@achewood I am composing a tone poem about eagles, lawnmowers, and Ted Nugent. It is composed only of the sounds of those things.

The music stuff was a hybrid of riffs I heard from movie-type people, not me.

I ain't seen the movie or heard the soundtrack, it was just one of the funnier "good news/bad news" reviews I heard and... I kept hearing it over and over and over again... and in combination, they built up to a funny approach to the issue.

Everytime I hear that "oh teen angel, oh sit on the floo-or" whatever i-Pod commerical, I swear to God that it is Bjork singing and every time, someone corrects me and tells me what the band is and... I have a mental block against remembering what the band is.

It just... has to be Bjork. Only Bjork could make that song.

Anyway, I was more saying... do not worry about hating that woman in real life.

That woman only exists in movies written by bitter people.

By which I mean, only exists in movies.

EDIT:

V-Adore, I could see that movie being okay and just being made to look 10,000 times crazier than it actually is by the trailers and trying to sell it to a wider audience.

We live in a world where "Charlie Wilson's War" exists to celebrate the founding of the Taliban and... even though I'm told that the actual film deals with the irony of that... the trailers basically do not touch on it at all.

In the trailers, Tom Hanks is a hero for creating the Taliban, Julia Roberts wants him because he created the Taliban and Philip Seymour Hoffman wants to BE him because he created the Taliban.

I will accept that "Book of Secrets" could be entertaining in a popcorn kinda way and it was just that the trailers made it look like Michael Bay's phantom re-edit of "JFK".

That would be Feist. Although I thought it was Bjork at first too. Kinda hard to tell on that little iPod screen. There are iPod owners who probably think it's Bjork.

Aw dude, holidays are when you make 'em.  Don't let society dictate the details of when you should celebrate seasonal rites.  Substance over form!  Have Christmas whenever you're together with the ones you love.  Who cares if it is the 25th.  The idea is to give gifts and rage against the dang winter solstice.  It'll be fine if you do it on the 28th, or even the 30th or in January sometime.

In some ways yes, in some ways no. I don't really actually celebrate xmas, or thxgiving, and there are associated rants about that that I'm too tired to roll out right now. However, I get Halloween off in '08, and I'm really glad about that, because I haven't ever gone to a Halloween party with my wife, and they hold those on Halloween. I can't celebrate it on November 2nd. Not quite as fun. Can't ring in the new year the second week of January. I mean, you can, but your party might be sparsely attended. The celebrating when you have a chance thing, though . . . well, you don't have to tell me. I've spent half of the last 10 years separated from my family, so I've had to adjust my celebrations accordingly.

But man, characterizing all "indie rock" as trying to sound "like Joan Baez but with smaller balls..."
sometimes I think that I must have a different kind of ears than you have or something. I am not arguing about this shit in every thread ever, so, I guess this is all I will say.

This is the time of year when "best of 2007" lists start appearing like mushrooms after a spring rain.  So I went to Pitchfork and various music blogs to suss out what the young people of America are crushing on these days.  I downloaded about thirty selections that seemed to be common favorites.  And after listening to this stuff, I can safely state that not all indie rock these days sounds like balls-free Joan Baez.

Panda Bear, Pitchfork's BFF, sounds like the Mamas and the Papas stuck at the bottom of a grain silo.  They put the lotion in the basket or they get the hose.

LCD Soundsystem sounds like a young man on X trying to recreate a New Order album with an old Casio keyboard.

Battles sound like the Lollipop Guild with a bad hangover.

Animal Collective sound like someone banging a floor tom and yelping next to a Ms. Pac-Man machine.

Of Montreal are the soundtrack for a bunch of young guys having a circle jerk while using their free hands to smoke clove cigarettes.

M.I.A. sounds like...shit.

There were a few decent songs by Caribou, Iron & Wine and Okkervil River, but otherwise...what a basketload of dickless white-boy crap.  There were more energy, hooks and balls in a song by Avril Lavigne, for christ's sake, and even that was a complete rip-off of an old Rubinoos song!

You kids get the hell off my lawn!

So should I listen to that Modest penis CD with the blue cover and the line balloon I was given or is that shit too over?

[NOTE: I'll listen to it regardless]

It is worth a listen, but I have to say I didn't like it all that much.  It very middling.

i know I have said this exact sentiment like 7 times, but let me express the horror I felt that I had only heard a few (I think literally 2) of the "top 50 albums" of the year. Despite the fact that... I am the Music Director at a college radio station, and it is my job to handle the new CDs we get. oops.

As with most Modest penis, I quite liked three or four of the tracks and felt... eh... about the rest.

Which is good, for these days, but man I want an album I can listen to all the way through.

I don't i-Pod, y'see. I mp3 on my computer but I don't i-Pod.

I want an album all the way through, still.

You can listen to albums on an iPod, LFM.  That is one thing an iPod allows you to do, is listen to albums all the way through.

It pisses me off how often you have to remind people of that.  Guess what, I have like 70 albums in a space probably the volume of 2-3 cds.  And I listen to them in album form.  AGHH...

To what end?

Also, I am still pissed I didn't see that acoustic Tom Morello set on page 1.
