the equation which transforms amount of effort into grades has some variable in it which I do not understand.

Actually, based on the graph of my college GPA over the last 3 years, the relationship is inverse. wtf.

Maybe because you don't need to put in as much effort for the easier subjects, you only feel like you are working hard when the subject is difficult?

this girl I have been told many times I would really like wrote an article online about how great Ayn Rand is.
Where she doesn't really make any arguments or points, she just says Ayn Rand is awesome and I like her a lot.

Apparently it is considered poor form to write such as "this article doesn't say anything other than "I love Ayn Rand." What is your point?" I was informed that I am "being an asshole."

Oh well. What scares me is that she has a job working for a well-regarded author, which makes me think that in some world she is considered "good."

Today, I am realizing that my parents are spending colossal amounts of money on me (beyond the normal holy fuck*ng shit amount they are paying in tuition) and they seem to plan to keep on doing it. They do not believe me when I say I don't want anything for my birthday. Or rather, "for my birthday I want to go to Paris for a month. Thank you for my birthday present."
I am running out of ways to say "I am very grateful for the many things you are doing for me financially right now, it is more than enough."
I just keep getting "but seriously, what do you want for your birthday?"

My mom was taken aback the other day when she asked me what I plan to do when I graduate. "Take the first job that pays" was apparently not what she was expecting.

Maybe you're right, but I do not think of myself as a kid with some drive or whatever. And based on the types of things they still have to yell at me about, I don't know if they do either.
We'll see.



Today, I'm gonna wake up to the news that I am headed Boston-wards for a funeral.

This is the daughter of great-grandmother who had the "YOUR HUSBAND IS DEAD" experience. She did the best she could with a life with experiences like that in it.

oh, that is not what the yelling is ever about.

I am just unhappy with the prospect of ending up like all of my friends who graduated a year ago-- unemployed, living at home because they're holding out for a "cool" job. I can't handle sitting around doing nothing.

My SO and I sometimes discuss this. She can't imagine working for a company that she doesn't love whereas I can't imagine a job as anything more than a way of getting a paycheck.
