...find out that my really good friend was the "anonymous student" mentioned on the front page of the student paper as having stood up in the middle of a speech Alberto Gonzales gave here (we paid him 30,000 fuck*ng DOLLARS), screamed that he was a perjurer and a criminal who should be in jail, and was asked to leave by security. Hm. I am not necessarily a big fan of this action.

tonight this girl is arriving who graduated last year and we are going to Steak and Shake at midnight, it is going to rule. Also I need to finish my first draft of a story for my fiction class.

This chapter of your biography will be titled: Side Show travels to Cuba, Gets Shit Done.
I vote for her next holiday to be in North Korea.  Someday she could run for Premier on the "Side Show Melanie: Agent of Regime Change" platform.

My problem with this kind of behaviour is that I appreciate the sentiment but think it could be done with a bit more class. If nothing else it stops your opinion from being dismissed out of hand as being some young lout and at best it draws a stark comparison with your antagonists, who are generally lacking in class.

yeah, um, that is what I don't get about it. This is a guy who... normally our interaction about something like this would be "god, what a clueless douchebag. Who the fuck thinks that is a good idea? How unproductive and pointless can you get?"

Don't get me wrong... I believe that everyone deserves respect, unless they do something to lose it. And this man (Mr. Gonzales) has definitely lost my respect through his actions. However, my friend just served as another way for the College Republicans and whoever else to say "ugh, those liberals are so ridiculous and uncouth and (whatever else)"

So...my college station wants dj's, real bad. I've always kind of liked the idea of being one, but I always think that my tastes in music are either too urbane or too metal-centric to justify having one.

Are you fuckin' kidding me?  The whole point of college radio is that you can play whatever the hell you want.

I once played Morrissey, Metallica, and the Innocence Mission on my show.  In that order.  BECAUSE I COULD

oh, best part, the same guy informed me today over lunch that he considers us officially In Competition over a certain young lady. Which... I think if she picked either of us, it would be me. But this is not saying much, I think the most likely outcome of this situation is that both of us end up being rejected, and are bonded by our bitterness. This is kind of a ridiculous situation for a number of reasons.

I told a friend, and she said "yeah, you're right. There's no way she'd date either of you." Ouch.

in other news, we are making PNP Major t-shirts, and the current frontrunner seems to be this design

The problem is that... y'know... sometimes A Thing can be a true thing but public discourse is so tightly structured that the only way to get to say A Thing is in a completely insane way.

I mean, Alberto Gonzalez IS a criminal and should be doing hard time.

But the whole deal is rigged against any momentum toward that happening and so... y'know...

We have no mouths yet we must scream. Public discourse is kind of a hossshit idea when GE and Rupert Murdoch own the apparatus to define what is and is not public discourse. Occasionally, madness is the only answer because it is literally the only answer.

well. I mean. there was a "Q&A" part, but they didn't let people ask questions-- they had to write them down on notecards, which were then read by the president of the College Republicans.

There was also a debacle where... the College Democrats planned a protest, and then he offered to have a meeting with them to talk, and they turned him down to have the protest instead. Which... again, it's not like having a discussion with him would have solved anything, but it at least would have avoided making them look like complete douchebags. I was really surprised he didn't say anything in his speech about the fact that they would rather have a protest which certainly didn't influence people one way or the other than actually talk to him about the issues.

Edit: I just found out that the College Democrats realized this made them look horrible, and actually did attend the meeting.

Also being widely discussed is the issue that there was a possibility of Barack Obama speaking on campus right before super tuesday, and some committee wouldn't let it happen. Lame. Presidential candidate? No, that's too political, we can't "take sides" by letting him speak on campus. Guy who probably 90% of the campus hates, who has hurt our image both at home and abroad, who continues to condone one of the few behaviors I will un-reservedly call Unamerican? Oh, sure, come right in! Here's $30,000!

Right now I am reading the story this one pretty quiet kid in my class wrote, where the second paragraph is describing how fantastic his lover's dick is. I automatically love this story.
actually, yeah. the whole thing is about how much he loves cockes. The only problem is that I'm going to have trouble understanding it as anything but autobiographical.

. . . have absolutely no voice. My throat has basically decided all I'm allowed to do is whisper. It is such like one of those dreams where you try to yell and nothing comes out. The result is that I can no longer wait-for-my-turn-to-talk-as-opposed-to-listening when around friends.

...learn that, yes, I wanted to "Collate" the 150 pages I just printed out. The more you learn!

At least I am pretty sure my story has at least a granule of merit.

Also think it would be cool if Dan's story literally involved a granule of merit, as a McGuffin if nothing else.

Damn I'm glad I don't get winter here. It sounds downright unpleasant.

Wombat, my advice is to eat the pugs to build up the weight you'd need for hibernating.
