Play rugby @ UVA. First game of the season and our division three team is playing a division one team on their home pitch... well I hope no one dies. Then - an ocean of beer.

God bless a sport in which you can say "I hope no one dies" and kinda sorta mean it.

In a similar vein, today I'm taking my family to watch the San Jose Stealth indoor pro lacrosse team take on Chicago.  Afterwards, I'm kegging up the stout I brewed a few weeks ago.  So A-CAP and I have parallel paths today.

Spend the last night/day with my college friends and tell them goodbye.

Go home, take shower, go to bar with dad.

Get a mixdisc in the mail from Nabu!

And watch a DVD of Patton Oswalt. I'm not sure why I have this because I don't even know who he is. Did one of you recommend this? If the Technical Staff were here instead of in Oregon right now, he'd ask if one of my weird internet friends told me to watch it.

Anyway, whoever he is, he kind of reminded me of misterqueue with a couple dozen extra pounds added. Except mostly misterqueue was funnier.  Well, maybe it got funnier at the end, but maybe I was just really tired by then. But at the beginning there was a bit about those horrible bowls of stuff they sell at KFC, which is a stupid thing to tell jokes about, but he called them a failure pile in a sadness bowl, which is lovely. And come to think of it maybe something misterqueue would have said.

You see what I am reduced to when I am left alone and no one is posting? I hope you're all happy now.

...go to a Programming Council meeting where we talked about which shows on the radio are good, and which are bad. It was kind of life-affirming in some weird way that... a lot of people put a lot of effort into these radio shows that only 10 people will hear, and those people are their roommates that they asked to please listen.
of course, some people get on sounding like they're high off their asses, and play random songs in random genres while making inside jokes on-air with their friends. oh well.

now I am going to go to a free concert at St Louis University by De Novo Dahl, who I feel like I have heard before but I can't remember if I liked them.

Um, maybe some cute girls are going and that is why, maybe so.

My friend did something pretty dumb (swerved across lanes when she realized she was about to miss a turn) and we got hit by another car. This situation resolved itself in a way which was so simple as to be beautiful:
"oh my god, I am so sorry, that was completely my fault"
"it's OK, are you OK?"
"yes. is your car..."
"no, my car is fine. Is yours OK?"
"yes."
"*shakes her hand* well, I don't think we need to pursue this any further. y'all have a good night, now."

the concert was pretty bad, but the keyboard player from the headliner came up and started chatting my two friends up. He was so dorky that it was somewhere between hilarious and horrifying. After sitting at a table forever waiting for a good band to come on, we finally left. Overall, though, it was awesome, as those two girls are wonderful and we had a fun time.

Today, I'm gonna go see my friend in a play written and directed by a graduating senior as her senior thesis. Hopefully it will be good and enjoyable. Then, I am going to try to start outlining my ideas for a cognitive science paper. Um, as part of that, today i'm gonna realize that I have been a horrible student this semester, have taken something like 10 pages of notes total this whole month, and realize that it's all gonna bite me in the ass in the next 2 weeks.

I have to believe that the other driver had a lot more to hide than a stupid driving decision to let it go down like that. Smuggled pandas in the trunk. A time traveller on his way to murder a baby who will be a cruel world dictator in fifty years if it lives. Something like this.

...I have a story to tell.

Five years ago me and a friend were driving on the highway.  I was going to be getting a new car the next day, so I drove him by the place to show him the car, which was still a highway.  I was showing him the car while going 70, drifted right, where a parked car was saw just in time and went hard to the left.  It was raining a little bit so I was doing donuts on the highway til some dude hit me.  We went off the road safely and he pulled over a quarter of a mile down the road, cursed at me from there and went on.  I had already made the trade in and car deal, so this only ended up costing me like $500, which isn't that bad I think.

In other words, LFM is right.

Yeah, inev. Your friend was basically hit by the creepy guy from Superbad. Before he left, did he ask if you guys were on myspace?

This was probably the hardest lesson for me to learn in my tertiary education.

... Lose power for most of the day - still out. It was a windy day, so naturally 100k people lose power. But to avoid any excuses for work due tomorrow, the good administration here at HSC has generators in the library.

When we lost power in Hampton Roads during Hurricane Isabel, I worked a 16-hour shift the day after because the airport had generators. They didn't power much, though, so out on the ramp, we were surrounded by dark. The two most surreal moments I ever had at the airport were that night, and being out there on the morning of September 12, 2001, when the planes weren't coming or going, and the eerie silence was, to use an overplayed cliche, deafening.

I mean... it's not like we did any damage to his car. He was just a nice old man. I refuse to believe he had a cloned superkiller in his car.

today, I saw a play which was possibly the worst thing I have ever seen. I couldn't figure out whether it was some crazy thing that was being weird and unrealistic on purpose, or... just really badly done.

I looked up the playwright, Maria Irene Fornes, and apparently she is really well known and influential in avant-garde theater circles. And this means that... her characters just speak with unbearable amounts of repetition. I could not handle it.

Quote
I go to school. You don't go to school. You're dumb, and I'm smart. I'm smart, so I go to school. I go to school, and I learn. You don't know things. You don't learn. Because you're dumb.

There is some possibility, though, that it was just the way the director put it on that made this style entirely ineffective and obnoxious.
