Today I'm gonna try really hard not to get my brand spankin' new copy of Guitar Hero out of the closet (where we hid it from my son) and wail on it all day long.

Things that are awesome: When a child is still of an age that putting something in a closet (i.e. a place where things are kept) is sufficient to hide it.

"A Place Where Things are Kept" is going to be my emo band's first album.

today, I read an article that pointed out that men yelling "iron my shirts!" at Hilary Clinton is roughly equivalent to if men had yelled "Shine my Shoes!" at Barack. Which... I am pretty resolved I am never making "get back in the kitchen" type jokes again, I had never thought about it like that. I believe strongly that people can joke about whatever they want, and I get really mad when I am told that I "can't" joke about a certain topic, but I am deciding today not to make jokes like that any more.

Today has been consumed with reading Cat's Cradle and running errands for my mom. I feel kind of productive.

...put my affairs in order to start a full time job next week.

It's just for three months. So they say. This is what they said about my last two zoo jobs, which lasted nine and six months.

Naw, they'd already given away the bourbon, vodka, tequila, rum and whiskey. It was down to Coors Light or some wine squeezed through a farm girls gooey toes the day before.
Did they include a picture of the girl?

get hired at a summer camp.

all summer. 1 day off per 2 or 3 week session. working all day every day. 12 year old boys. long hikes. no internet, no computer, no phone, no CDs. i will wake up at 7 every day, take a cold/lukewarm shower, eat cruddy cafeteria food, and then go on long hikes and teach kids about Nature in a gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous area of the NC mountains. hell of Acoustic Guitar time. Hell of working with a bunch of hippies.

I was kind of hoping that they wouldn't get back to me until I had heard from the radio station I am trying to apply for an internship at. But my contact there was being all foot-draggy about telling me who I needed to talk to... I was about to just write an email to another person I know who works there today. But now they said I need to tell them yes or no within a week, and I don't have any other options lined up.

I just worry that... if I don't like it, it will be the worst thing ever, all summer.

on the other hand, if it is good, it will be SO GOOD. No girls to obsess about (although I'm sure I will start finding the hippy-girl-counselors pretty cute after a few weeks), getting in shape in a painful way, sleeping incredibly hard every night, teaching little kids the guitar, etc.

I did that for a summer, and yes, it was the worst thing ever. I mean i love me some hiking and camping, but it got old. Ironically I too will be in NC, on the beach, in a house rented by the rugby team. If they're lucky it might still have a foundation when were done.

Today I'm gonna give verbal consent to have my son enrolled in his new school, starting next Tuesday.

We've been in meetings about this over the last two months, but the rundown is:

- six hours a day, five days a week -- we will probably start him half-days and work up to the full six once he's adjusted to his surroundings.

- he'll be on a year-round calendar, which is great for us.  Year-round schools are on nine weeks, off three; they are almost to the end of his track's semester, so they'll track out after he's been there just 2 weeks, which works out actually because my brother's family will be in town that week and he'd be out the following week for spring break anyway.  And long-term, I think a 9/3 schedule will help keep him from getting burned out and give us a chance to do fun stuff like we do when he's home.  Museums and such.  As he gets older, there will be track-out camps he can attend for extra fun.

- The class is capped at eight, and there is a lead teacher and two assistants.  So three adults for eight kids.  They will all be kids with special needs but not all of them will necessarily be autistic.  This is a good thing in some ways and a bad thing in others.  But it's probably the best thing for him right now, and we have the chance to re-evaluate his needs and possibly move him to a more integrated setting at the beginning of next academic year.

All in all, good stuff.  Very exciting.

Now both kids are asleep, and I'm going to go try to pry the Guitar Hero controller from Pedro's fingers so I can play me some Cream.

...get to bed on time to go in to work early, but wake up promptly four hours later.

That was three hours ago.  I have to be up in two hours.  Not enough time to do sleep meds, plus I've already got Nyquil in me and fat lot of good that's doing.

I made the mistake of overhearing something that could be very good for me career-wise and now I'm all jittery.

Fie.  Fie!
