Oooh... now that I (almost) have gainful employment, I think I'm gonna pay a scalper to get Tori Amos tickets. She is playing the day after my birthday and I love her!

Today I'm gonna...go look at Subarus with my roommate. I'm so excited! Their pearl white paint color is just gorgeous. I think that's what I want. My rooommate has a WRX and loves it. The AWD is going to be superb for Colorado winter driving.

I'm preparing myself for maybe doing that at the New Pornographers show I'm going to soon, but that's because the Gentleman Caller has never heard them before and seems likely to get the vapors.

In thread-normal terms: yesterday, I bought tickets to see the New Pornographers with the Gentleman Caller in Boston towards the end of the month.

I tried to get tickets to the NP show here, but it was sold out before it was "announced." Apparently all the tickets were taken by people who had pre-ordered Challengers back in like June. I did manage to get Weakerthans tickets, though.

A lot of the lesbians around here drive Subarus. I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.

Also, "A" on my pacific northwest history midterm. Boy, was I sweating that one.

Nice work.  I got back my last test today from midterm times, 2 90's exactly and one Excellent !! A, by a teacher who doesn't use numbers.

However, I am really fretting this semester and just checked out nine books from the library to start work on this 30 page paper for my capstone course over the Tito-Stalin split, with a 1250-1500 word paper due on Monday detailing what we have learned about our subject so far plus a five to ten minute speech.  This two weeks after our first paper (Excellent !! A) with the major event of my college's year (OU-Texas) the week between.  The part that makes this bad is that Missouri and OU play this week and, while I won't be going, I will be getting drunk and then there is a Ghostface Killah free show on campus Sunday.

Then again, I think I may be freaking out because I need ten hours to graduate and am taking 12 and don't want to screw up and cost myself another semester.  I have already talked with my parents and they are helping me move to San Francisco in January, were I already know 2 people that I can crash with.

Anyhow, today I went to class from 2:30 to 9:30 and then the library until 10:30 and now I am missing my neighbors concert and studying until I pass out, then studying all day until the Red Sox play tomorrow.

Basically your workload kicks my workload's ass. I don't think I'd be getting A's with your workload.

yeah, wow. I basically just go to lectures and then do a shit-ton of reading. I realized the other day that... i don't think I'm going to have any final exams this semester. Just 2 final papers.

Yeah, I have written plenty of 30 page papers.  It just kind of comes with being a history major.  The thing that gets me though is the stuff you have to turn in to show you are working on it.  AHH, it is my fuck*ng capstone, I am going to do the paper.  Can't I just wait until the last month of school when you give us the month off to start?

Also, I may be exagerating, but it is because I am freaking out about screwing up and having to live in Oklahoma another couple months.  I got a lot of stuff to do and shit to see, I don't want to be stuck here because I flunked a course I don't even need.  I haven't ever failed a course except for one I just did absolutely nothing in (I hated the professor real bad), which is what makes this fear so irrational.  I can't wait to get a job and have money (more than now at least) and have real free time, instead of this making free time but always having work sitting over your head or something that you could probably be doing bullshit.

You know, many jobs are also exactly like that, so if that's a priority, job-search carefully.

I went from a career where I always had work hanging over my head, to one where when I left work I really left work and had real free time, and now seem to be transitioning back to one where I always have work hanging over my head.

In the 'work hanging over' ones I could make my own schedule to a great extent - but work was never over. In the other I had to be there forty hours a week whether I liked it or not but when I wasn't there, there was no work to do. So there was a tradeoff. There's advantages and disadvantages to both, I think.

It is a common stereotype that lesbians drive Subaru Outback wagons, but I don't care if folks think I'm a friend of Dorothy.  It also bears mentioning that I'm going to get a Subaru sedan, not a wagon and god not a hatchback. This is for purely aesthetic purposes. It might be handy to have a wagon, but I don't like how they look.

ALSO: How the FUCK did I miss that Marmite made a special Guinness edition for St. Patrick's Day 2007?? HOW???? DAMN my cash flow problem! I am dying to get some of that. Two jars, one to eat and one to keep for posterity.

man, damn, I love Hatchbacks. and Station Wagons (the sexier modern ones.)
also, the only person I had ever heard say
Quote
friend of Dorothy
until now was my mom.

also, I realize that liking those cars destines me to be a boring dad whose kids will not want to borrow my car for dates, will want to grow up to be everything I'm not, etc... I have accepted this.

Heh! Friend of Dorothy refers more to gay fellas than lesbian women, but whatevs. I didn't realize your mom used that euphemism! Heh, how funny.

Anybody who thinks Subaru is not sexy... I defy you to sit in the driver's seat of a brand-spankin-new WRX/STI and tell me that.

There is a gay-kitsch store in West Hollywood called "Dorothy's Surrender".

I'm a big fan of actually-clever names for such things, you know?

No points for calling it "The Manhole" or whatever but "Dorothy's Surrender"?

You get points.
