but kind of feeling stupid for making my mom and spouse stay up all night for something that would have resolved on its own if I'd been tough enough to handle the pain.

No, bad JL, bad abdo pain can turn to deadly abdo pain way to fast, and we like you.

I've never heard the word eavestroughing but I could work it out.
It's very rare that people would talk about 'eaves' over here, but I think it's a fairly common term in the US/Canada?

I think we've established that it's common in Canada, but not US.

yeah, what a bunch of snobs.

My eavestroughs have been hella leaking lately due to the 5 freaking inches of rain we got over the weekend.

I always say gutter but I'm aware of eavestrough. Plus they use the word in an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force during an episode about those covers that keep leaves out of your gutters.

Turns out I was pretty dehydrated and full of gas. I got two bags of IV fluids, some anti-nausea meds, and something for the pain. Feeling semi-normal today; still taking it easy, but kind of feeling stupid for making my mom and spouse stay up all night for something that would have resolved on its own if I'd been tough enough to handle the pain.

Abdominal pain can certainly be a symptom of something else, but don't blithely disregard dehydration. It can cause 99 problems, especially if you are in a dry climate. It's one of the main health concerns where I work, and people have become pretty fucked up due to it - enough so that they've had to take an $18k Life-Flight home.

Saturday, I came home: gorgeous. Sunny and hot. Today: monsoon. I don't think Pedro is going to be up on the scaffolding pulling brick today.

I am in the opposite of a dry climate.

Also, with regard to Doc's comment, the main reason I went to the hospital is because I was afraid I was going to die. A close friend lost his dad because of the "it's just stomach flu" fallacy -- turned out to be polyps, and when his colon ruptured he was dead before he hit the floor. So with that firmly in my mind, I decided it would be stupider to *not* go.

Still doesn't spare me the mild embarrassment of having a doctor tell me, "Your bowels are full of air; would you like some morphine for that?"

When Pedro called my in-laws to tell them how I was doing, he emphasized the dehydration. Only you guys and my parents know the truth.

I hope that didn't seem like I was giving you a hard time - I guess just from working where I work, I have learned that dehydration can be extremely bad, even if people think it isn't a big deal. Of course, where I work is technically a desert although sometimes we have 20+ feet of accumulated snow on the ground.

at dinner my mom started telling stories about our ancestors in Chile. There was a hell of a lot of Murder going on. My ancestors include some fucked up racist imperialists.

This article from the Onion refers to my neighborhood. I feel like they are way off in their characterization... when I see those people playing Kick Ball, they are all weird athletic yuppies.

Dear Everybody I Know:

Yes, I am still sick. Yes, I have already been to the doctor. No, I don't think going again will help. Please stop suggesting it.

Thanks,
 -- JayEll

P.S. The doctor specifically told me not to take Immodium, but I'm sure McNeil Pharmaceuticals appreciates the thought.
