well, the overall thing of this school is like... kids who got rejected from Harvard and Columbia and Stanford and those kind of places. These are kids who have always been working hard but never quite been good enough to be #1. And maybe if I don't smoke pot, maybe if I don't have sex, maybe that'll give me the edge. I can't afford to slip up.

When we threw a party this year where like... we actually put in effort to make it fun, with a dance floor and plenty of alcohol, people acted like we were just like THE PARTY GUYS who are just SO FUN and no one could ever do what we had done. We turned out the lights, played dance music, and didn't have a beer pong table, and it blew a lot of minds.
I've actually been to parties where people said that they wished it was more like our party, as if we had done something magic by like... spending an hour moving our couches around and setting up speakers.

Alternate explanations:
"all of the guys at this school are fuckin' pussies, man"
"none of the girls at this school put out, dude"
"everyone at this school is just boring."
and
"man, whatever, all the girls at this school are ugly anyway."

See, I went to a school full of basically rich kids who didn't care anything about learning, were basically going so that they could debauch themselves outside of Mumsy and Dadsy's eyes but were entirely too stupid to get bought into an Ivy League school, no matter what the hell their folks tried to pay. Like as if their parents could fly them to Syracuse and with the plane tickets sort of infer to the grandparents that they were sent to Cornell and, like, that's just the nearest airport. They took rented limos from there, you understand.

So I can't process what you're talking about, essentially.

Today somebody started a Twitter account as Vlad. I'm following him for now, but I'll have to see how much Vlad-speak I can take.

I might have to sign up for twitter soon if all these people I like hearing from keep using it. Weird how these systems intended for person to person communication really start to get big as content delivery platforms.

Today I told a policeman about my bicycle and he said he will take those details and call a number. The person at that number will give him a number that he will call me with. This is the number I can give to my insurance agency so they can decide whether or not they feel like providing the service I pay them for (alternatively: whether or not I think I am covered in the way I think I am). The sum value of people's time that dealing with this is taking up is worth more than my bike is the point I am making.

On the other hand I just found out about the 'facebook blackout' wherein people who do not like recent changes to facebook are going to stop using it for one whole day and then go back to using it and complaining. They are organising this even using facebook's "event" function of course. That made me feel less stupid.

hm.

two exams today. have not studied enough at all. somehow managed to lose my scarf, hat, gloves, boots, and thickest sweater in the last week. it is 16 degrees and snowing.

Sometimes I wish exams were at the beginning of the semester. The end of the semester is for being sleepy, fighting with roommates, getting sick, being a lazy sack of shit, etc.

There is this song that I really love on the Anthology of American Folk Music about a lazy farmer boy. it is a very good song that all men should hear. I cannot find it online right now. soon.

good job!

It was actually not as cold as I imagined it would be, because the wind was not so bad. Mostly just my nose got very cold. I am still trying to figure out whether I have gotten more used to the cold, or whether freshman year really was a hell of a lot colder than the years since.
Probably a combination.

I just realized that today, though, marks the first time that it has snowed and I haven't been excited about it. Just "oh, it snowed."

...start to be sorry I volunteered to make a website for my friend who has a book coming out next month.

I thought the worst part was that there is one tiny thing that is driving me crazy that I can't fix without hacking the php stylesheet, and that is apparently the one computer language that the Technical Staff does not know and has no interest in, so I am carefully, terrifiedly, trying to comment out tiny bits of it, sure that somehow I am going to destroy the whole thing.

No, the worst part is that my friend is now forwarding idiotic emails from her publisher about what THEY think we should do with the website. Note that while they tell all their authors to have websites, they don't host them, or help set them up, or answer her earlier emails asking what they thought she should put it in. No, they wait till it's nearly done and then have idiotic comments like "the main page needs a Buy link" when the main page already has a buy link.

If anyone is wondering why the publishing industry is falling apart, I can tell you for sure that they have no one to blame but themselves.

I dunno, in this case I am basically the one-eyed woman in the kingdom of the blind. I should advertise "will make websites for writers who know even less about computers than I do."  I just wish that my seeing-eye dog knew php.

Seriously, though, speaking of blind, the guy didn't see the buy link or the word "amazon" even after she told him where it was. I decided not to redesign it because what is the point of making it easier for people who can't read to buy a book? They are just not the target audience, you know?

Thank you, but... I just did it! I did it! I am the one eyed queen of the kingdom of computer-blind writer-women!

But I may take you up on that offer some other time.

Now if we could only fix the publishing industry...

Totally got 10 points back so that I got a C+ instead of a D+ on my logic exam.
Screw you, logic TA who is German or something and took off 10 points for no reason.

yeah, totally.

I mean, I would have fixed this a while ago if the professor handed back our exams. But he has decided that he does not like to do that.
Also he is a bad teacher, and a jerk.
He likes to arrange things in the least convenient way possible. So, for example, our weekly quizzes were held on Wednesdays at 7 PM in a dorm far away from where I live. Not, you know, in class. And then, there was no way to see your quiz score or find out how you did until the next Wednesday, immediately before the next quiz.
