I have lost seven pounds in the past three weeks, so the Hacker's Diet and working out occasionally is going well. I hope to be down to fightin' weight in a couple of months.

Time for another kitty update.

I came home from work for lunch, and as per usual I scooped up Lennybruce to give him a kiss (I can't pick up the Sweet Milan because it hurts his back). I notice that Lenny's muzzle and face is TAN and BEIGE instead of the typical snowy white. I go into the bathroom...and he's hopped up on the sink, opened the medicine cabinet, and pulled out a bunch of shit to play with. Notably missing is my foundation brush. I look under the sofa, and lo and behold...Lenny dragged it out to play with it, and covered his face in makeup as he was chewing it. Thanks, dude.

>_<

oh well, it's the price that I pay for having adorable kitties. I about died laughing as I looked at Lenny's little smudged face.

Of course, Milan is being sweet and good, and lying on his back in the middle of the living room floor.

Fellows with bad backs do this.

Or take up Tae Kwon Do.  My back has been much happier the last 9 years.

cats lying on their backs and displaying The Belly-- my favorite thing.

my mom always gets mad, though, because I rub my cat's stomach and say "who's a fat boy? who's a fat boy who likes his belly rubbed?"
my mom will not admit that the cat is fat.

Cats with make-up?  Here's a couple embarrassing things:  when I lived alone, I used to put a tiny dab of pinkish tinted CUNT lip gloss on my cat's nose (which is pink already) to intensify the pink.  Also, when he'd cuddle-nuzzle me, he would be CUNT scented.  Now that seems a little odd, but when I lived alone, totally normal.  These days, our smallest cat, she loves to be dressed.  It's really odd.  The SO's buddy came over (this was years ago) after seeing some strippers and he had one of those lace garters that a stripper gave him.  Later, I realized it was the perfect size to be a kitty tutu.  I've occasionally dressed her in other things - a little doll dress, a tiny pair of pixie wings - she's very happy to be clothed, and gets upset when I try to take clothes off her.  Now if she sees the tutu, she comes running over and actually climbs into it herself.  It's a little weird, but she likes it so much.  A few days ago she put it on, and I sort of forgot to take it off and would just notice her walking past with a tutu on every so often, so she was wearing a tutu for days and days.  Then I noticed she was grooming it like it was a part of herself a few days ago.  Yesterday I took it off - it had been about a week.  This is really just a step too close to crazy-cat-person, so I won't go out an buy her an actual small dog outfit... but I know she'd love it.

My kitty, Angel (who was snow-white, and who had been my pet and companion since I was five) died six months ago yesterday, and I want another one so bad. So so so so so so so so so bad. So bad I want a kitty to name Chochacho, or Roast Beef, or something dumb and music-related that my boyfriend will come up with. I don't care. We can name the kitty Lamp, as long as I get a kitten.

One of the reasons I really see potential with my current SO: he is a mega cat person, so neither of us will be able to stop the other from adopting kitties, and we will grow old and be crazy cat codgers together.

Sorry, I know that's OT, but I want a kitty.
